Arthit’s POV
“Kongpob, back off! ” I snarled at him.
Then in heavy long strides, I walked out.
Why do I have to bump into him here?
Of all time, why now?
I was glad that he hasn’t insisted on following me because I am not sure what I could do anymore.
I exhaled the air that I didn’t know I was holding.
But deep inside me, the guilt was eating me.
Aside from his annoying remarks, he was nothing but nice to me.
It seemed like I was being unfair to him.
I know it wasn’t his fault that I had a wet dream about him last night but I couldn’t help to think that all his teasing led me to it.
He was constantly taunting me that I was unconsciously keeping it at the back of my mind.
Yes, that must be it.
It must be the reason why I dreamt of him.
I made a resolution to stay as far away as possible from him.
He should stop with his playfulness with me.Â
I knew he was just playing around and it was very unfortunate for me to be opted as his subject.
I have to keep my distance from him.
“Kids, kids..” coach Tim shouted.Â
After running away earlier this morning from Kongpob. I went back to my room and prepared for school and practice.
My class wasn’t until 11 but staying in my room would be a bad option.
It will just remind me of my dream.
I was absentmindedly doing everything the whole day that I was surprised to find myself in the gym, in a meeting after a practice.
“I have an announcement to make,” our team coach stated.
I snapped out from the bottomless pit of my thoughts when I heard Coach’s voice.Â
I sighed deeply.
“You’re getting married?” I heard Prem asked, I averted my attention at him. Coach Tim is a 35 year-old man and not yet married.
“I don’t have someone to stand as the bride yet.” he answered. “so the answer is no.” he added.
“I can set you up, coach.” Bright volunteered in his usual cheerfulness.Â
“If it’s you, I’d rather not.” coach joked. “I don’t trust your choices, Bright.”
Everybody taunted Bright that it causes him to shut up while pouting his lips and making faces.
Coach’s mouth curled into a sly smile. “As I was saying…”
“Don’t tell me you knock up someone?” Trust Bright to always come up with something.
“No, Bright.”
Vin elbowed Bright. “Let him finish, will you?” while laughing softly.
I shook my head while grinning.
Our new teammates can’t help but laugh at them. When my gaze landed at M, I couldn’t help but remember Kongpob in him.
I shook my head, don’t wander that far. I warned myself.
“We are going on a team outing,” coach Tim said.
Everyone cheered, including me.
“Your attendance is a must. You know the importance of this activity, right?” he asked when the cheering died down.
“To chase girls in their bikinis,” Bright proudly answered.
We all cheered in chorus.
Bright rose his hand arrogantly as if he had said something brilliant.
Knot hit the back of his head lightly although I think he deserved a hard one. “You have nothing on your mind but girls.”
“What do you want me to think about? You? In your bikinis?” he retorted.Â
“What about the game, the team or winning the next championship? ” he answered, his tone was rather kidding.
“That’s boring besides I have all of you thinking about that already. ” he wisely replied. We knew Bright was concerned about it too. He just really want to make fun out of everything.
“Anyway,” I heard coach. “Right?”
“For teamwork, I think? ” I answered, as I smiled awkwardly.
I heard others agreed.
“Correct,”
“Boring,” Bright mouthed at me voiceless. I kicked him since he was in front of me.
“We have a lot of new players in our team this year. Basketball is not an individual sport so developing our team work is very crucial. So we have a lot of group and pair activities prepared for you.”
It made some of us hyped up.
Others seemed to be planning what to do already .
“And Bright, sorry to disappoint you but we aren’t going to the beach so no bikinis for you.” our coach sounded rather taunting than sorry.
“Coach, if you want us to be more inspired to train harder. You have to bring us to the beach where there are a lot of girls. Right guys? guys?” He swept his glance at us.
“Us? I think it’s just you Bright.” Teet mocked him.
“I don’t understand you guys, at all.” Bright rested his case.
“We should be saying that you know.” I added.
“Whatever, “
“We will go camping at the foot of the mountain, few hours away from here. We will be leaving by Friday and go back on Sunday afternoon. Questions?”
Bright raised his hand.
“All settled then,” coach said, ignoring Bright.
“Coach! Question,” he exclaimed.
“Yes, Bright. There is only one girl there.” he seemed to know what Bright was about to ask.
“Really?” Bright seemed to brighten up.
“Yes, our mother nature.”
Bright shoulders dropped. Coach Tim seemed so happy about disappointing him.
He was very used to Bright’s antics.
And they gave him a fake sad expression.
Scenes from my dream last night flashes in my mind.
Why don’t they just go away?
Why I couldn’t just forget about it like most of my dreams?
I don’t understand why that particular dream just won’t be like that.
It’s like a broken DVD, it kept playing and playing on my mind.
I shook my head sharply as if it’ll help shake away my thoughts.
“You, okay cap? ” one of my teammates asked from behind me.
I plastered a smile before I turned to look at him. I saw the newly recruit player who just passed the tryout last Saturday.
He had his smile ready but curiosity and concern were on his eyes.
“Yeah, why? ” I asked absentmindedly.
I unconsciously studied his face, his good looks will probably earn us a lot of fans –especially girls.
The smile on his lips was pleasant and friendly.
“You don’t seem to look like one, ” he answered.
“No, I am fine. Just sleepy. ” I told him. He flashed me a smile. “How are you liking the team so far? “
“Great, captain. “
“Just Arthit will do, ” I laughed softly after. I always feel awkward whenever they call me captain.
“Okay, Arthit. ” he said, repeating my name.
“I’m sorry but I don’t think I got your name?” I apologetically asked.
“Aat, ” he offered his hand for a handshake. I quickly took it.
He held my hand for a little longer than necessary.
“Let’s do well, Aat! ” I commented while exerting some force for him to let go but to no avail.
“Sure, Arthit. Having you as a captain, I’ll definitely do well. ” I heard him said faintly but did not put any meaning into it.
I pursed my lips.
“I’m sorry, coach. My class just ended so I couldn’t come to practice on time. ” I heard someone said.
The voice was very familiar that I instinctively turned my head at it.
There I saw Kong, standing beside coach, looking so apologetic.
My gaze was locked at him when I saw him casually swept his glance at us.
His gaze didn’t meet mine instead he was more like looking at my hand holding Aat with an unreadable expression.
When his eyes squinted, I hastily broke our handshake.
Why the hell is he here?
