Milo
“I’m going out for groceries, if you want something then tell me.” I shout as I shove my foot into my boots.
It was just a few days before Thanksgiving, so I figured that I should go out and buy some food for the house so when we come back from Thanksgiving, there would be some food.
“I’ll come with you, I’ve got a few things I wanna get.”
Damien’s voice emerges from the corner before I see him. He slips on shoes that he left by the door and a coat that was on the coat hanger.
I opened the door and saw snow dancing along the wind, as grey clouds covered the sky. The ground was painted white with snow, along with all the cars in sight.
Before I could take a step, I felt a hand grab me by the coat and zipping me up. Realizing it was Damien, I felt blood traveling to my cheeks. Even though it was something so simple as just zipping my coat, I couldn’t help but let a warm smile take my lips in this cold air.
“Don’t want my ride catching a cold.” He finished zipping up my coat, as the ends of his lips curled before taking the lead of walking to my car.
Calm down Milo, it’s nothing. He’s being nice, nothing more than that.
We get in the car and I immediately turn on the heat. I let the heat explore the car before driving off, which get a few questions from a perplexed Damien, but obviously he’s never driven a car in the cold before. Always warm the car up before driving off.
Eventually we arrive at Walmart and go inside. We decided to go our separate ways and meet up at the fruit and vegetables area once we’re done.
“Ok…” I pull out the piece of paper with the list of groceries. “Milk, eggs, bread, gatorade, water…” I continue reading off the long list. This is going to be a lot of groceries.
As I walked around the store for food and other essentials, I felt like I was being watched. Like someone had been following behind me, but when I would turn around I saw no one, or just people minding their own business getting groceries.
I continued to get what I came here for, but I kept my guard up. I wasn’t totally sure if I was being watched, or I’ve been watching too many horror documentaries and was being paranoid.
As I grabbed bread from the shelf someone bumped into me, causing me to drop it. Turning around, my mood worsened. It was Nathan.
“Excuse you.”
He turned, and saw who I was. “It’s you. I never did get your name.” A mini smirk pulled his lips, like he was mocking me. I felt my eye twitch from irritation.
“Milo.”
“Right, the guy my boyfriend lives with.” He said ‘my’ with a demanding tone, as if he owned and claimed Caleb.
I felt jealousy flow throughout my entire system as I stared at his supposably charming smile. This was the guy Caleb had choosen, I couldn’t help but hate him with a burning passion. For more reasons than one. He definitely doesn’t treat Caleb right, I’ve seen the type of messages he sends Caleb, I haven’t seen a lot but I’ve seen enough to want to put a restraining order against him.
“If he’s your boyfriend, then why doesn’t he talk about you? Why doesn’t he hang out with you?”
He stays silent, and his smile slowly falters. He was clearly getting more irritated with me by the second.
And I enjoyed seening his stupid smile fade.
“Why are you even with him, you and I already know you treat him like shit. I don’t understand what he sees in guy like you.”
I truly don’t know why Caleb is still with him, he’s an asshole. And who knows what this asshole has done to Caleb.
“It doesn’t matter, he’s mine.”
“He was mine first.” I blurted before immediately looking away, I didn’t mean to say that. I shouldn’t have said that.
“What?”
“N—Nothing.” My heart rate increased drastically.
“Are you one of his ex’s?”
I definitely shouldn’t have said that. Fuck.
“Answer me.”
“It’s none of your concern. I need to go.” As I attempted to leave he grabbed me and I immediately slapped his hand away. “Don’t touch me.”
“You like him, don’t you?”
“No”
“Liar.” He eyes narrowed before his signature smile formed his lips, “I can tell you do, just from how protective and possessive you’ve been acting.”
“…Do you even love him? Or are you just using him for your amusement? Be honest, and I’ll be honest to you about my feelings towards him “
“Alright then, for my amusement. I know who he cares about, and he’ll do whatever I say to keep them safe. And Ill do whatever it takes to keep it that way.” I then watch him slightly pull up his shirt showing the gun half way tucked into his pants, my eyes widens. Fear overwhelms me as I realized what Caleb was dealing with.
He walks closer and leans in my ear, “Say anything to anyone, and Ill blow his head clean off before any type of police gets to me.” He pull away and take a few steps back. “So, your turn to share.”
“I… I—”
I was terrified, anxious to say my next few words. Wondering if they were going to be my last.
I told him I would tell the truth and I will. Even if they are my last words.
I draw in a deep breath, “I— I love him… I love Caleb.” I say, no longer making eye contact, my eyes squeezed shut, physically and mentally preparing myself.
A hand lands on my shoulder, I gasp in sharp breath as my eyes jolt open. Thinking it was Nathan, but it was Damien. With an unpleasant expression as he glared daggers at Nathan. Reassurance washed through my body.
“What’s going on?” Damien harshly demanded, his grip on my shoulder more firm as he pulled me ever so slightly closer.
“Nothing, we were just talking.” Nathan walked past us, his gazing sitting on me longer than necessary. After a few seconds I turned around and he was gone.
“Are you ok?” Damien asked he, his voice completely different from seconds ago. I looked up at him, his expression full of confusion and worry. “I was texting you and you wouldn’t reply so I was kinda getting worried. And I found you froze while talking to him.”
“Yea, I’m good, he just surprised me is all.”
“Milo.” He said sternly, which surprised me a bit.
“Don’t think I’m stupid, you don’t freeze up easily. What happened?”
