Arthit’s POV

“Kong?”

He had this pleasant awkward expression on then he smiled kindly.

I swallowed what felt like a huge lump in my throat before speaking. “What are you doing here? ” I implored.

“Can I come in? ” he asked. It didn’t sound like a question but a subtle command. 

It made me raise my brow.

“3 words,  8 letters. Say it and you may. ” I playfully told him. The idea came to me just to make things a little hard for them. I didn’t want him to think that I was glad to have him here.

“I like you?” it was a quick response from him.

I should have known it will backfire.

I should have remembered that he always has his ways to turn my words against me.

Even if so, I pursed my lips to hide the smile. 

Game on, Kong.

I pouted my lips before replying. “Me too,” I paused and looked at him in the eye.

I didn’t know what has gotten into me but it just came out from my mouth naturally.

Was it joy that flickered through his eyes?

Gotcha.

What should I do?

I gave him a huge smile. “I like me too.” then I repeated. I moved my brows up and down to taunt him.

His eyes twinkled and his lips twitched arrogantly. “Tsk. You don’t have to like you. It’s my job.”

The grin on my face disappeared abruptly.

I bit my lips. “Do you wanna be kicked out of here?” it didn’t sound like a threat for sure.

“Absolutely not,”

“So? What’s the answer? ” I

He raised his hands with plastics full of sweets and snack in it.

“I got food? ” he answered.

My lips formed the biggest smile I had of the day. “You know me so well,  come in. ” I scoot in even more for him to enter. He settled himself few inches away from me.

I sat myself across him and took the plastic he handed. 

“Why are you here anyway?” I asked while munching chips. I offered him to have some which he quickly accepted.

“They are all in our tent playing cards, M is showing them some tricks. “ 

“Why not join them?”

“I’m tired, just wanna have a quiet place.”

“And why did you go here?”

“Because you’re my quiet place.”

“Ha. Ha. Funny.” I pretended to laugh. I will never let him see how it affected me.

“I’m not trying to be funny though.”

“Do you really want to be kicked out of here?”

“Definitely not.”

“What happened to “I need to stick with you guy” then? ” I tried my best to mimic his voice earlier.

“You heard it? “

“I have ears, of course I would. “

He smiled mischievously. “Ton is a nice guy, we get along just fine.”

“You should have come to his tent instead of here! Since you can’t be away from him. ” I replied as casual as possible before putting a piece of chips in my mouth.

He did not respond, I turned to him.

He was intently looking at me. “What?” I uncomfortably questioned. 

Without saying anything, he stretched his arms and touched my lips with his thumb. 

“Crumbs,” he said after, staring at me.

I was frozen by his sudden move. His thumb was soft and warm. It sent a familiar feeling in me.

When I recovered, I pulled my head away and wipe my mouth with the back of my hand.

There was a pregnant silence afterward. 

“Kong,  do you think we can win this season? ” I probed to lessen the tension in the air.

“I don’t see any reason why not? If we work hard enough, why? “

“Honestly, I am kind of anxious about it. “

“Why? “

“Last year, with the help of our captain we were able to make it to the finals. This year, I don’t know if I can lead you all the way there too. “

“Don’t doubt yourself, you can do it for sure, ” he encouraged.

“You even beat me during our one on one.”

“I was just so motivated to win that meal with you but it was hard for me.”

I know he was just being kind. “I don’t think so,” You are way better than me.

“Coming from a captain, I’ll take that as a compliment.”

I smirked.

He looked at me. “Arthit, don’t take the responsibility alone. We are a team. And, I’ll always have your back.”

“Coming from someone who doesn’t go to practice on time, that’s very comforting, ” I mocked him.

I heard him chuckled.

“It can’t be helped. I already fixed things so it won’t overlap with my practice schedule.” he explained.

I nodded. “Is that so? “

“Arthit, you can do it because it’s you. I believe you can.”

“You trust me that much? ” I solicited.

“No,  I just don’t have any choice but to trust you. ” he quickly responded in a serious tone.

I threw him the pillow beside me. Luckily, he was able to dodge it.

He laughed out loud and it was very contagious. I couldn’t help but laugh along with him.

I laughed hard enough to almost choke.

When it died down,  we caught each others gaze.

“Don’t worry,  you are not alone. You got me. ” with a stern look on his face.

It comforted my restless mind.

I  was so touched that I couldn’t come up with something to say.

Waves of happiness washed over me.  I felt it reached right into my bones.

It was very soothing.

I closed my eyes and savoured the feeling that fizzled in my heart.

Is it even legal to be this happy?

It felt extremely good to have him with me.

It soothes me to know that I have him to trust me.

I felt like if I am going to depend on someone, it would be him.

I want to depend on him.

I want him.

I didn’t know when but the moment I opened my eyes to look at the person who gave me mixed feelings inside, his face was few inches away.

He was staring at me as if memorising every part of my face. I felt embarrassed but I dare not to look away.

I felt like I was put in a trance and all I could do was stare back at him.

We held our gaze for long before he slowly lowered his face to mine, I deliberately ignored the warning bells in my head.

I was anticipating for it.

Our lips met.

It was a light touch at the beginning, he seemed to be testing my reaction.

It was there,  that rapid pounding of my heart.

He placed his hand on my cheek and drew me closer deepening the kiss when I did not oppose.

It was slow and tender.

He was very careful and sweet.

As we parted our lips I saw his eyes sparkle and his lips curved into a smile –I couldn’t help but smile back.
