Early in the morning, Alastair ventured into the forest to hunt for blood. Despite having drunk excessively before, he could never find satisfaction; his craving only intensified. Then, he caught a whiff of human blood and quickly followed the scent. He spotted a plump young man fishing by the river from atop a tree. Like the wind, Alastair approached him swiftly.
He bit into the man’s neck, causing him to scream. Alastair covered the man’s mouth while he drank deeply, but he suddenly felt a surge of conscience and released him.
“Monster! Monster!†the young man screamed, attempting to flee, but he stumbled, unsure of what to do. Alastair grabbed him, deciding to let him drink his blood in hopes of restoring what he had taken. After sharing his blood, Alastair was astonished to see the bite mark on the man’s neck heal. The young man stood and walked steadily, a look of bewilderment on his face.
“I don’t know whether to thank you, be angry, or just be scared,†the young man said, furrowing his brow at Alastair.
“You should be a vampire now too since I bit you,†Alastair replied, but then remembered he wasn’t a pure vampire, which likely explained why the man hadn’t transformed.
“Is this a prank? Where’s your camera? Are you a content creator? A vlogger?†The young man’s rapid-fire questions irritated Alastair.
“Can I bite you again?†Alastair asked, and the young man nodded.
“Can you believe it? This prank feels so real—like you’re pretending to be a vampire, biting me with some fake fangs you bought online, and I scream in fear while you make me drink your blood, and then you remove my fake wounds from my neck. Am I right? But the bite feels too real. This content of yours is really something; it’s actually very uncanny! Halloween is coming, so I guess that’s why you decided to do this,†he rambled on, further aggravating Alastair.
Irritated, Alastair bit him again, but after five minutes, nothing happened. He tried once more. The young man was gasping, teetering on the edge of death.
“This prank is intense, it feels so real,†he rasped. Alastair’s venom coursed through the young man’s body, and soon, he succumbed to the effects of the bite. Alastair panicked, planning to dispose of the body where no one would find it, but then, to his shock, the young man came back to life, convulsing as if possessed or having an epileptic seizure.
Alastair dropped him in surprise. The young man gasped, his eyes suddenly glowing red, and he took deep breaths.
“What did you do to me?†he croaked.
“I made you a vampire, or something else—whatever,†Alastair replied with a mix of pride and dread.
“It feels like… like my muscles are burning away.†The young man’s body was emitting smoke. Suddenly, Alastair realized he was exposed to the sun’s rays. He quickly lifted him and carried him back to Blaze’s manor.
He poured water for the young man, who drank an entire container before he could catch his breath.
“What happened?†Blaze asked, descending the stairs.
“I bit him multiple times out of curiosity about what would happen,†Alastair admitted, and Blaze raised his brows, grinning.
“If a human is bitten by a hybrid—â€
“Tribrid! I also have witch blood!†Alastair interjected.
“Right. If a human is bitten by a hybrid or tribrid like you, it’s impossible for them to become a true hybrid or tribrid because they can’t endure your venom. They will die shortly unless they drink your blood after being bitten, otherwise, they won’t survive,†Blaze explained. That explained a lot, no wonder the young fat man was still alive.
“What could be the outcomes?†Alastair asked curiously.
“Congratulations, you’ve successfully created a hybrid or tribrid human being with traits of a vampire, werewolf, and witch. They may not be strong enough to compete with pure supernatural beings, but if they can harness their abilities over time, they could become powerful,†Blaze said, leaving Alastair scratching his head in confusion. He thought that wasn’t such a bad outcome after all.
” The human might not fully transform but instead develop certain abilities or traits of the creature that bit them. For example, they might gain heightened senses, strength, or healing abilities without becoming a full supernatural being. Alternatively, they might become more susceptible to dark influences, turning into a thrall or servant of the creature. In some cases, a hybrid or tribrid bite could lead to unpredictable consequences. The human might develop unstable powers, becoming a mutated version of the creature or even gaining unique abilities that neither the human nor the creature originally possessed and…. being bitten by a powerful hybrid or tribrid could establish a sire or bond. The human or even some creatures might become linked to the creature, allowing the hybrid or tribrid to control them mentally or emotionally. †Blaze explained furthermore.
After one hour, the condition of the stocky young man improved.
