Killua sat in the waiting room, perched lazily on a table as he waited for them to be called out for the stadium. Most of the class kind of avoided him. To be fair, he’d made no effort to really get along with anybody so they had no reason to approach him. Fine by me, I like the peace and quiet anyways. He watched the commotion in amusement as everyone fretted over the festival, like it was some sort of life changing event. Although, maybe to them it was. To Killua? It was just a game.

Killua heard the announcement for them to head off to the stadium, and Killua hopped off the table as he made his way out onto the field. They announced each class as they filed out onto the field, it was a lot of people. Why do they even make all of general studies compete? He noticed how a good majority of them didn’t really seem very happy with this turn of events. Surely it would be better to make it optional for the people who won’t be affected by the results. But then, would there even be enough people to make it so big? Killua watched in amusement as Bakugou was called up to the stage, originally he thought the dude would be a pain in the ass but he provided more entertainment than anything.

“I just wanna say, I’m gonna win.”

Killua snickered as everybody started booing and shouting at him, then his snicker turned into a full blown cackle. He’s being way too serious. People from other classes as well as his own were giving him odd looks, but Killua didn’t much care. “Not my fault you’re just stepping stones to my victory.” Bakugou declared, giving them a thumbs down. Doing so elicited more anger and booing from the crowd. “Good luck on that.” Killua said sarcastically to Bakugou, as he pushed his way through the crowd. The guy didn’t even look at him, he had this serious scowl on his face.

“Why aren’t you taking this seriously at all?”

Killua glanced to the classmate beside him, who happened to be Sero. “You do realize how big these games are right?” Killua shrugged, placing his hands behind his head. Midnight was announcing something but he paid no mind. “This is just a game to me really. You guys really need to chill out.” A look of disbelief went across Sero’s face. “Just a game? This is the sports festival! You only get three chances, and it’s your only opportunity to get scouted make it big.” Killua hummed, tilting his head in contemplation. “Eh, not interested. I work better on my own anyways.”

He walked right past the flabbergasted Sero, making his way over to where the other students were congregating. Killua heard people talking about an obstacle course. Ooh, fun. He stayed near the back of the throng. Killua could catch up with them easily enough after they’d already cleared out, he wasn’t trying to get himself in a mosh pit. The starting alarm blared, and everyone rushed forward as expected. Killua hovered at the back, along with a few other students. It would be so easy to trap everyone in your vicinity if you had a quirk that could effect a large area instantly.

Once again as expected, Ice filled the tunnel. It slicked the floors and covered the walls. Killua’s eyes narrowed. He knew how to walk on ice, but would it be different in this new place? Only one way to find out I guess. Killua started forward, winding through the frozen students. It was slow going, and he nearly slipped a few times. As he got out into the open, Killua decided to take a different approach. He slowly slid one foot forward, then shifted his weight onto it. Next he slid the other one forward, doing the same. Just like iceskating. Killua thought, as he picked up speed. He still didn’t worry about going too fast, he didn’t care how well he did as long as he passed and moved on to the next round.

As Killua was skating along, he spotted the purple haired guy from a few weeks ago. He was being propped up by several students. Killua decided to pull up right beside him, keeping pace. The guy was looking forward, not behind. Those guys look like they’re in a daze. Some sort of mind control quirk? “Long time no see!” The man’s head snapped around, giving him a startled look, then his surprise grew into disgruntlement. “Oh, it’s you again. Come to taunt me again?” Killua scoffed. “W-” As soon as he opened his mouth, Killua felt like fog was starting to envelop his mind He knew this feeling, wrapping around him like a suffocating mist.

On pure instinct, he quickly slammed on his Ren. Immediately, the sensation stopped and he let out a relieved sigh. Damn, that was close. He then turned to the guy with a snort. “Did you just try to mind control me?” he asked, incredibly amused. I mean it almost worked. “How did you…?” Killua huffed. “You know, if you worked on physical attributes instead of your quirk you’d go a lot more places in life.” He said dryly. The guy’s scowl deepened. “Easy for you class 1-A egomaniacs to say. With your flashy quirks-“

“Actually I’m quirkless.”

That sentence dropped like a bomb shell, everyone in his vicinity was staring at him now. And the purple haired dude was just gaping at Killua. “I didn’t get here because I got blessed with some flashy power. You people tend to rely on your quirks either as a crutch, or an excuse to not put in hard work. People underestimate just how much the human body is capable of, if you push it far enough.”
