A Western Doctor’s Happy Farming Life[1] 110

Wu Dahu laughed out of his wrath, he grasped the collar of Hualian’s cloth and then lifted him up roughly, sneering, “Well, well, what a golden mouth you’ve got! Are you really that tough and not going to confess? Then let’s go and meet your grand master. I will let you see whether your tongue is tougher than my fists!”

“Nooo, please, please don’t take me there…”

Hualian begged as the tears in his eyes blurred his sight, he was so lowly like a tiny granule of dust blown away by a random stream of breeze, aimless and homeless.

However, Wu Dahu dragged him outward mercilessly just like he was dragging a dead dried fish as if he didn’t hear the voice of Hualian.

Hualian closed his eyes and screamed as they almost got the gate in the yard, “If we really go to Master’s Mansion today, the child will die!”

Wu Dahu paused, narrowed his eyes and said coldly, “Oh, really? So you hid Wenxuan your own?”

He thought getting Yuan Wenxuan was from Zhai Su’s idea in the beginning, but now, it seemed this Hualian guy had hid something his own?

Hualian sobbed and cried in despair, “it’s me, it’s me! But if I can’t complete the mission, they will die!”

Wu Dahu looked down at Hualian from a height, he could capture the information in Hualian’s utterance, and then he asked, “They? Who are they? Your relatives? How vicious is Zhai Su to resort to such an unscrupulous tactic?! What is the mission? To poison Song Qinghan to his death?”

But beyond his expectation, Hualian passed out suddenly after he inhaled the air for a moment.

Wu Dahu got his sullen face even tighter as the femina man became soft and lifeless on the ground. He couldn’t go back to find Song Qinghan if he failed to get Yuan Wenxuan back. But if Hualian refused to confess to the actual location where Yuan Wenxuan stayed, he couldn’t find the boy even though he went to get the officials here. And even worse, such an action probably would put Yuan Wenxuan on thin ice. Now the most troublesome problem was that Hualian wouldn’t confess if he couldn’t complete the mission.

It was a real contradiction now posting to Wu Dahu. If it was possible, he would really smash the brain of Hualian and see what the real intentions he got.

He walked around in the yard while looking at Hualian who was lying motionlessly on the ground, he sighed heavily with resignation, and then closed the door and headed to get Doctor Shi.

When Doctor Shi got into the yard and found Song Qinghan and Yuan Wenxuan weren’t at home, while noticing that the only servant in the house was “bullied” and lying on the cold and dead ground without consciousness. He got his expression rather strange and mumbled something to himself. But when he saw that Wu Dahu was frowning tight there without words, he approached to take Hualian’s pulse.

“Alas, this child gets a weak physical foundation, he has been in a situation of starvation for years and now he got frightened suddenly. That’s the main reason he passed out. Feed him some sugar soup and congee later, and get him some rest.”

After that, he looked at Wu Dahu who was seemingly being careless, and then he asked, “Where are Doctor Song and Wenxuan going? Are they going out for a walk?”

Wu Dahu paused for a moment, and then he decided not to expose the whole matter, answering in a vague tone, “Something like that.”

Dr. Shi sighed and nodded, saying, “Alright! It’s good for Doctor Song to talk a walk though, and he can go out for other doctors to see whether some of them know such an illness. Doctor Song is such a talent, I am afraid he is envied by the Buddha, but trust me, as long as he is able to get through this suffering, bunch of fortunes are awaiting him.”

Wu Dahu didn’t make a sound and sent Doctor Shi out. He closed the door and stared at Hualian who was motionless, and then he mumbled to himself, “Being envied by the Buddha is better than being envied by some vicious men! The jealousy of man is the most terrifying thing in the world.”

He walked into the kitchen, made the sugar soup and then took it to the bed of Hualian. He scooped up a handful of cold water and splashed onto Hualian’s face.

Hualian woke up, breathing heavily so as to quench the fright in his mind. He looked at Wu Dahu who was without any expression, and then begged again, “Please, please, I heard that some doctors are able to make a feign death to the patients. Is it possible…”

“Drink it!” Wu Dahu broke in as he narrowed his eyes and delivered the bowl to Hualian.

Hualian shivered a little and then took over the bowl meticulously, and drank the water all in one breath. He just surprisingly found that the water was made of sugar at the end.

He pursed his cracked lips and clenched the empty bowl tightly, plucking up all his courage and saying, “Is it possible to make Young Mistress a feign death? I really need to complete the mission.”

Wu Dahu sneered and said coldly, “Why didn’t you confess earlier? Do you think it’s useful now? If Han can’t make it to survive from this poison. You and your so-called “They” will be burial objects for him. Understand?”

Hualian’s eyes were filled with guilt, and then he answered in a low voice, “I can’t say it, I really can’t say it. I can’t just stake their lives, what if Young Mistress refuse to…”

Wu Dahu didn’t have much expectations for Hualian, he had to figure out himself by connecting all the series of matter together, the situation would be like: Zhai Su threatened Hualian by seizing the lives of Hualian’s family members and forced him to approach Song Qinghan, murdered Song Qinghan by poisoning him. It was smooth in the very beginning, but they just found out the listless situation in time and went out for doctors even at night. In that case, Hualian took Yuan Wenxuan as a hostage and threatened them to help him complete the mission in order to save his family members.

At this point, the whole situation came to a real deadlock.Wu Dahu really wanted to confront Zhai Su by his own, but if Zhai Su was a real lunatic and killed all the family members of Hualian, then Yuan Wenxuan’s life would definitely be threatened too.

