Alastair, Anthony, and Aliyah headed to the locker room after class. Senior students passed by, trying to intimidate them as they put their things inside their lockers. The laughter and chatter filling the school created a buzz that made Alastair feel uneasy. They all looked surprised when they saw Giuseppe approaching wearing a black tuxeo.

“Hello?” Alastair said, unsure of what to say to Giuseppe.

“Hey! Good afternoon, my supernatural homies!” Giuseppe exclaimed, grinning, while Alastair rolled his eyes. “I just came here to see you’ll,” he continued, still smiling. Kai came running towards them, lugging a heavy bag filled with books he borrowed from the library.

“Are you seriously going to read all that?” Alastair asked, incredulous.

“Been reading books for centuries, so yeah,” Kai retorted with a grin.

“I didn’t know you were a student here too. Aren’t you too old for school, kiddo?” Giuseppe teased playfully, and they all chuckled.

“Shut up, Giuseppe,” Kai replied, laughing. “I just enrolled this morning. Plus, collecting graduation caps is fun!” Kai muttered. As they left the locker room, they decided to go to Rio’s class to drag him out.

Rio furrowed his brows as he heard Alastair and the others talking inside his mind.

“Get your ass over here,” Alastair said mentally, and Rio rolled his eyes.

“I’m still in class, you all are psycho,” Rio shot back.

“Who cares?” Alastair chuckled.

“Aren’t we gonna eat now?” Anthony’s voice echoed in Rio’s mind.

“Have you ever lost your appetite, Tony?” Kai interjected. “I guess you can literally manage to devour the entire campus without getting full.”

Rio stood up in the middle of class. His classmates all turned to look at him.

“Mrs. Richards, I need to go now,” he said sharply, loud and clear. Mrs. Richards lowered her glasses, narrowing her eyes.

“Okay, Mr. Donovan, go ahead,” she replied with a smile. Rio sighed in relief and stormed out of the classroom, joining Alastair and the others.

“You guys are insane, I was in the middle of class for crying out loud,” Rio said mentally, and they all laughed.

“Well, we were about to head to Meteora City,” Alastair said out loud.

“What’s the catch?” Rio asked.

“Nothing, just to chill and have some fun wandering the city,” Alastair chirped. He glanced at Giuseppe, who was staring at a wall graffiti like it was the most captivating thing he’d ever seen.

“I really like the design. I love it,” Giuseppe blurted out, and Alastair nodded in agreement.

“I like it too,” Rio added.

“Me neither,” Anthony chimed in absentmindedly.

Giuseppe’s mood suddenly shifted to a more serious tone.

“I ran into some lycans when I was in Meteora City last night,” Giuseppe said, catching everyone’s attention.

“And then what happened?” Alastair asked.

“Underground fight club. I managed to beat all of them,” Giuseppe said mentally. Aliyah’s eyes widened—she had already seen that club in one of her visions—and the man with a very dark aura. “They were trafficking supernatural creatures, forcing them to fight. Some were chained up, others were caged. I managed to free a few, but they had already lost their sanity. I didn’t know where to put those cracked-out supernaturals, so I ended up killing them,” Giuseppe added with a sigh.

“That’s wild,” Rio said, tapping Giuseppe on the shoulder.

Giuseppe nodded in response, about to tap Rio back, but stopped himself, realizing that if he touched people too often, he might unconsciously drain their energy. He crossed his arms instead.

“We still haven’t finished reading the second spellbook I borrowed from Aliyah’s mother,” Rio said. “We’ve learned some things we can use against lycans, but we need something stronger, without relying on dark forces or energy,” Rio continued, and they all nodded casually.

“Dude, we’re children of the moon, slaves to the night. Of course we can’t avoid using dark forces sometimes. But as long as we keep it under control, we’ll be fine.” Kai insisted matter-of-factly.

“You’re right,” Alastair agreed. “That’s why we shouldn’t forbid ourselves from practicing dark magic forever. I mean, we’re all going to hell anyway,” he said with a laugh, and they all chuckled along. His eyes slowly change to grey. He was trying to process what he just heard from Giuseppe.

As Alastair and the others roamed the bustling streets of Meteora, he sighed at the thought of seeing his mother. The only way to reach her was through the lycans who had abducted Giuseppe, living near Lunarville. He believed they were somewhat ready to face all of them.

