Taylor
It was already the next day but Taylor still had to think about her evening with Evie. It was all worth the hungover. Taylor had not expected them to sleep with each other that night but it had felt right in the moment and she had not wanted to stop at any second to say “let’s wait for another day”. She had wanted Evie more than ever. Taylor caught herself grinning whenever she thought about them both intertwined in her hotel bed and she’d go straight to Evie’s hotel room if she had the chance. But she had a meeting with her publicist Tree, who had also became a very close friend. She needed to talk to her about the PR-stunt with Travis which got a little out of hand. Travis seemed to actually like Taylor and kept texting her every now and then. He had also asked for another date before the holiday but Taylor had told him that she had been busy. He was funny and he seemed more interesting that a lot of guys she had dated in the past but she just wasn’t interested. Her eyes were set on someone else and she had no time to pretend a love story with someone else. That wasn’t fair to Evie and also not to him.
“So…I thought about the thing with Travis and I need you to talk to his publicist and see if we can cancel this all. I don’t feel comfortable with this anymore.”, Taylor told Tree in her provisionally office which also happened to be her hotel room. “What do you mean? You were in for this deal and now you just want to cancel it out of nowhere? Taylor, that’s not how it works.”. Tree looked at her with determination and Taylor couldn’t even look her in the eyes for much longer. She suddenly felt like a child who got told off. “I know and I swear this will never happen again but it’s really important to me that we cancel it. I don’t want to go on these public dates, it just doesn’t feel right to me. I can’t be authentic this way.”. That was true but there was a lot more to it that Taylor kept from Tree. “And what about the Super Bowl?” “I don’t know if it’s that important. I mean, the Tour goes so well, I don’t think we need more publicity. Plus, maybe they still let me perform if they think we stopped dating because they want the drama of an ex performing…” Taylor really tried to get out of this this mess and even noticed herself that she sounded a bit desperate. “Do you really want to deal with the “ex” thing right now while everything else runs so well? People saying you have too many exes and overshadowing all your other success?”. Tree had a point. It annoyed her that the press was too interested in her dating life and literally counted all her exes to make her seem like the villain. “I don’t but I also don’t want to run around and pretend something that’s not true. It’s also not fair to Travis he…he does like me!”, Taylor suddenly said and you could hear her panic a little. “It wouldn’t have to be a PR-thing if you also liked him too…”, Tree mocked her but this wasn’t the moment for that. “No I’m serious I want this all to end by the end of the week!”. “Taylor, I don’t know why you’re so upset right now. I mean okay, I can contact his publicist but don’t act like I pushed you into this. You happily agreed…I have the feeling there is some other reason you want this to end.”. Shit, Taylor thought. This was not going well and she was in a pretty critical situation now. She wasn’t good at spontaneously lying. “No…I just…I want to be authentic you know…the fans deserve it as well.” This was no lie but why did it sound so much like one? “You’re seeing someone else and want to blow this off.”. And there was there truth. “Taylor you can’t lie to me, I know you for so many years now.”, she continued saying when Taylor didn’t answer. Taylor took a deep breath in order to save some more time until she had to say something. But she couldn’t hold herself together. “Yeah I like someone and this stunt has actually affected it negatively in the beginning. I don’t want her –”, Taylor abruptly stopped. Maybe that one sentence could have been enough. “Her? Sorry that I am a bit confused here…”, Tree said with an expectant look on her face as she waited for Taylor to go on. But Taylor wanted to do anything but that. “Yeah…I have feelings for a woman and it probably surprised me as much as it surprises you right now. I think it took me some time to find the one person to realize that side of me…”. A small smile formed on Tree’s lips when she saw the little spark in Taylor’s eyes when she referred to Evie. “But where did you meet? You’re constantly on the run, how do you even find the energy to date?”, she asked with a mocking undertone to her voice. “I…you meet people everyday…you know. It just happens!”. Taylor talked nonsense and she couldn’t even listen to herself talk. How was she able to get out of this moment. She had already said too much and couldn’t leave Tree with all the unanswered questions. And Tree was still her friend, besides her job. “You never make such a big deal out of things. Who is it? Do I not like her or what?”. “You do like her and you know her…”, Taylor hinted, unsure if she actually wanted to drop Evie’s name. But she didn’t have to because Tree found out herself.
“You like this Evie girl, right?”. Taylor nodded. “I do like her, she seems fun to be around. So…you’re officially dating?”. “No. I mean we’ve just told each other about our feelings and everything’s still fresh. But it just didn’t feel right to publicly go out with another guy at the same time. Especially not during a time where I kind of need to figure out my own sexuality…”. Tree listened to her attentively but Taylor could see how her mind was actively working. “Do you think you would make it publicly with her?”, she asked Taylor. Taylor didn’t know the answer. She only knew that she liked Evie and that she wanted to spend all day with her but she didn’t know if they will really become a couple. Ideally, it would happen but you couldn’t be sure and Taylor didn’t want to plan too much. “I don’t know yet…I have not considered it yet.”. “I know you aren’t naive but I just want you to know that it would probably arouse a lot of attention, and not only positively. You see how the tabloids write about you are you’re dating life and you can be sure that they would use it to write something like “After dating all men within her reach, Taylor needs to switch to women.” or they say that you only do it for attention and accuse you of queer-bating…”. Tree was fully in her professional mode, trying to warn Taylor but all it did was freak her out. “Could you please stop for now? I know how cruel the media is…besides that, Evie and I are just getting to know each other on this kind of level and we don’t need to discuss anything like that for now.”. Taylor looked at Tree with a concerned look on her face which let her switch back into being her friend to comfort her. “Yeah sorry. Take your time Taylor.”, she answered and padded her back for a moment.
“I do Tree. Let me just stay in this little bubble for some more time.”
