“We have a big class today on hero informatics.”
Killua yawned, leaning back in his chair. Informatics? That stuff’s usually boring. He grumbled internally. It had been a few days since the sports festival, and now school was back in full swing. “You need code names.” Killua blinked, he hadn’t expected that to be what came out of Shota’s mouth. “It’s time to pick your hero identities.” Killua immediately began thinking, he honestly had no idea. I mean I guess a few times I’ve thought about having a cool Hunter codename, but I never took it seriously.
“This is related to the pro hero draft picks I mentioned last time we were in class.”
He went on to explain how most first years didn’t get this chance, and how this year the hero course students were a bit special. He proceeded to show how many people had sent out offers for them, and Killua’s eyebrows raised slightly at the results. Me and Bakugou got around the same amount of offers, even though he beat me. Killua wondered who chose him, he’d have to search through the names later and really think about who he was going to decide on. I wish I could’ve worked with Shota. Killua had made it clear to Shota that he wanted to go to him for his internships, but the coffee addicted hero had straight up refused to take him and told him to pick someone else. “Now remember. This hero name might be temporary, but take them seriously or-“
“You’ll have hell to pay later!”
Killua watched as Midnight sashayed in the room, scoffing at her comment about indecency. As if you’re one to talk. He thought. “The name you give yourself is important.” Shota said, fishing his sleeping bag out from under the podium at the front of the room. “It helps reinforce your image, and shows what kind of hero you’re trying to be. Let it tell the world exactly what you represent.” What I represent huh? Killua thought, suddenly getting an idea. A word stuck out to him, he couldn’t choose anything else.
As whiteboards were passed around the room, Killua took his and immediately started writing. Aoyama presented his first, but Killua wasn’t paying any attention. He needed to think of the prelude to his title. The wandering hero? No. The masked hero? That’s stupid. He thought long and hard, before eventually coming to a conclusion. He didn’t need one. All that really mattered was the name itself, what came before it didn’t much matter. Or maybe I’ll think of something later. Killua mused, grabbing his dry erase marker.
Killua quickly wrote down the name he had chosen in kanji, making sure the lines were smooth and bold. Suddenly it struck him. What if Midnight thinks it’s too boring? Killua wouldn’t let her change it for him. He stood up, his whiteboard in his hands. Midnight gave him a smile as he approached the front of the room, ready to present. He wasn’t sure why it was necessary in the first place but it didn’t much bother him. “So, what will your hero name be?” Killua took in a deep breath, then spoke in a clear voice.
“Hunter.”
There was an awkward silence, and Midnight gave him a strange look. “Just…hunter?” Killua nodded. “Where I’m from, we have these people called Hunters. They aren’t the same kind who shoot at deer in the woods.” Killua explained. He wouldn’t go into too much detail, but he sure as hell wasn’t going to give up this hero name because Midnight thought it was ‘too boring’. “Ah, so it’s sentimental?” Killua shrugged. “Sort of. A Hunter is always chasing something. Whether that be fame, money, criminals, or the unknown.” Midnight nodded thoughtfully. “Very interesting. What are you chasing after?” Killua let out a scoff, turning away from her to head back to his seat.
“Wouldn’t you like to know.”

Later that night, Killua was sifting through the names of his offers. He already knew several of them. Such as Hawks, Mount Lady, and Gunhead. He was already leaning toward Hawks, but decided to keep going through his several thousand offers before making a decision. A ton of these names he’d never even heard of before. Who the hell’s ‘Crust’? Killua thought dubiously, googling the name. To his shock, the man was a pretty well known hero. I guess even heroes with weird ass names can become pretty good heroes.
Suddenly, a name caught his eye and he immediately knew that was going to be his choice. Killua had seen her on T.V frequently, he hadn’t actually realized she was a pro hero. Although I honestly should’ve guessed. He kicked the covers off, and made his way to his feet. Killua walked down the hallway with a hum, knocking on Shota’s door. “Shotaaa, I picked a pro to intern with.” He said, with a grin. There was a grumble from inside the room. “I was sleeping.” Killua rolled his eyes. “Oh come on, it’s only 8 pm.” Killua shot back.
There was another grumble, then the door slowly cracked open and Shota reached a hand out. “Give it here.” He muttered tiredly. Killua handed over his paper, placing a hand on his hip as he waited for Shota to reply. He slowly peered down at the agency Killua had selected, then gave KIllua a strange look. “Really?” Killua nodded. “Uhuh.” Shota let out a groan, rubbing his temples. “Why? You won’t get to show off your full potential in an environment like that. Plus that woman is insufferable.” Killua huffed. “It’s my final choice.” A sly grin spread across his face, although Shota wouldn’t be able to see it. “Unless-“
“Absolutely not.”
