Killua was sitting across from him on the couch, they’d gone to what he thought was Killua’s new house. He sat and listened as Killua explained everything. Why he left, why he never had time for him as a kid. And Kalluto was left feeling a mix of emotions he couldn’t quite pin down. Sadness, anger, and something else maybe? He wasn’t quite sure. He felt like his entire world was shaking. A good deal of what he knew was a lie. Killua gave him a somber look. “Kalluto, I know you love our mother. But she doesn’t really care about you as a person. She cares about your future as an assassin.” He was explaining, as Kalluto fought back tears.
“Plus, it’ll never make you happy.” Killua took Kalluto’s hands in his, and Kalluto could tell he was smiling under that mask. “There’s so much more to life than just…work. Tell me, Kalluto. Is there anything you’ve ever wanted to do?” Not…really? All I’ve wanted is to do the best I can at my job. And… Kalluto spoke in a soft voice. “I want…to spend more time with you.” Killua’s eyes got slightly glassy, and he pulled Kalluto into a tight embrace. “Oh Kalluto…we can. I have school, but after classes and during weekends we can spend all the time you want together.” Kalluto felt warmth ball up in his chest, as he leaned against his brother.
He felt safe, comfortable.
Happy.
~~~~~~~~~Killua’s PoV~~~~~~~~~
He knew Kalluto would need a lot of work. Killua had spent years to get where he was today morally, no doubt Kalluto would take some time to understand how the real world worked. But he’s willing to listen. Killua thought, as he held Kalluto close. I’ll give him all the love and support he needs. Killua thought fiercely. He held Kalluto for a long while, much longer than a usual hug was supposed to span. “Are you gonna…let me go now?” Kalluto asked slowly. Killua huffed, not ready to let go yet. “No.”
“What the hell is going on in here?”
Killua froze, he hadn’t even heard Shota walk in. His head snapped around to see the old man standing in the doorway, a frown upon his lips. “Oh- Shota this is Kalluto. He’s my little brother.” He explained, slowly letting go of his brother. Kalluto stuck close to his side as he peered at Shota. Killua smiled at him. “Kalluto, this is Shota. He’s kind of…my adoptive dad?” That wasn’t really the truth, but it was the easiest way he could put it to make Kalluto understand. Shota’s eyebrows raised. “You have siblings?”
Killua sighed, wrapping an arm around Kalluto’s shoulders. “four, actually.” He said dryly. “I can only stand two of them though.” Kalluto glanced up at Killua. “Why does it look like he’s wearing a hero costume?” Killua opened his mouth to answer, but Shota beat him to it. “Because I am one. Killua, I don’t mind your brother staying here. But where did he even come from?” Killua gulped, there was no way in hell he could admit the truth. Remember the cover story we practiced, Kalluto. “I came to visit Tokyo, but I got a bit lost. Then I ran into big brother.” Kalluto mumbled, leaning against his side.
The way Kalluto was so clingy was equal parts adorable and sad. “Anyways.” Shota said, his eyes boring into Killua’s. Killua grew a little nervous, unsure what he was mad about this time. “I heard you were involved with the Hosu incident. More specifically, with the hero killer.” Killua resisted the urge to let out a sigh of relief. Thank god. “Oh, yeah. I came up behind him while he was distracted and pinned him. He passed out a few moments later, I didn’t do much.” Killua said, lying through his teeth. Shota held his gaze for a moment, before letting out a deep sigh. “I know you can take care of yourself, but remember what you promised me during the sports festival.”
~~~~~~~~~Approximately three hours later~~~~~~~~~
“Oh my god! Are you alright?”
Momo exclaimed, as Killua entered Uwabami’s dressing room. Uwabami, Kendo, and Momo all shifted their eyes to him at Momo’s shout. “You went to follow Midoriya, but you weren’t in the papers at all.” Kendo said, with a frown. “What happened out there?” Killua let out a deep sigh, remembering what Shota had said about Endeavor taking the glory. “Well, I didn’t do much.” He said, taking a seat beside the two other hero course students. “Honestly I don’t think it would’ve gone any differently if i wasn’t there.” Killua lied. Momo let out a groan, looking miserable. “At least you got some crime fighting action.” Uwabami nodded thoughtfully. “You know what, you’re right.”
Momo glanced at Uwabami, blinking. “Huh?” Uwabami let out a sigh. “You haven’t been doing any actual hero work since you’ve been here.” She said, standing up with a smile. “So, how about we go patrol?” Momo and Kendo both glanced at each other with a delighted gasp, then turned in unison. “Yes!” Uwabami glanced over his shoulder and gave him a smile. “You can take a break, I’m sure you’re exhausted and a bit put off after last night.” Killua hummed, tucking his hands behind his head comfortably. ” Ah, I guess I’ve already had my fair share of action. You guys go have fun.”
And with that, they exited the room. Killua was left to himself, mulling over the very quick series of events. With Stain, then Kalluto. He just hoped that Midoriya, Todoroki, and Iida would keep their lips sealed about his past. Sure they were his classmates, but Killua had no idea if he could actually trust them. Killua stared down at the black screen on his phone, unsure if he should call Todoroki or not. He wasn’t sure if he’d even be able to look his friend in the eye after that revelation.Â
Damn it.
