“Where did he go?”
“What in the hell just happened-“
“Find him.“
There was utter chaos in the facility. The students were being ushered away back to the main campus, Midnight being rushed to the hospital, a search going out for the ‘quirkless’ boy who’d vanished after nearly killing one of his teachers. The three students who knew about Killua’s criminal past were torn on whether to speak or not, knowing doing so would get themselves in heaps of legal trouble as well. The entirety of class 1-A was tense, all packed into their classroom. They murmured to each other in low hushed voices, trying to make sense of what had happened. When suddenly, it sounded as though a meteor struck the building, and the intruder alarm started sounding.
~~~~~Gon’s PoV~~~~~~~~
The wind was knocked out of him for a few moments as he lay, staring up at a ceiling. Did I fall through a roof? He wondered, deliriously. His hand burned like hell. Despite having fallen hard enough to break a hole in the roof of whatever building he’d fallen in, the only bad injury he’d sustained was from the sacrifice required to get there. Killua’s here somewhere. I just need- he went to sit up, only to have a moment of vertigo as he nearly flopped over on his face again. The hell? Why does my body feel so weird? And what is this thing on my face?
There was something strapped to his cheek, it felt very strange. Footsteps began to approach him, followed by some shouting. “Midoriya! Allmight warned us to stay in the classroom-” A teenager around his own age approached, he had a mess of green curls and an alarmed expression. “Who are you? You’re injured!” He exclaimed, reaching down to help Gon up. Gon coughed, letting out a groan. “That hurt. Sorry about the property damage, I’ll cover that. But there’s no time! I’m looking for someone.” He said, trying to get his bearings on the situation.
“Here, there’s a possible villain in the building. Come with me.”
He dragged Gon into a room filled with other kids his age, although some of them didn’t exactly look human. Immediately he was surrounded by a crowd of people asking him questions. Gon coughed again, the air seemed incredibly harsh for some reason. Like the air quality is real bad. He thought. What’s this thing on my cheek though? He thought, trying to tug it off his face. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t remove it from his body. Is it a Nen thing? Gon thought, confused. He’d lost the ability to use Nen, so he was unable to check.
Gon tried to gather his bearings on the situation, as one of the teenagers started bandaging up his hands. “How did you even get here?” The green haired one asked. Gon rubbed the back of his head. “I…fell through the roof? Really hard?” He glanced around the room, he thought it might’ve been a classroom. “Where are we?” He questioned. “U.A High school, the most esteemed hero school in Japan.” One of the guys answered, with some strange robotic arm movements. Japon? Gon thought, in confusion. “Cool- anyways I’m looking for someone. I need to find him. Has anyone seen a-“
The door burst open, cutting him off. A man with long black hair, and some weird goggles and a scarf around his neck set his eyes on Gon. “Who’s that? He doesn’t look like a student..” The man’s eyes flared red, and Gon blinked. Kurta eyes? “Are you part of the Kurta clan?” Gon asked him, the chances of that being true were highly unlikely but he could think of no other explanation. The old man stared at him for a few seconds, before speaking. “No…? What’s that?” He asked, slowly walking in, hand on his scarf.
Gon leaned on the wall, blinking. “Well my friend Kurapika’s eyes change to red when he gets mad, it’s part of the Kurta Clan genes or something. All the rest of them got massacred by the Phantom Troupe so I was confused when I saw you had really similar eyes.” There was a beat of silence, and Gon took that as a sign to continue speaking. “That’s not important though, I’m here because I’m looking for someone.” The man shook his head. “Can’t help you right now, we’ve got a dangerous individual on the loose. He could be somewhere in this building, its better to stay safe in here with the other kids.”
Gon huffed, taking a step forward. He was getting used to the strange place a little. “Well I’m good at tracking people, I got a really strong nose. Maybe I could help you? Then you can help me! All I need is something with their scent on it.” He insisted. The man’s eyes narrowed slightly, then he sighed and fished some clothes out of a bag. “We’re kind of lost for options right now, so whatever.” He muttered. Gon quickly plucked the clothes from him, it seemed to be a school uniform. He took a deep inhale, then Gon’s eyes snapped open.
“He’s not dangerous.”
It’s Killua! Gon thought internally, feeling excitement and relief bubble in his chest. The old man frowned. “What do you mean?” Gon inhaled deeply again, taking in his best friend’s scent once more. “It’s Killua! He’s who I was looking for.” Gon explained. “He went missing like a year and a half ago and he like vanished off the face of the earth! I’ll find him for you, I’m sure this is a huge misunderstanding.”
The classroom fell into an uneasy silence. Gon didn’t read into it, he was too excited to see his best friend again. Gon dropped the clothes, then slowly exited the room. He inhaled deeply, closing his eyes as he attempted to detect the scent. The man with the scarf slowly walked over to him, coming to a stop beside him. Gon’s eyes snapped open, and he pointed down a hallway. “That way!”
Gon darted through the hallway, stumbling a little as he got used to his body being lighter. “How do you know Killua?” The man asked, as he kept up with Gon. Gon beamed. “He’s my best friend in the whole world!” Gon started rambling on in his excitement. “We met when we were 12, at the Hunter Exam! Then we traveled around the world for a while, then there was a whole war and I kind of almost died but it’s fine because Killua saved me.” All of his old memories were flooding into his head as he thought about reuniting with his best friend. I’m so excited, when I find him again we can go back to traveling the world together!
