Killua was humming, walking through the halls of the building. He was on his way to try to find Shota, maybe tease him a little bit about worrying too much. However his ears picked up a conversation that was happening nearby. Curious, Killua paused to listen. “If you would’ve used your fire, you would be in first place right now.” That’s Endeavor isn’t it? Killua activated Zetsu, then slowly peeked around the corner. Endeavor was standing over Todoroki, a disappointed expression on his face. Todoroki wasn’t even looking at him.
I really don’t like that guy’s vibe, reminds me of my own dad. That alone put Killua off, even if he disregarded how much of a douche the hero was. Endeavor kept talking. “How can you expect to surpass Allmight one day using only half of your quirk?” So that’s what this is about. “This is why I made you Shoto. I spent years training you for this, only for you to reject it.” Killua deactivated Zetsu, making his presence known with a deep sigh. Killua knew it was probably better to keep his mouth shut, but he didn’t really give a damn.
Todoroki craned his neck to look over his shoulder, eyes widening slightly in surprise. “You know, you don’t actually have to listen to him Todoroki.” Endeavor’s eyes narrowed through the blaze encompassing his face. “Who do you think you are to be telling my son what to do?” Killua stopped right beside Todoroki, standing firm. “It’s his life, not yours. Its not on him to live the life you wanted for yourself, but was never strong enough to achieve.” Endeavor’s fist clenched, as he said that, leaning down to get right in Killua’s face. “Watch what you say, boy.” Killua looked him dead in the eyes, not backing down in the slightest.
“You don’t scare me, old man.”
He’ll probably try to get me expelled for this or something. I’d like to see him try. Todoroki didn’t say a word, he just stood there and watched the interaction happen. There was an invisible struggle as the two stared each other down, waiting for the other to back off first. “He might be your son, but that doesn’t give you the right to force him down whatever path you so choose. It baffles me how a man like you even became a hero, with such a messed up way of thinking.” He spat.
Suddenly, Killua sensed a new presence in the room. “I have no idea what’s going on here, but it needs to stop. Now.” Endeavor finally broke eye contact to scowl at the new addition to the conversation. “Your student is being incredibly disrespectful, Allmight.” Killua paid no mind to Allmight or Endeavor, he looked right at Todoroki. “Let’s go Todoroki.” Todoroki nodded. “Yeah.” Then the two kept walking down the hallway, away from the two pros. There was silence for a solid minute before Todoroki spoke. “Did you really mean what you said back there?”
Killua looked over at Todoroki, then nodded. “Listen, I get it. I really do, that douche is a lot like my dad. Except, well. Less scary.” Todoroki looked away. “Don’t let him boss you around. Focus on what you want. Trust me, it’s a lot more rewarding than spending your whole life working towards someone else’s dream.” Before he’d left home, life felt so bleak and hollow. Full of suffering, with rarely any moments of joy in between. Todoroki let out a soft sigh. “In every memory of my mother, I only see her crying.” Todoroki said softly.
“I remember she called my left side unbearable, before she poured boiling water on my face. I don’t want to become the kind of man my father is.”
Damn. His home life probably wasn’t as brutal as mine, but it was still awful. Killua thought. “I mean, if it makes you feel any better my mom used to poison my food when I was a kid.” Todoroki’s eyes widened in shock, looking at Killua with a glint of alarm in his eyes. Killua chuckled softly. “Not enough to kill me, just enough to where my body could learn to fight it off. All she or my dad really cared about was making me stronger, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that I had a choice in what I did with my life.”
“Never forget that Todoroki. Your life, it’s yours and nobody else’s.” He said earnestly, placing a hand on Todoroki’s shoulder. Todoroki nodded. “He’s the reason why I never use my left side. I don’t want him to win. I want him to see I’m capable without it.” Killua hummed softly. I get where he’s coming from, but it’s also pretty irrational. Although he didn’t really know how to talk the guy out of it, so he didn’t try for now. “Although, if your mom really poisoned you, shouldn’t she be arrested?” Todoroki asked.
Killua let out a deep sigh. “Well honestly, my family aren’t really good people.” He admitted. “I haven’t actually been home in years, except two very brief moments out of necessity.” He figured he’d probably regret mentioning his family, but if that’s what it took to get through to Todoroki, it was worth it. Todoroki nodded, then gave Killua a thoughtful look. “I have another question.” Killua placed his hands behind his head once more as they rounded the corner. “Go ahead.” Todoroki’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly in contemplation. “I’ve always been curious.” He started.
“What’s the mask for?”
Killua snorted, he was surprised nobody had asked him about it yet. “I’ve never seen you take it off, or eat.” Todoroki continued. “Well.” Killua started, with a slight sigh. “I kind of…need it to breathe?” Todoroki’s eyes widened in surprise. “It filters the air so it’s breathable for me, I can take it off in order to eat but it usually goes incredibly slow so I don’t eat at school. I can only eat a few bites at a time, which is annoying but it’s better than being fed through an IV.” Killua grumbled. “I see. That’s the medical condition Mr. Aizawa was talking about.” Killua nodded, then let out a groan. “No way I’m passing up festival sweets though, I’ll catch you later.” He said, picking up the speed as he beelined for the food stands. Festival pastries here I come!