He tried to calm down by wiping his face.

He couldn’t take any action before he found Yuan Wenxuan. Otherwise if Yuan Wenxuan really came to a bad end, he couldn’t imagine how Song Qinghan would treat him.

Probably he would hate him so much? Yuan Wenxuan was his first disciple who was rather talented and tactful after all. But he… he was just a trouble maker.

Hualian stared at the bowl for a while. Noticing that Wu Dahu didn’t react for a long while, he raised his head secretly and just at the moment he found out the soreness on Wu Dahu’s face, he said tentatively, “Young Mistress… How is he now? I didn’t put much poison, probably he still gets a chance…”

Wu Dahu kept his silence for a moment, and then he said expressionlessly after calming down a bit, “What he worried the most now is the safety of Wenxuan, I think he will be better if he comes to know Wenxuan’s current situation.”

Silence fell on the room once again for a long while, it was a long dither for Hualian, and then he sighed heavily, struggling to straighten his back while saying, “I would love to meet Young Mistress with you together. I still hope he can survive since I still get a chance.”

After all… He still remembered the day Song Qinghan kindly shared their food to him.

Probably it was the first time he was cared by someone else. He would never ever forget how it felt, of sourness and warmth.

As the scene of that day occurred to him in his mind, he quickly turned his face to the wall wiping tears at the corner of his eyes with his sleeves.

He didn’t like to cry in front of people unless he got no other alternatives. Because he knew the truth since his childhood that tear wasn’t a panacea to solve everything in this world, that the world showed no mercy to tears at all.

Wu Dahu stared at Hualian for a while, but he he nodded, saying, “Alright, I will bring you there to meet him face to face.”

To keep a distance from Hualian to avoid misunderstanding, Wu Dahu rent another carriage for him. Though it was quite hard for Hualian to get into the carriage, Wu Dahu did not lend a hand but take the lead in front.

It was the first time for Hualian to ride a horse. He got startled all of a sudden as the horse whinnied and commenced running, and lay on his stomach on the back of the horse, shivering.

The two of them rested a few times along the way because Hualian was too weak to get himself a comfortable trip, he even vomited on the horse’s back.

Even so, their speed was still rather fast though. They reached the town before the sky started dimming down, and they got to the room where Song Qinghan stayed.

Song Qinghan had already decided to force himself to stay calm as hard as he could, but at the moment he saw Hualian, he still got his eyelids shivered slightly, he said in a low voice, “Where’s Wenxuan? Give Wenxuan back to me.”

Hualian looked at Song Qinghan who was now utterly disappointed, his eyes turned red suddenly, and then bit his lips slightly, saying in sadness, “Young Mistress, he’s safe, trust me, I just wanted to make use of him.”

Song Qinghan slowly raised his head, stared at Hualian’s face, and then said slightly, “Go on, tell me everything.”

Seeing that Song Qinghan was calmer, Hualian calmed himself down as well while taking a deep breath, then said in a tone which was a far cry from the one when he faced Wu Dahu, “Young Mistress, in fact I was not a servant at all, and I was just an ordinary eldest son in a normally poor family. Such etiquette and principles were all learnt after I was picked to be a selected servant.”

He paused as he noticed Song Qinghan was still listening expressionlessly without words, and then he smiled awkwardly, lowered his head staring at his fingers while saying, “I know, I will be so cheeky without sense of shame to respect you as my Young Mistress now. But I think I still need to confess. About half a month ago, a strange old man found us and said that he wanted to purchase a manservant who was submissive and was about to devote himself. And as a result, my parents decided to sell me to him. The old man was quite satisfied after I got some training about etiquette and principles. And after that he delivered me a pack of powder and claimed to me that it was his Master’s idea. If the mission is completed successfully, endless luxuries is awaiting my family, but if I fail… Death and destruction will be the result to us.”

Recalling that day when he was threatened, he choked with sobs while shaking his head and saying, “I didn’t really mean to hurt you, I just… I just hate the fact that our lives are being trampled by those noble, I just don’t want to accept the fact that my family members will just die because of me…”

Song Qinghan stared at Hualian whose eyes were lustreless with full of helplessness, he moved his fingers a bit and reached out to hold Hualian’s hands all of a sudden, and then said slowly yet decisively, “Then let’s survive and witness those evils die away by our own eyes!”

Hualian looked at Song Qinghan, dumbfounded, and then he whispered in diffidence, “Can we? But how? They got a real, real grand power, we…”

Song Qinghan clenched his fists, answering decisively, “Of course, trust me, and trust yourself.”

As Song Qinghan finished the last bit of his words, Hualian leaned close to Song Qinghan’s hand with a face of complete exhaustion as if he finally found his backbone.

Feeling the warmth from the back of his hand, Song Qinghan reached out to pat Hualian on the back while raising his head to look at Wu Dahu, saying in another wave of decisiveness, “Doctor Luo told me that my condition isn’t that bad, it will take three days for me to recover after the treatment. And as for the residual poison in my body, it takes time to clear out from my blood.”

Wu Dahu nodded slowly. Finally, he could get a relief in his mind.

“So we will take action to fight back to the mastermind behind the scene, what do you think?” asked Song Qinghan.

Hundreds of thousands of words overwhelmed Wu Dahu’s mind currently, but only a trace of indulgently warming smile could be found now on his face now, he looked at Song Qinghan in the eyes, saying decisively, “I will always be by your side no matter what you’re going to do.”
