A Western Doctor’s Happy Farming Life[1] chapter 42

A+ A-

“Hey, why the long face? Don’t worry, alright? I am not that kind of crooked and mean person. Moreover, it’s a win-win business. Isn’t it? How come I ruin my own benefit?” said Lin Dafu, seemingly he had seen through the inner thought of Song Qinghan.

“In addition…” he took a pause, pondering for a brief while, “I will leave this place tomorrow, how am I supposed to against you? Well, I think no more.”

With an astonishment, Song Qinghan asked him in curiosity, “What? Where are you heading to? And what for? Will you come back?”

Staring at Song Qinghan in somewhat amusement, Lin Dafu shook his head, saying, “You’re such a baby boy with million of questions. Aren’t you? Or maybe in short, what you would really want to know is that if I am coming back or not, right? Well, the answer must be promising for you. I will NEVER ever come back here again.”

Pondering, Song Qinghan found himself not that kind of extremely happy, but the utterance from Lin Dafu somehow aroused a trace of sorrow deeply in his mind, even though he knew there wouldn’t be a “JERK” being so annoying buzzing around him anymore.

Probably this man, being hurt thousand times without giving up, would finally bow himself to the fate and realize that they had no future at all.

After lunch, Lin Dafu sent all the servants away in the room, placing both his hands on the table and staring sincerely at Song Qinghan, saying, “So, you still choose to keep your silence not telling me about your secret till now?”

Avoiding the direct eye contact with him, Song Qinghan withdrew his eyesight, shaking his head and answering, “What are you talking about? I don’t have secrets, okay?”

Lin Dafu raised his eyebrows, saying, “Nahhhh, everyone owns a secret. You bet, my secret is that I still wetted my pants when I was six years old. How about you?”

As the ambience came to a relaxation, Song Qinghan felt more relaxed, saying, “Ah, my secret is that I wetted my pants at my seven.”

“Really?” said Lin Dafu, as he leaned against the chair, while staring at Song Qinghan who was now dogging on their eye contact and fumbling there. The unknown sorrow dragged him drowning down to an invisible abyss. He then continued to grumble, “Didn’t you say that you’ve lost your memories? How come you still remember the matter of your childhood?”

Song Qinghan knew exactly the man in front would keep buzzing him about the answer. With nervousness, he mumbled, “I… I got my tongue tangled.”

Hearing that, Lin Dafu got his eyes sharper, pouting himself there.

“Well, is that so? Then explain to me about the matter that you once confessed to me that you are a drunk freak? Are you sure that you were informed by Wu Dahu?”

Getting no any sign given by the bitter cold expression of Lin Dafu, Song Qinghan got no other answer but said, “Ye… Yeah! Of course he did.”

Lin Dafu gave him a response with a sneer, yet the smile on his face was of bitterness. This term he showed no more mercy, saying, “Well, it’s such a pity. But I am sorry to inform you that I did ask Wu Dahu about that. He told me that he never witness any scene of you being drunk. So tell me, how was he able to know that you’re a drunk freak?”

“Impossible! When did you…?” shouted Song Qinghan, but then he took a sudden pause, commencing recalling the day when Wu Dahu was released from the jail.

Did Lin Dafu sow the seeds of suspicion in his mind that day, and commenced collecting evidences in a sneaky way?

Things happened these five days started projecting a wave of frames of a movie in Song Qinghan’s mind. Finally, he realized the direst drama he had played was an obviously bad show, he shrugged, seemingly giving up all his struggle, and confessing, “Actually I…”

“Well, finally! Are you going to unmask yourself now?” said Lin Dafu.

Being of an extreme excitement, Lin Dafu tried to suppress his emotion. But the trembling utterance still exposed his mood swings.

Song Qinghan stood there dumbfounded, not knowing the intention of Lin Dafu.

WHAT UNMASK? He wasn’t the one underwent those stuff living with Lin Dafu, okay? Well, go blame the original one.

Getting no answer from the silent boy, Lin Dafu shook his head, saying with sadness, “I know! I know you are not suffering from amnesia. Right? Just take off your disguise, will you?”