“What is your name, by the way?†Alastair asked, glancing up at the surrounding trees before turning to him.
“Anthony,†he replied tersely, his gaze drifting back to the captivating sights around him as if enchanted.
“Is something wrong?†Alastair inquired again.
“Is something wrong? You turned me into a vampire, and then you ask me if something’s wrong? Is there something wrong with you?†Anthony exclaimed anxiously. “I’m hearing voices and noises around me—birdsong and insects buzzing. I can smell and see things with such clarity, I think I’m going insane! Oh no! Lord, help!†Anthony burst out.
“Did you forget that once you become a vampire, all your senses are enhanced?†Alastair said, looking directly at him.
“Oh, right! I didn’t know if this was a prank or if it was real, but no, this is definitely real. So, the folklore about vampires is true?†Anthony said, clearly amazed. ” most of the supernatural beings I know about are real, even werewolves, dwarves, and elves?”
“No, some of those were made-up story.” Blaze replied.
“Really?!†he exclaimed.
“Yes, how old are you now?†Alastair asked.
“I’m 14 years old,†he answered.
“Do you want to drink blood?†Alastair asked, shaking his head disapprovingly.
“Ew, no! Just the sight of blood makes me queasy,†Anthony said, frowning.
“So, you’re not craving blood at all?†Alastair asked, perplexed.
“Of course not! I actually want to eat. I’m hungry. Is there food around here?†Anthony said, and Alastair nodded.
Anthony stood up but was startled by his own speed, nearly losing his balance and almost falling. He attempted to run quickly out of the house and up to the third floor, then back down again, but he stumbled on the stairs. He got back on his feet immediately, unable to believe how fast he had moved.
“I’m really fast, but I’m clumsy. And my skin feels like it’s burning in the sunlight. Is this how it really is?†Anthony said, disbelief evident in his voice.
“You’ve got vampire speed, but you lack agility and precision. But, you’ll get the hang of it eventually,†Blaze said, preparing food. “You don’t need to run, just move normally but with speed until you get used to it.†Anthony followed Blaze’s advice, using his speed with each movement.
“You impress me, Anthony, you learn quickly,†Alastair said. Anthony scratched his neck.
“I’m so hungry. Let’s eat first,†Anthony suggested.
“Do you have parents, Anthony?†Alastair suddenly asked, and Anthony shook his head.
“They left me when I was still a child. I live with my grandmother, and my grandfather is also dead, so it’s just the two of us in our little hut,†he said, sighing deeply.
“My parents were killed by Gelle, the king of the Lycans,†he added, furrowing Alastair’s brow.
“Lycans?â€
“Those big monsters with wolf faces,†he explained, and Alastair fell silent, processing the information. Suddenly, a memory flashed in Anthony’s mind. As a child, he had seen a monster watching them from their window, looking like it wanted to devour him, its red eyes glowing fiercely. It vanished the next day after his grandmother scattered some strange plants around their hut. She fed him those unusual flowers every day until he grew up, at which point she stopped feeding him wolfsbane.
“I saw one of those when I was little!†Anthony exclaimed.
“Really? I haven’t yet,†Alastair replied.
“The food is ready,†Blaze announced, already digging in. He could sense Alastair’s thoughts racing at that moment, secretly pleased with whatever plans were brewing in his mind.
“Eat up, Anthony,†Alastair said authoritatively, and Anthony complied immediately. That was the effect of the sire bond.
Deciding to head home, Anthony was accompanied by Alastair. As he entered their hut, he found his grandmother lifeless in her bed. Overcome with grief, he wept while cradling her. Alastair quickly bit into the old woman’s neck and dripped his blood into her mouth. Moments later, she stirred, much to Anthony’s delight. Her eyes changed color briefly before returning to normal. To their astonishment, she began to appear younger, as if reverting to her youthful self.
“What happened to me? Anthony? My grandchild? Am I alive?!†Anthony’s grandmother exclaimed, staring in disbelief at her skin. She glanced in the mirror, screamed, and fainted.
“Are there vampires who faint like that?†Anthony remarked. Alastair averted his gaze, confused.
Alastair couldn’t believe what he had witnessed.
“Things are happening so damn quickly,†he whispered to himself, still in shock.
