“…you used black magic to forget about Diana, didn’t you? ”

He sat up sleepily, rubbing his eyes with a sigh. “…so what? ” He grumbled, “…it was the easy way out. I should be angry at you for stopping it, but it’s hard to do so.”

She frowned, so he does remember what he tried to do. She scowled, standing up. “ Claude, black magic is forbidden for a reason. It has severe consequences, you could have died! ”

“…the curse I tried wasn’t all that bad.” The way he is now, Y/n felt the lack of pain his whole being. The agony of Diana’s death that weighed him down was not there, did something change?

She sighed, “…go wash up. I’ll ask the servants to prepare some dinner.”

Claude immediately reached out for her, holding her wrist and pulling her back towards him, “…wait! Don’t go.”

This…was a little too close. Y/n couldn’t process what was happening anymore. “ W-What—”

Claude’s expression faltered, “…why do you look so startled? We’ve held hands before.”

‘ Not like this…you’ve never looked at me with such desperation, no.’

She frowned, “…let go.”

Claude sighs, “…you’re mad at me, aren’t you? I’m sorry, I won’t do anything reckless again.” As he spoke, voice unusually gentle and soft, he pulled her close to hug her waist, while she remained frozen.

Her heart hammered the tighter his grip became, “…Claude? ” She gulped,
“ Who am I? ”

“…why are you asking such silly questions? You’re my wife, of course.” He smiled up at her, “…I’m too tired to have dinner. Can’t we just go to sleep, love? ”

“….”

“ What’s wrong? You’re worrying me, now. ” He pulled away, cupping her cheek, “ Y/n, I promised I won’t do anything like that again, so let it go.”

Her mind went blank the moment she felt his lips fall upon hers in a gentle peck, as if he had done so a thousand times, “ Come on, let’s just go to sleep.”

She gulped harshly, covering his eyes and pushing him back, “…I just came back from work. I’ll go wash up first.”

“ What? But it’s so late! Where were you—”

Y/n stumbled, leaning against the nearby wall once she couldn’t walk any further. There was a strange stir in her heart, too many emotions surfaced and collided against each other.

“…your majesty? ” Felix frowned, rushing to her side, “ What’s wrong? Does something hurt? ”

“ Felix.”

Felix paused, the empty look in her teary eyes making his heart hammer,
“ What’s wrong? ” He mumbled cautiously, “ Did…something happen to him? ”

“…he’s strange. He’s acting as if he likes…” She gulped, “…he kissed me. Do you think he’s mistaking me for
Diana? ”

“….”

“ Tell me! What should I do? ” She sighed heavily, leaning against his chest, “…but it’s weird. He spoke as if he was aware Diana is no more. He called me by my name, but his…actions are different. ”

“…maybe he just missed you.”

“…Felix, ” she laughed dryly, “ We both know he has never even looked my way. Not with affection, no.” She sighed shakily, “…call that magician first thing in the morning.”

“…yes. For now, please get some rest.”

She nodded tiredly, “..I should go to my room. Keep…him here, please? ”

Felix smiled reassuringly, though he tried to hide the pain, “…I’ll take you to your room, first. ”

“…it’s been so long. Why won’t she come back? ”

Felix gaped for a good while. This…definitely wasn’t Claude. He has never seen Claude roll around on his bed and whine that Y/n won’t come back to him.

As Y/n said, something has changed drastically. “ Your Majesty, ” He began cautiously, “…do you remember what kind of relationship you had with Her Majesty? ”

Claude stopped, “…everyone’s acting so strange. Why are you asking me that? You should know since you’ve followed us along to our every date.” He sat up, “…did I upset her too much? ”

Felix chuckled nervously, “ That’s right. How could I forget how much of a romantic couple you both are….? ”

‘…they’ve never been on a single date.’

“ That’s right.” Claude glared at him, “…we were just fine but now she’s mad about something. What should I do to make up with her? ”

He sighed, “…she loves lavender tea, doesn’t she? I’ll make it myself and bring it to her tomorrow—”

“ Your Majesty.”

“…mhm? ”

“ Your Majesty and the Empress…” Felix couldn’t bring himself to say it directly, so he switched his words, “…when did you start courting her? ”

Claude frowned, “ It was when I killed my brother, don’t you remember? I asked her to marry me right away. I mean, I planned to court her way before that, but I had no power and I was worried she would be in danger.”

Claude huffed, “ So I immediately asked her to marry me and much to my surprise, she said yes.”

Claude’s bright and beaming face would probably burn in his memory, Felix couldn’t believe this. All his memories were there, but they were altered.

He never courted Y/n, he asked her to marry him out of necessity. To strengthen his rule, he needed an empress and it was only an agreement. Up until now, there has been no romantic affection between them, not once…

Though he has known Y/n adores Claude a lot, she never once made it obvious. 

Claude right now acted as if he and Y/n were a loving couple, then…

“ What about Lady Diana? ”

“…wasn’t she just a concubine? What is with you, seriously? ” Claude groaned, “…tell me why Y/n is mad at me.”

“…Sire, Lady Diana passed away a month ago due to childbirth.”

“ Goodness, I know. ” Claude grumbled, “…I really liked her and it’s sad that she has died. I went batshit crazy and used black magic to forget her and all that..but now that I think about it, it doesn’t sound so serious.”

Felix stared blankly ahead of him, “…what about your daughter? What do you remember? ”

Claude paused, “….I haven’t seen her yet. N/n told me once she looks just like Diana…” He sighed, “…will you drop your interrogation? Tell me how I can make up to her. ”

Felix heaved out a shaky sigh, “…why don’t you rest first? We can think of it in the morning.”

“ Mhm…okay.” Claude pulled his blanket to his chin, “…ugh, I miss her.”