“I was once enraged, and prepared for taking the revenge. But since I found you got a softened nature which is much better than what image of you in my mind, I gave it up. But I still wonder why, why would you approach me in the very beginning, and disguise yourself to be a figure that I like the most, indulging me for the sweetness. Or maybe that is because you got something long haunting around you. Right? As you once told me, you will lie to benefit yourself in the principle of not hurting others.”

Lin Dafu uttered with his head lowering down. He did express all the suspicions lingering in his mind at once.

Shocking, Song Qinghan struggled to follow up Lin Dafu’s words. But his mind failed him to answer right away, but gave him a response in vague, “Pro… probably…”

Lin Dafu raised his head all of a sudden, with his eyes red-rimmed. Well, that scene was totally out of Song Qinghan’s expectation.

“Okay, and you did hurt me at the end. So amnesia is just your excuse, right? From your points of view, that’s a lie of kindness. But it is still a LIE! Isn’t it?”

Song Qinghan stood there, scratching himself on his head in a rather awkward way, mumbling, “Yeah, otherwise… how am I supposed to do?”

As a transmigrator, he could not conceive another excuse except that one of amnesia.

A great relief seemed to be expressed in the deeper eyes of Lin Dafu at that moment, he calmed himself down a bit, saying, “Alright, fine. Actually I have to thank Wu Dahu for his presence. If he didn’t exist at all, you probably will never confess to me like today, and I will be a dumb ass forever. The more you lie to me, the deeper hurt I’ll gain from you. Well, anyway, it’s not too late currently.”

Song Qinghan nursed a guilt witnessing the big relief from a long haunting torment released from Lin Dafu’s expression, he pondered a while, saying seriously, “I admit it was all my fault. The biggest trouble impeding your happiness.”

Lin Dafu smiled, answering, “Nah, forget it. Since there‘s a heartbroken yet truth-revealing saying goes, all good things must come to an end. I think that must be an end for me. Well, why not accompany with me for the last show.”

Cool. Since Lin Dafu wouldn’t do something creepy, Song Qinghan would never worry over his strange utterance. In that thought, he promised.

They then walked abreast along the street, with exultation and joy. Every novelties along the way seemed to deliver them a brightest smile. Among all the fissures between them, there shone certain mild gleam of warming sunlight. At the end, Lin Dafu brought Song Qinghan to the biggest jewelry shop in the town.

Obviously, the shopkeeper of this jewelry shop were an acquaintance to Lin Dafu, and he even knew Song Qinghan. He delivered them a big smile, saying, “Childe Lin, Childe Song, you guys are such a lovely couple together. Is Childe Song going to give birth very soon?”

What the… Song Qinghan said nothing but rolled his eyes looking at the shopkeeper.

But Lin Dafu didn’t answer his question in a direct way, nor did he deny any of it, knowing the fact that this shopkeeper didn’t stay here in this place for years. He smiled, saying, “So did you get any newest device of the jewelry? Maybe you’ve got some fit for Han.”

Pondering a while, the shopkeeper gave him a response with a smile, answering, “I got one today. Kind of a charming one, I will go inside and take it out for you. Please wait for a minute.”

Then the shopkeeper left, leaving the two standing there. Song Qinghan pulled a bit the sleeves of Lin Dafu, murmuring, “Don’t you tell me that you will buy it for me… It must be so expensive.”

Lin Dafu raised his eyebrows, whispering, “Didn’t you say that you will accompany with me for the last show? Since we will never meet again in our future, why not take it for me.”

Hearing that, Song Qinghan couldn’t feel better but a bit nervous again, he had no choice but look outside the door avoiding their eye contact in such an awkwardness.

At the moment he turned his face toward the door, a familiar figure showed up right in the street passing through among the crowd. It was Wu Dahu! The one Song Qinghan longed to see.

“Dahu!” shouted Song Qinghan, as he was about to rush out and chased up, with his body stiffly jerking.

It was Lin Dafu who reached forth his hand to drag Song Qinghan back, frowning himself and saying, “What’s wrong? The shopkeeper is coming.”

