The moment Boss Zhao looked up after he kept his phone, he heard that dine and dasher say in all seriousness, “Just kill the hostage.â€
The boss was amused, “That won’t do, I’m just a small business, I can’t afford to kill this particular hostage.â€
Sheng Wang looked up and let out a long sigh of “ah—â€, and sat down on the floor hugging his head.
He was never willing to go outdoors under the sun, his skin was a shade of pale comparable to Jiang Tian’s. The moment he even felt a trace of embarrassment it was especially obvious. The boss wanted to laugh even more when he saw the back of his neck reddened all the way to the tip of his ears, “Ay, is it really that bad?â€
Sheng Wang let out a sarcastic laugh, and said, muffled, “I have a thin skin.â€
Fortunately Crab did not hear that line coming out from him, or else he would spit at him.
When this handsome guy chooses to be thick skinned, he’s absolutely undefeated, when needed he could act unreasonable and shameless without even changing his face, “thin skinned†when applied on him was already an act of shamelessness in itself. Although the rate of his awkward moments these two days were really a little too high.
After much searching, it was still Jiang Tian’s fault.
That ten plus minutes felt like a century. Boss Zhao gave his shoe a kick, “You can stand up now, the person paying has arrived.â€
Sheng Wang immediately stood up the moment he heard.
He stuck his head out and peered, Jiang Tian was turning in from the path in ‘Garden of Conduct’. The glass door with the sensors opened with a ding-dong. Sheng Wang, leaning against the counter, had his eyes downcast and pretended to look dignified. The flush on his neck and ears had already long faded when he stood up, his pretense really did look legit.
“You sure are capable.†he heard Jiang Tian say.
Sheng Wang looked up at him, and gave a dry laugh, “I was in too much of a hurry when I left, didn’t expect to leave both my wallet and brains behind too.â€
He was a loyal purporter of the belief: ‘If I apologise quickly enough, nobody would bear to fight me’. Along that face of his which had an extreme ability to cause someone to lose their train of thoughts, it had never gone wrong for so many years.
Who would have thought that Jiang Tian was not receptive to that technique at all. After he listened to his sincere self mockery, Jiang Tian scathingly went, “I also didn’t expect to have to chauffeur someone around when they want to eat.â€
Sheng Wang: “……â€
He opened his mouth and wanted to retort right back, only to see Jiang Tian move past him, and scanned the QR code to pay at the counter. He was still wearing his school uniform, the sleeves were bunched quite high up, enhancing the length of both his arms and legs.
Boss Zhao asked him, “Want anything else?â€
He glanced at Sheng Wang.
Sheng Wang: “?â€
Jiang Tian was a little taller than Sheng Wang, one could hardly tell when they were both sitting in class. But as they stood like this in close distance, especially as his gaze swept downwards from the corner of his eyes, that few centimetres of difference became super obvious.
Jiang Tian looked like he was losing patience, “He’s asking you if you are taking anything at all.â€
Sheng Wang mused, slid to the fridge at the side, scooped out two bottles of water and placed it on the counter in deference, “Thank you.â€
Jiang Tian: “……â€
Xi Le convenience store was relatively far from the teaching block, it was a good ten minutes walk away. Jiang Tian took a look at the time, put his phone aside, and walked at a speed that was neither fast nor slow.
Sheng Wang did not realise what was going on at first, and also followed him back to Mingli Block calmly and unhurried.
As a result the moment they entered the classroom both the math teacher and them just stared at each other speechlessly.
The math teacher’s surname was Wu, he was that balding middle aged man who summoned Jiang Tian for a chat during night self study that time.
Fuzhong year two’s noon break was a one and a half hours in total——the first half was for food, the last half was for napping, the middle half all belonged to Old Wu. Every noon he would arrive on the dot to give out practice papers, specifically to practice the additional math question, and immediately collected once upon 30 minutes.
Old Wu eyed the wall clock on the wall at the back of the class, and asked Sheng Wang, “There’s still 15 minutes left, are you planning an insurrection or something?â€
“Fuck, I forgot,†Sheng Wang was the face of bewilderment, and said it unconsciously.
“I don’t know whether you forgot about the fuck, I only know that it’s probably too late for you,†Old Wu spoke with an accent, every line sounded like it was an unhurried one straight out of a play. He even used his index finger and tapped on Sheng Wang in the air, the combined visual and auditory effect was seriously quite the sight.
The whole class guffawed.
Sheng Wang carried the bottles with a hand, and sheltered his face with another. He scurried back to his seat, that bastard Jiang Tian remaining completely unhurried as he followed behind.
“You have to be doing this on purpose?†he turned to glare at the person the moment he sat down.
Jiang Tian, while still under his forceful look, used his pen to point above him.
Sheng Wang followed the direction of the pen tip. The minute hand of the wall clock moved two degrees, there was only 13 minutes left.
Fuck me.
Though Student Sheng could write quickly but sloppily, maths was not just copying the textbook after all. He was as busy as a bee, and ultimately managed to do only more than half of it.
The bell rang, Old Wu clapped and called for a stop, getting the last students to collect it to the front.