“Are you okay?” Aliyah asked Alastair. He hummed in response.

“I think we’re strong enough to fight them,” Alastair declared. They sat down in the park, and Aliyah sighed at that possibility.

“You know what I like about Meteora? It’s neither too cold nor too warm; it’s perfectly in between. The sky is always cloudy, and the scenery is incredibly tantalizing,” Kai mused, and Rio and Giuseppe nodded in agreement.

“Are you even listening to me?” Alastair asked, looking at them. They all nodded in response.

“Of course we can,” Kai grinned. “Plus, we have Giuseppe. His ability may be exasperating, but it’s very useful.” Kai continued, and Rio agreed.

“We also have Blaze and Marco, and… Eddie,” Anthony added, and they all hummed in acknowledgment.

“I think we need to leave the adults alone to mind their own business,” Rio insisted, shifting his sitting position.

“I never thought about that, we’re literally overpowered already!” Alastair blurted out.

“I haven’t seen Blaze and Marco’s abilities yet,” Aliyah chirped.

“Let me guess, you haven’t read the Book of Supernatural Beings, have you?” Anthony asked, raising an eyebrow, and Aliyah shot him a look.

“Of course I did, but I’ve never seen them in person. They are legendary creatures that once ruled the Earth in ancient times,” Aliyah retorted.

“Do all supernatural beings have abilities or gifts of their own, aside from physical strength, enhanced senses, and speed?” Giuseppe asked, bewildered. Kai shook his head.

“Not all, but most. Those are just natural abilities that they discover over time, innate to them, which they harness to become more powerful…..For example, if you have vision, what could be your sub-abilities? You may able to share your vision or influence someone’s mind to see what you want them to see,” Kai explained. “Hybrids or tribrids possess two or more abilities that are inherent to them from the day they were born and many distinct abilities that connected to their natural abilities. ”

“What could be the distinct abilities of telepathy?” Rio blurted out.

“The most common is Mental penetration. You may able to view or hear their thoughts clearly, or worst, to control a person against their will, ” Kai elaborated, and Alastair’s eyes widened. “But in Alastair’s case, his ability is more profound and dangerous. He can link his psychic abilities to a large number of people, read their thoughts, and communicate with them mentally. If he learn to use it well, he might be able to manipulate them like puppets or control them for an extended period without breaking the link. If someone can manage to breaks the link, they will be freed,” Kai added.

“ We won’t gonna be doing any of that manipulation or controlling thing! ” Alastair professed firmly, and they all agreed.

“How did you know all that?” Giuseppe asked, intrigued.

” I read books, buddy,” Kai replied, chuckling.

“Do all vampires have a natural compulsion that can compel someone?” Giuseppe asked again, and Kai shook his head.

“Not all vampires, but that is one of the common abilities we might possess,” Kai answered, and Aliyah agreed.

“What could my distinct abilities be?” Giuseppe muttered, and Kai narrowed his eyes.

“Why do you want to know? Yours is already overpowered,” Kai mused, chuckling. Giuseppe frowned like a child. Kai laughed. “I’m just kidding, I guess I can teach you. That’s what I did with my foster siblings—to discover and harness their hidden abilities,” Kai said, and Giuseppe’s eyes sparkled.

“Kai, what is your gift? I’ve never seen you use one,” Rio prompted. Kai’s mood became serious.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” Kai replied dismissively.

“Why?” Alastair asked, curious.

“Mine is somewhat unique and not all vampires in the world posses this kind of ability,” Kai said with a laugh.

“Then what is it?” Rio pressed.

“I can only control animals and make them do what I want,” Kai finally admitted, and they all stared at him dumbfounded, and amused at the same time. Kai narrowed his eyes.

“What? That’s my ability,” he blurted.

“And what else can you do with them aside from that?” Giuseppe asked, blinking in curiosity.

“Well, I don’t know yet because I only use it when I get bored in the woods or to stop them from running away when I’m hunting for blood,” Kai continued. ” Who knows what else can I do after that. “

“Does the taste of human blood differ from that of animals in terms of strength?” Rio suddenly asked.

“It depends on the size, but humans and animals are just different forms of life. We share common DNA,” Kai explained.