Song Qinghan turned his head over staring at the man, but he then found himself was gazed at by Lin Dafu’s pathetic eyes. He took a pause, relaxing himself a bit and answering in calmness, “Nothing, I might get my eyes blurred.”

The shopkeeper stood there, sensing that the ambience is becoming queerer among the two. He then interrupted, trying to cheer up and saying, “Well, this hairstick is kind of extraordinary. It is when I get myself closer to observe it carefully, I find that it is with a dual side hollow design. Both side of it bears a connotation of fortune. Childe Song must love it.”

Lin Dafu took over the the hairstick, and then delivered it to Song Qinghan, saying, “How is it? Do you like it?”

Checking all over of the stick, Song Qinghan was stunned standing there, he found that the stick was made of a Suet Jade. He went up and couldn’t help but give the stick a touch.

It should be priceless in a modern world.

Song Qinghan stood there zoning out, then absorbed himself in observing the superb-looking hairstick, and trying to find out the so-called “dual side hollow design” as the shopkeeper mentioned. The stick, with its one side carved with a pomegranate tree and a toddler, and lily and mandarin ducks in the other side, gave off a sense of riches and noble. Song Qinghan couldn’t help but exclaim over the marvelous jade-like hairstick, saying, “Wow, that is so impressive and superb!”

The shopkeeper was amused by the reaction of Song Qinghan, explaining, “Childe Song. I know you always have a fancy over the hollow design. I bet that this is not the first one you’ve ever seen. In addition, the dual side hollow design posts a auspice of a good marriage, bunch of offsprings and more fortunes. This must fit you the most, Childe Song.”

“Fine, I will take it. Put it on my bill please.” Said Lin Dafu.

It seemed that the man was quite in his calmness by saying that, seemingly the hairstick was not a big deal for his fortune.

Song Qinghan knew that he couldn’t reject Lin Dafu’s vigorous hospitality, and he must take that gift for the persistence of Lin Dafu, but he still asked the shopkeeper in a curious tone, “Do you mind me asking how much it costs?”

The shopkeeper looked at Lin Dafu, and then pondered a while, saying, “Well, the original price is five thousand silver coins. But since Childe Lin and I are such acquaintances, I will only charge you for four thousand and five hundred silver coins.”

Song Qinghan took a deep breath standing there, and putting back the hairstick on the counter, as if he was worried that he would break it down the next second out of his caution.

Lin Dafu grinned, picking the hairstick up again leisurely, and motioning Song Qinghan not to move. He took the hairstick bypassing the face of Song Qinghan and gently insert the stick into his hair.

Attempting to dog, Song Qinghan failed to move but stood there stiffly, he worried that if he dodged, the stick probably would fell on the ground and broke.

At the moment Lin Dafu raised his eyelids looking somewhere outside the shop, someone was currently glaring at him in the street. Delivering a complacent grin, Lin Dafu then reached out to help Song Qinghan comb his hair. He didn’t step back but kept in a rather intimate distance until the one outside left. He then delivered another smile to Song Qinghan, saying, “Look, that is a superb match for you.”

The shopkeeper also came to butter up, seemingly flattering Song Qinghan to urge the deal, saying, “True dat! Childe Song is born with an innate beauty. With that hairstick, bravo! Amazingly beautiful you are.”

Shivering, Song Qinghan could somehow feel a bit disgust in his mind.

He still refused to accept the wording which was used to describe female. If the shopkeeper would change the word into something like “radiantly handsome”, he probably would cheerfully accept it.

Noticing the expression of unease shown from Song Qinghan’s countenance, Lin Dafu smiled to the shopkeeper, saying, “We got something else to handle with, will say goodbye now.”

The shopkeeper escorted them to the door of the shop, staring at the backs of the two, he exclaimed, “Such a wonderful couple. It’s just pitiful that Childe Song is just a concubine.”

The waiter, who hid himself at the corner along and did not dare to say something, stepped out now and said, “Manager, Childe Song had been kicked out of the Lin Mansion for a long time.”

“WHAT? Nahhhh, is it?”

The shopkeeper pointed at the two who had already long gone away, saying in a shock, “What the… They are not a couple anymore??”
