A Western Doctor’s Happy Farming Life[1] chapter 70

Wu Dahu nodded, and then put down the cup slowly, he glanced at those people who binged drinking and had been punch-drunk there, answering slightly, “Let’s leave tonight, no one can make sure that this guy will always keep his promise.”

He finally figured out that Zhang Yijian was such an eccentric and unreasonable man who would act with his own willfulness, and as for Yin Laosan, Zhang Yijian might be a man of honesty. But as for the others, everything about him changed.

Laifu showed his agreement to Wu Dahu. Anyway, as long as they could leave here and go back home safely, nothing would be a problem. Though nothing dangerous would happen to them here temporarily, his family members would surely worry about him for being out so long. He would never want something else to be festered.

After more and more guests in the ceremony got heavily intoxicated, Wu Dahu and Laifu walked on tiptop to stable, and then led two of their horses which had been fed nicely out from it. They saddled the horses up with the carriages and then set off after deciding which way to go.

Zhang Yijian finally walked to the nuptial chamber after the toasting, he stood aside Yin Laosan and then took off the red veil on Yin Laosan’s head.

He reached out to caress Yin Laosan on his face, touching the slight scar on it and saying, “What happened to you? Did you get hurt in this trip with them?”

Yin Laosan had been using his prowess on disguising to hide the scar up. But he didn’t want to put on any disguise on it anymore on his wedding day. In a result, it was the first time Zhang Yijian saw it.

Noticing that the expression on Zhang Yijian’s face turning into a cold one, he smiled slightly, saying, “No, it was when I broke in the woods and I was scratched by a wild animal. And that is the reason why I didn’t come to find you. And after that, I heard that Laifu intended to employ, and I just joined in his team.”

Hearing that, Zhang Yijian suppressed his murderous sense in mind, he failed to say something to rebuke Yin Laosan but just sighed heavily, saying slightly, “You little dum…”

Yin Laosan smiled big, and later he seemed to recall something in mind and then answered with an absent-minded expression, saying, “I have been throwing myself into a low and degrading life but I found that it isn’t that kind of dirty and messy. Every one is just an ordinary one, we got the same feelings, like happiness, bitterness and grievance. So will you still show a grievance over the fact that I misunderstood you and abandoned you?”

Zhang Yijian laughed, shaking head without hesitation and saying, “No I won’t. No matter what decision you made, or how you behaved, I won’t nurse any grievance over them. The only thing I will be regretful and complain about is that I didn’t explain everything clearly which had made you misunderstand. You must have been suffered so much bitterness.”

Shaking head, Yin Laosan asked slightly with curiosity, “Nah, but tell me, you really only want to set up a stockaded village for bandits? Don’t lie to me, because I have already noticed that this place should be an exquisite place which is easy to hold but hard to attack. And the flowing trend of all the houses are in accordance with the Eight Trigrams. You wouldn’t pay such a careful intention on this if you just want to build a normal village.”

Since Zhang Yijian found that the excitement didn’t overwhelm the brain of Yin Laosan, and the boy could still discern something in details, Zhang Yijian smiled with a great satisfaction, admitting, “That’s true, the horn of war is roaring, though I am not from a noble family and gain no tough background behind me, I still possess an ambition to dash about in a battlefield. Of course I should challenge myself in this world of turmoil and uncertainty.”

With a face of shock, Yin Laosan tried to search something in his memories, and then he figured out that Zhang Yijian’s ambition wasn’t a joke at all but something which could be traced in every detail. He just lost the chance to find out because he never took them to heart before.

After a while of silence, he noticed that Zhang Yijian was staring at him in a inquiring look, then he nodded slightly, saying, “I did make a mistake before, and I won’t make it again. I will always support you no matter what decision you will make or how you will take action.”

Noticing that Yin Laosan did repeat the words he said, Zhang Yijian was surprised, he then leaned down toward Yin Laosan with excitement, enjoying his vanity being as a man.

On the other side, since Wu Dahu and Laifu left the stockaded village, they just drove the carriage as fast as they could, as if there was something chasing them behind. It was not until they reached the main road did they slow down.

It was nothing for Wu Dahu though, but Laifu, the one who got no martial skills at all, fell down while the horse took a sudden pause suddenly. Luckily, the carriage which Laifu controlled was at the fore of the one from Wu Dahu. Wu Dahu paused the horse and then jumped down and picked Laifu up.

As the moon up in the sky slowly dipped down, the midnight was approaching. Wu Dahu hitched the horse’s rope over the the tree aside, and then went to light up the bonfires. He let Laifu take a rest in carriage, and decided to start his vigil.

Luckily, Wu Dahu had taken a good rest for an enough time when they were in the stockaded village. In this case, though Wu Dahu was on his vigil lonely, he still felt quite energetic. He just got his eyes blurred some times but woke up immediately.

At the moment he regained his consciousness again the third time, he noticed something featuring a pile of redness right in front of him.

If he wasn’t staying quite far away from the bonfires, he would have believed that the fire spread rapidly to his feet.

With an alarm, he opened his eyes all of a sudden and stared at the red thing not far away.

That stuff seemed to be of intelligence, it just hid itself behind trees, hesitating to show up.

It would be no good for Wu Dahu to stay still and do nothing, so Wu Dahu grabbed his dagger tight in hand, walked slowly and meticulously to that tree on tiptop.

