Killua sat on the floor of the locker room, trying to hold back his tears. He didn’t know what to do. Everything he’d made for himself here seemed to be crumbling down. All of my friends hate me now, and Shota does too. I can’t face Kalluto like this, I’m supposed to be a good influence… He’d heard a commotion earlier, as well as a large impact. No doubt they were all looking for him. But he was torn. Should I just turn myself in? Or do I run away? Neither option seemed good.
He was broken out of his thoughts as the door to the locker room slammed open, nearly falling off its hinges. Killua stiffened, preparing to flee. However, when his eyes landed on the figure in the doorway he couldn’t help the tears that flowed. “Killua!” Gon ran over and hugged him tightly, he looked almost exactly like he had when he’d gone off to the world tree. “G-Gon?!” Killua gripped onto his back, holding him in a tight embrace. He was feeling such a confusing mix of emotions, he couldn’t help but start sobbing. Gon’s smile turned into a worried frown. “Killua? What’s the matter? Are you hurt?” He worried, running his fingers through Killua’s hair.
Suddenly, Killua realized. Gon wasn’t wearing a mask. Panic surged through him, and he reached to take his mask off when he realized that Gon wasn’t gasping for air. “How are you breathing?” He blurted, in shock. It shouldn’t be possible. Gon blinked. “I’ve always been able to breathe? But the air quality is super awful. Is that why you’re wearing that mask?” Gon questioned, placing a finger on it curiously. Killua was confused, but honestly he didn’t care. Gon was right in front of him, in his arms. Gon would never hate me, he’s always forgiven me when I make mistakes.
Gon was the one person he could count on to not turn his back on him, no matter what Killua did. Even if he deserved it. Gon truly was light itself. Gon squeezed him a little. “Why are you crying?” Gon asked. “Please, be honest with me.” Killua hesitated, then looked down. Even though he knew Gon wouldn’t hate him for what happened, he still felt so guilty. “I think I might’ve accidentally just killed one of my teachers.” Killua said, swallowing hard. “I forgot I wasn’t fighting Nen users and accidentally used Ko, I was so wrapped up in how I just wanted the match to be over with that I wasn’t thinking about what I was doing.”
Gon’s gaze softened, and he slowly rubbed Killua’s back to comfort him. He had to admit it felt nice. “So it was an accident?” Killua nodded, wiping his tears away. “Yeah. None of my friends probably like me anymore, and Shota’s definitely gonna kick me out if I don’t get arrested. Everything started going so wrong so fast..” Gon’s eyes widened slightly. “You made friends?” Killua was slightly taken aback, momentarily shocked out of his negativity. “Yeah..? Why do you sound so surprised?” Gon’s eyes sparkled, and he grabbed Killua’s hands in his own. “That’s so amazing! Who are they? I want to meet them!”
Killua gave Gon a deadpan look. “What part of ‘my friends probably hate me now’ did you not understand?” As Gon took his hands into his own, he felt the soft scratch of a bandage against his fingers. His eyes dipped down, in curiosity and worry. His blood ran cold at what he saw. W-What? Gon’s hands, they weren’t right. They were bandaged up, and three of his ten fingers were missing. His right ring finger, his left pinkie, and his right index finger. H-He didn’t- Killua’s heart sank. The only reason he could think of as to how Gon had found him, why his fingers were missing. Was that he’d had to sacrifice them in order to be granted one of Nanika’s wishes.
Killua gritted his teeth. “You idiot!” He shouted, gripping onto his best friend’s hands. “You- why did you-” Gon’s eyes teared up a little, and he pulled Killua closer. “It was the only way to get you back! It was worth it.” He insisted. Killua opened his mouth to speak again, but Gon continued. “I looked all over for you for months. It was the only way to find you again. I couldn’t lose you. You mean too much to me…” He was willing to sacrifice his own life like that…for me? Killua felt tears welling at the edges of his eyes once more. “G-Gon I…” He entwined his fingers around Gon’s, or what was left of them.
Gon squeezed his hand, and Killua pulled it in close to his chest.”Killua…” Killua’s heartbeat sped up, and gradually he felt all his sadness and his fear melting away. He couldn’t stop staring into those honey gold eyes. He knew he was probably going to regret the next words that came out of his mouth, but Killua wasn’t thinking straight. “Gon I l-“
“AHA! I HAVE FOUND YOU!”
Killua was startled by Allmight’s shout, head snapping over to the doorway. Not only was Allmight standing there, but Shota as well. He felt his face heat up, and he snatched his hand away from Gon’s Ah! So embarrassing! Gon glanced over to Allmight, wrapping his arm around Killua. “Oh hey! Nice to meet you. I’m Gon Freecss, what’s your name?” The startled look on Allmight’s face was so hilarious, he couldn’t help but giggle. Gon blinked, glancing at Killua. “Ne Killua, what were you about to say just now?” Killua blinked, then his face turned beet red. “W-What? It was nothing!” Killua snapped, shoving Gon off him and standing to his feet with a huff.
“You’re such a moron.”
Allmight cleared his throat, and Killua glanced back over at him. The temporary lightness he’d experienced melted away, and Killua felt his stomach churn with guilt and anxiety once more. “Young man, you’re going to be detained for the time being.” Killua looked away. “Understood..” Gon placed a hand on Killua’s shoulder. “Huh? Why! He said what happened was an accident.” Allmight huffed. “And you, are going in for questioning as well. Young Freecss.”
