A week later, the Tour stopped in Houston Texas just before Thanksgiving. Evie looked forward to it because she planned to spend it with her mom and brother who she didn’t got to see that regularly anymore. But before this event, there was another one planned for the first night of their stay in the city. Taylor and her Team organized a “Friendsgiving” for all artists and the crew and had spoken about it non-stop in the past few days. Taylor loved parties and especially hosting them. Evie was glad that there was no weird vibe when they were together and managed to keep her feelings hidden even though it was hard. It was hard to sit next to her to talk but not touch her. And it was hard to sing love songs on stage when they were now secretly directed at her. She tried her best to ignore it because she knew she couldn’t force herself to stop liking Taylor from one day to the other even though she wished she could. Ignoring Taylor was still no option, she loved to be around her and Taylor kept talking to her on a daily basis. Even if the situation was not ideal, Evie looked forward to the “Friendsgiving” event. Taylors dancers, her singers and the whole crew had a special place in her heart and she got especially close with Kam and Jan, the dancers. They showed her some of the dance moms and Evie wished she could sneak in to one of Taylors sets because she loved all of the choreographies.
The festive dinner took place in the hotel’s ballroom which was already a fancy place but looked even more stunning with the thanksgiving decoration. She didn’t know who exactly was in charge for that part of the event but that person had done a great job. She was still looking around excitedly, when Kam came up to her. “Hi gorgeous. Love your dress!”, he greeted her. Evie wore a black pencil dress with an open back which she had bought a year before but never got to wear. Everyone looked stunning that day and you could tell most of them were excited wo wear something other than sports wear or show costumes. “Everyone looks marvelous”, Evie said to Kam and was especially impressed by his bejeweled jumpsuit. “Speaking of marvelous.”. Kam had to say no more, Evie knew that Taylor had just entered the room. She wore a golden one-shoulder mini-dress which looked both elegant and sexy and had the power to take Evie’s breath away. Luckily, everyone around her seemed to be distracted and no one noticed her moment of weakness.
The evening was a success and turned into an even more marvelous night. The food was outstandingly delicious, the music great and everyone enjoyed the evening off from work. After a while, people even started to sing karaoke, when they had found the karaoke-machine on the little stage in the corner of the ballroom. Evie herself danced along with her new friends and was able to forget her worries for some time. It was harder to do so when Taylor was around but she still managed to spend time with her. Taylor and her got themselves new drinks and leaned against the wall to observe the scene. “I love having fun but I love it even more to see others having fun.” , Taylor started saying with a bright smile on her face. “I guess that’s why I love touring. I love to perform but seeing the fans having fun is priceless.”. “And it takes a lot of talent to be able to put on a show that people enjoy so much. I admire you for that Taylor.”, Evie said and she was once again reminded of how lucky she was to be able to be part of Taylor’s tour, something she had put a lot of effort into creating. “Aw…Don’t make me blush right here…”, Taylor replied and touched Evie’s hand for a fleeting moment. It was just a second but that was enough to make Evie fall for her even more. How was she able to not touch her as well? Luckily, Jan interrupted their moment oblivious to what was going on between Taylor and Evie. “I want YOU to sing a Karaoke song with me!”, he confronted Taylor and pointed towards the little stage in the right corner of the room and the karaoke-machine that people already had their fun with. “Oh well…only because you jumped in during the last show.”, Taylor replied while she threw her hands in the air to show her defeat. Evie followed them to the stage as she was quite intrigued in Jan’s singing skills was always down for fun. He had already chosen a song and forced Taylor to perform “Defying Gravity” from Wicked the musical which didn’t bother Taylor that much because everyone knew she liked musicals. And she could sing musicals. She sang her duet effortlessly with Jan as if she had prepared in advance and Jan surprised everyone with his decent singing skills. Everyone’s eyes were on them as they hit all the high-notes and seemed to have a really good time together. “Now that was fun!”, Taylor exclaimed once they were done singing. Jan hugged her and took a exaggerated bow which was typically him and made everyone around them laugh. „Now you guys should also sing something!”, he suddenly said and pointed towards Evie and Taylor. „You talk about secretly collaborating but we don’t even know how you sound together.”. Evie had no other choice than to agree considering the fact that everyone around her seemed to like that idea and cheered. Evie at least wanted to pick the song herself but wasn’t able to because the next song started playing on shuffle. The song was „What I’ve been looking for” from High School The Musical and Evie was lucky that is was the fastened up version and not the ballad as she was definitely not ready for that. Taylor and Evie quickly decided who got to sing which part and started performing. After the first few lines, Evie realised how well the lyrics matched her current feelings towards Taylor but she tried to overplay it and enjoyed the fun they had.
It’s hard to believe
That I couldn’t see
You were always there beside me
Thought I was alone
With no one to hold
But you were always right beside me
This feeling’s like no other
I want you to know
I’ve never had someone
That knows me like you do
The way you do
I’ve never had someone
As good for me as you
No one like you
So lonely before I finally found
What I’ve been looking for
…
The last sounds of the song faded out and their little audience began to clap and cheer. Evie had to admit, their voices sounded great together and she enjoyed performing with someone else instead of singing alone. Taylor and her beamed at each other, exchanged a short hug and Taylor announced that the had to take a little break from singing now. Evie got persuaded to to sing another song with one of Taylor’s backup singers and she decided that it was best to have some distance to Taylor after that love song.
That party was slowly coming to and end, people started leaving while there were still some people, mostly Taylor’s dancers, who didn’t seem to be tired yet. Evie wished that she had their energy. „Can I just say something before I go?”, Kam said when I suddenly came up to her while she sat on of the empty tables to quickly text a friend in NYC who had asked her how she was doing while on tour. „Go on.”. „Well, I don’t know what’s going on between you and Taylor and it’s actually none of my business but you two seem a *little* suspicious. You both couldn’t stop smiling and looking at each other on stage and Taylor is constantly looking for you and keeps drifting off when you talk to her. I know I shouldn’t interfere but I just wanted to let you know that either both you are crushing on each other or it’s one of you and you maybe don’t even seem to know it yourself…”. That was a lot. And that was a lot of truth, at least about Evie’s side of the story. Evie had tried her best to don’t show her feeling towards Taylor, played it off and tried to hang out with other more. But you couldn’t play with Kam. He was good at sensing weird vibes in a room and his gay radar was stronger than anyone else’s. But Evie knew that she wasn’t in the position to tell Kam about what had happened between her and Taylor as much as she actually wanted to confide in someone who knew both of them and who could show some understanding. She didn’t want to tell Kam something that Taylor didn’t agree too, that was not her right. „I…I guess I have to speak to Taylor about that.”, she told him while she fidgeted with her phone. „I think you should.”. Kam laid his arm around her shoulder and gave her an assuring smile.