Wu Dahu stepped on the ground slightly, but there was still a rustle of leaves cracking. Though the sound was weak, it was still a ear-splitting noise in such a dreadfully silent night, which, seemingly, had startled the unknown “animal”.

Suddenly, a red shadow flashed in front of Wu Dahu. And it gave Wu Dahu a chance to find out the real presence of it.

Well, that was a wonderful-looking red fox!

It was a common view that fur from a red fox was the most precious one among fox furs. Moreover, the one right in front of Wu Dahu featured a better look with an oily bright and fluffy fur on it. Not even a inferior fur could be seen on it.

Wu Dahu imagined that a cloth made by red fox fur must be a good match to Song Qinghan, so in that thought, he got his spirit lifted and then pounced on that red fox.

The red fox was startled all of a sudden by Wu Dahu’s movement, it turned around and then escaped quickly to the opposite direction.

As a sophisticated and experienced hunter, how would Wu Dahu just let it go so easily?

He turned around either to another direction and ran, not long he succeeded to intercept the pitiful fox. Acting quickly, he grabbed the red fox’s tail.

The red fox never expected that Wu Dahu would make a trick to it, and then it intended to escape. But it just screamed at the moment it saw Wu Dahu was ready to punch it on its stomach, while getting all its fur erupted and curling up in a pile.

With ease, Wu Dahu gripped the red fox’s tail in hand, while pinching his head at the same time. He intended to stun the fox with his fist, but just as he raised high his fist, he sank into a hesitation when he caught a glimpse of the watery and pitiful eyes.

If animism is real, then the red fox which Wu Dahu grabbed in hand should be an embodiment of it. Entreaty and helplessness were both reflected in its big and watery eyes. At the moment it noticed that Wu Dahu was taking a pause, it stretched out, exposing its soft belly to Wu Dahu, while moaning slightly as if it was begging for a mercy.

Wu Dahu then reached out to caress the red fox’s belly. But to his surprise, he could clearly feel a tough lump inside the fox’s belly, and then murmured surprisingly, “You’re pregnant??”

It seemed that the red fox could understand the words of Wu Dahu, and then it curled up again with its front legs crossed, bending its body as if it was kowtowing.

Wu Dahu called to mind Song Qinghan who was now waiting for him with anxiety, and then he shrugged and sighed slightly, loosening his hand and saying slowly, “Just go, I won’t kill you. But do not show up anymore in front of any human being.”

The red fox jumped on the ground but it didn’t seem to intend to leave urgently, it just bit slightly on corner of the trousers of Wu Dahu, seemingly dragging him to the direction of the place where the carriage stayed.

With puzzlement, Wu Dahu followed up towards the carriage.

As they reached the place, the red fox loosened its teeth and then jumped onto the carriage nimbly.

Luckily, this wasn’t the carriage on which Laifu slept, so Wu Dahu just let it in.

Not long, the red fox crept through the curtain and went out again, holding a big piece of dry meat in its mouth and looking at Wu Dahu with its watery eyes pitifully.

Wu Dahu finally figured out why this red fox would take risks to show up in front of him, this pathetic fox was begging for food!

Since he had decided to let go of this fox, of course he would never blame it for “Robbing” his food, so he waved his hands to it, saying, “It’s yours now, go back your nest.”

The red fox seemed to understand Wu Dahu again, it jumped down on the ground with excitement and headed to the woods while turning his head occasionally as if he wanted to remember Wu Dahu’s appearance in mind.

Wu Dahu stared at the back of the red fox, and gradually, it disappeared in the darkness. Though he was a bit disappointed but never regretful.

He would think that he was just doing good deeds and accumulating merits and virtues for Song Qinghan who was going to deliver a baby.

As everything was just settled, the drowsiness was swept away and the day was almost breaking.

Laifu woke up and finished breakfast with Wu Dahu. After that, they kept hurrying on with their journey.

The two were longing for home. It was not until they could clearly see the contour of their village did they slow down.

Wu Dahu pulled up the carriage before Laifu’s house, and then rushed back to his own one.

As he reached his house, he saw a man who wore a curtain on head knocking heavily on the door, while the man was shouting, “Doctor Song! Is Doctor Song here? Open the door!”

Wu Dahu got his face sullen all of a sudden, and then he recalled the day when Xiang Tiange set Song Qinghan up before.

It was almost night now, and it was quite unreasonable to see that a man dressed up in such a disguise of queerness and intended to knock out a femina male’s door!

Wu Dahu approached to the man, grabbed the man’s hands and twisted them on his back, fixing the man against the wall with his own single hand.

The man screamed, and then tried to raise his feet backward to kick Wu Dahu, but only to be hit on the back of leg. With such a hit, the man kneed down all of a sudden.

“Forgive me, master. Doctor Luo, Doctor Luo, save me! Save me please! Someone attack me in front of your gate. Help!” shouted the man.

It seemed that Song Qinghan was just leaning against the all behind the door, he snorted, saying without mercy, “How can I know whether you’re telling a lie or not? What if you hoax me into opening the door and do something evil? Anyway, I’m sorry to say that I am not able to help you since I’m pregnant. Bless yourself.”

Hearing the voice of Song Qinghan, Wu Dahu failed to suppress the excitement in his mind, he then shouted in a low voice, “Han, it’s me, I am back.”

With an utter amazement, Song Qinghan took a long while to regain his attention and then he placed his hand on the latch, but then sank into hesitation when he was about to open the door, saying, “Really? Are you Dahu? Not a lie?”