Jiang Tian stood in front of Sheng Wang while he held onto his own script, and waited for him for five seconds. He watched his deathbed struggle as he attempted to finish writing that last number in that question, and then ruthlessly whisked that shitty piece of paper away.
“You wait a bit,†Sheng Wang said, his face solemn.
Jiang Tian stopped in his steps, he thought that he had some legitimate issue. This human instead reached out with his claws and pawed at his script, his mouth muttering, “You really are vicious enough to sabotage me at all costs, you would let eight hundred of your own die in order to kill the enemy’s one thousand, I want to see exactly how many questions you can do in 13 minutes.â€
The result of that pawing was truly despairing. Jiang Tian, this screwed up person, actually finished it all.
“Are you using hacks?†Sheng Wang could not help but say.
Maybe it was that his expression was too lifeless or something, Jiang Tian let out a laugh as he held Gao Tianyang’s script. However, that laugh was so brief that it was too difficult to tell if that was a jeer.
Old Wu completed yet another mission of trashing the noobs, and walked away with the practice papers in satisfaction.
The remaining students kept their paper and stationery, swept away everything on their table, and all rested their heads to prepare to sleep. They already long adapted to this time division, almost to the point of it being biological. Some people started lightly snoring the moment they rested their heads.
Sheng Wang half turned and knocked on the table behind him, the sound as light as a paw scratch.
Jiang Tian was placing his pen pouch into the desk, when he heard that he lifted his gaze and asked lowly, “What again?â€
“Give me your WeChat,†Sheng Wang replied beneath his breath.
Jiang Tian: “?â€
“I’m paying you back,†Sheng Wang immediately explained. He paused for god knows what reason, and then added, “If not, your Alipay account will do too, pick one, quick.â€
Jiang Tian did not speak as he looked at his open palm, as if he was contemplating which one was more appropriate.
Waiting caused by any reason at all would all give the wrong impression that he was nervous. After Sheng Wang’s palm lay splayed open on the table for a while, he was uneasy for some ineffable reason. He took a look at the wall clock again, waggled his finger and urged, “Quick, I still want to sleep.â€
Jiang Tian brought out his pen again to write a string of numbers, and also stuck the post-it note onto his palm.
Sheng Wang ‘tsked’, and mumbled, “You stuck it on my hand.â€
He turned back and removed the post-it. That string of numbers was evidently a phone number, usable for both WeChat and Alipay.
Sheng Wang curled his lips. He lied down just like the other students, his forehead touching the table. His two hands instead fumbled with the phone inside the desk.
He hesitated between two icons, and chose to open WeChat and searched for that number.
The app immediately displayed the search results.
This person’s WeChat nickname was only a full stop, aloofness and perfunctoriness came leaping at him. It was clear that it was Jiang Tian himself. His profile picture however was not so distant, it was a cat looking down at people as it sprawled on top of the wall.
Sheng Wang raised his eyebrow, and tapped to add as a friend.
He waited for about two minutes, and did not receive the notification that the other person accepted. He could not help himself and looked back. That bastard was already resting his head on the table and asleep.
Jiang Tian’s sleeping position was constant, his right hand always moved behind his head, his slender fingers naturally crooked and rested on the back of his neck.
Most of the students were already asleep, the remaining were only half-conscious. The sound of breathing as well as light snores were not in sync, as they mixed in the low hum of the air condition, it was not completely silent at all, and yet it was more quiet than anything.
An environment like this was easy for people to daydream. Sheng Wang zoned out for quite a while as he looked at Jiang Tian’s finger. Suddenly, he found a scar at the back of his neck.
That should be a scar that was left from a long time ago, it was round, and the skin around the area was not particularly smooth either, as if he was burned by something. The dangling fingers happened to block that spot.
Sheng Wang was startled, and immediately withdrew his gaze.
He rested his forehead on the table again, and played with his phone with his head buried for a bit. Before he slept, he opened Alipay, keyed in Jiang Tian’s number, and transferred the money for lunch and the two bottles of water over.
He just transferred the money when the bottom of the desk behind him rang out with a bzz.
Sheng Wang: “……â€
He stiffly turned back, discovered that Jiang Tian did not wake up, and let out a breath he was holding. He whisked out a bottle from the two in the table, placed one next to Jiang Tian’s desk, and then softly and lightly rested on his table, cursing “stupid app†under his breath.
For some reason, for a good half of the day later on, his thoughts constantly drifted back to that burn scar on Jiang Tian, even though it certainly had nothing to do with him.
Only after he returned to lay down on that giant bed in his bedroom at night, did that image get temporarily chased away by another matter——
At this moment, he was clutching his phone, and attempting to play a game up till the last second before he had to sleep. His phone suddenly vibrated, resulting in his fingers to get a little numb.
The notification panel on top indicated that there was a new message in WeChat.
It was already two plus past midnight, which insomniac ghost sent a message to him? This did not match Crab’s sleeping hours either?
Sheng Wang opened his WeChat in confusion, and discovered that that message was not because someone messaged him, but rather someone accepted his friend request.
There was now another person at the top of his conversations, the interface displayed: “You and . are now friends, you may start chatting.â€
TO BE CONTINUED.
