A+ A-

Caleb

Thanksgiving was over, and school was going to start back in 3 days. I definitely wasn’t ready to start going back to school, but I still had a degree to get.

But I wasn’t worried about that right now,I wanted to see Milo.

I set my coat and things on the head of the sofa. I spot Damien on the other sofa sleep. He had no blanket on him and he looked cold. I went upstairs to my room and snag him a random blanket since I had 3 on my bed before going back to Damien.

His eyes are gently closed as his phone is held in his hand next to his face. His mouth just barely opened as he slept peacefully.
I smiled at him and draped the fuzzy blanket over him, subconsciously he shift to be more comfortable with the blanket over him and warming up his body.

I kneeled down next to him, my buttocks resting on my calves. My face mere inches away from his. I haven’t been close to his face like this in a while. He looked so content and peaceful sleeping.

“I wonder what he’s dreaming about.” I whisper to myself, but was startled by a response.

“That’s a good question, I don’t remember.” His eyes fan open and immediately I was met with his deep emerald eyes that I could stare into for hours on end. I was so focused on his eyes, I almost didn’t notice his faint smile as he stared at me.

“S-Sorry, did mean to wake you.” I used my hand to pull my self up but was pulled down to the floor.

“No, stay.” He said, not letting go of my hand, he let his fingers intertwine with mine. I was froze, and not because of how cold it was. The way his hand warmed mine, and how tight he held me would make anyone’s face turn colors.

“Did you come back last night? Or did you arrive this morning?”

“I came back last night.”

“Oh? How come?”

“My parents, they… didn’t make me feel great when I arrived.” He’s gaze moved and he looked somewhere else. I could hear the sadness and disappointment in his tone. “So I didn’t even stay for dinner.”

“You were alone for thanksgiving?”

“Mainly, yea. But It’s alright.” He reassured, but a frown gently pulled the ends of my lips down.

“No it really isn’t. Thanksgiving is meant to be spent with family, not alone.” I said in a distraught manner, “Are you ok? Really, are you?”

Before I could say anything else, the door was being unlocked and opened. I expected it to be Cameron, but to my somewhat surprise I watched Milo appear.

“Oh, you two are here.” He said, sounding genuinely surprised to see us. But also looked as if he didn’t know what to do. I’m sure he knows we saw his message last night.

“I’ll- uh, be going then-”

“No, come over here.” I tell him as he attempts to leave. He sits his things down and walks over to us. He sits down next to me, looking down at his lap before taking in a deep breath.

“You guys saw the message I’m guessing. And I know it sounds weird coming from me, but you guys are important to me and I know you guys are going through something. I want you you know that I’m here if either of you ever need to talk, or I don’t know- if you need a shoulder to cry on.” He fiddles with his fingers like a nervous child, as he looks up at the two of us.

Damien sits up on the sofa, letting go of my hand as he wraps the blanket around himself.

“… I want to tell you guys about Nathan.” Both of them look at me, awkwardly I look down at my hands.

“Nathan and I met years ago. During the beginning of our relationship everything was going well. He treated me well, and genuinely liked me. But after a few months he changed, he would yell at me, threaten me, and blackmail me. He dropped out of highschool and tried to force me to drop out as well. He accused me of cheating, and a lot of other things, I tried to explain and work through everything because I thought we were just out of our honeymoon stage but soon I realized he was just a changed person. I told him I wanted to break up, but he… he wouldn’t let me.

He threaten to… kill me if I ever broke up with him, and since then he’s always had control over me. He would threaten everyone I cared about, I gave him what he wanted to keep everyone I loved safe. From stealing what I didn’t have, to having sex with him. It just felt like an endless cycle that I was forever stuck in. And it still feels like that, he won’t leave me alone. That day he came over, I didn’t invite him, he somehow found my location. When he followed me upstairs he pulled his gun out on me and threaten to kill me… I act like I don’t care about his threats, but in reality I’m genuinely scared that one day he will pull his gun out and I’ll be gone.

I-I don’t want to die. But I’ve been so scared to tell anyone. My parents don’t even know about him, I just don’t know what to say or tell them. How am I supposed to tell my parents that any day that their oldest son could die? How am I supposed to tell anyone that? What can I do, he has me wrapped around his stupid ass finger and I don’t know what to do.”

Tear blurred my vision, as I tried to blink them away they poured down my cheeks and was stuck in my lashes.

I used my hands to wipe away my tears but more would pour down my cheeks no matter how much I would wipe them away.

After seconds of me miserably trying to dry my face, I felt my hand’s being removed and replaced by someone else’s.

Opening my eyes, both of them were in front of me crouched with eyes of worry and distress.

“I knew you were in pain because, but I didn’t know he has put you through all of that.” Milo’s fingers gently dried up my face, wiping all the water that fell from my face. “I’m so sorry you’re going through all that.”

“It’s fine-“

“No it’s not, he’s done fucked up shit to you, and still is. He deserves to be in prison for the shit he made you endure. I promise that I’ll protect you from that bastard if he ever comes around again, ok Caleb? You don’t have to ever worry about him ok?” Damien face looks heartsick, and distraught as he stared at me. His warm hands hold mine tighter than earlier.

My heart pounds against my rib cage. I’ve been trying to deny it for weeks, but I don’t think I can deny it. I’ve fallen. Mamá was right. I fell for them. I love them.

“I swear I’ll beat the fuck out of him if I ever see his ass again, and then I make sure his ass ends up in the coldest fucking cell the prison has.” Damien angrily threatens in a menacingly bone-chilling tone, full of nothing but pure hatred. From the look on Milo’s face, it was gonna be a duo activity.

A faint smile hooks my lips

I was ok, I was safe from Nathan, because they’ll protect me.
