Damien
I use my key and unlock the door to my home before I moved away for college. I take a deep breath before letting it out and opening the door.
“I’m home!” I shout, letting anyone who was in the house know that I’m here. My mother was strict on manners, I have to announce to everyone that I’m in the house or she would scold me. Which I always thought was pointless because they’ll eventually see me.
But I didn’t really like hearing my mom complain about my terrible manners.
“Hey Damien!” My uncle walked down the hallway with his hand out and we dapped up. “How’s one of my favorite nephews?”
“Good, tired, but good.” I responded as we walked further into the house until we were in the living, where most of the rest of my family were.
“It was Damien ya’ll.” My uncle said to the rest of my family, who turned their head and immediately recognized me. But who wouldn’t, I wouldn’t be surprised if they knew my social security because of my mom and dad.
My mom brags about how good and smart I turned, while my dad brags about how good of a man he raised. So I’m not surprised if one of the slipped up and told my social security.
“Damien! You didn’t call and tell me you were on the way.” My mom snappishly voiced.
“I texted you, saying I was on my way.”
I didn’t want to hear her voice, I haven’t even thought about calling her since that day. She pissed me off so much that day, that I’m still pissed off with her to this day.
“The food is almost done, so why don’t you sit down with your family.” My mom suggests with a smile, I obey and sit in down in one of the few seats left.
“Where are the rest of my cousins?” I inquire as I look around, since my aunts and uncle were here, I assumed my cousin’s would be here as well.
“They’re in the backyard.” One of my aunts announced to me, which causes me to stand, but I was immediately stopped by my father who sat me back down.
“Where are you going?” My father quirked a brow at me. I gesture to the back door. His grip on me tenses as his stare lingers on me longer that I’m comfortable with.
“No where.” I responded and his grips looses.
“I was just about to talk about how you were the best football player on your highschool team before you came in. You were varsity, and during your senior year you were the captain of the team.” He bloats as he watch my relatives brows raise in shock. “Of course it was because of your old man, if it wasn’t for me you probably wouldn’t have even gotten varsity.”
Here he goes, he talks about all my achievements and then proceeds to make it about him and how if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have done anything. It’s basically a backhanded compliment.
I roll my eyes as I pull out my phone and begin to pull out our group chat, which is Me, Cameron, Caleb, Milo, and Noelle.

“Damien, you’ve been on the phone for a while? Who are you talking to? You’re girlfriend?” My aunt asks with a small smirk and quirked brow.
“They broke up sadly, Velvet I think her name was. She was a nice girl.” My mom added a sigh, “But of course they broke up, she was too good for him.”
“Great, thanks mom for making me feel like your loved son.” I push up off the sofa and storm upstairs to te bathroom, shutting the door. Annoyance and frustration pumping my blood.
I hate being here, I wish I never agreed to come to this stupid Thanksgiving. I move out for a reason, why would I ever want to come back to this shitty house?
