Milo
There’s talking, but it’s drowned out. I feel several arms around me, hands gently caressing my body. My eyes flutter open, the room is dark, the only light source being the TV. I see Damien in front of me, his arm wrapped around me as he lays on his side, his other hand propping his head up. My guess is Caleb is behind me, his arm is also around me, his hand gently caressing my chest.
I let out a yawn, which makes Damien look down and realize that I’m awake.
“Someone’s awake.” Damien said lowly, his eyes flickering up at Caleb then back down to me.
“Good Morning?” I mutter rubbing my eyes as I sit up and stretch my arms out.
“No, it’s still night hun.” Said Caleb as he sat up in the bed, pressing a kiss to my temple.
“Oh.” I yawn again, “When did we leave the hospital?”
“A few hours ago. You took a long nap. Surprisingly you didn’t wake up when I brought you inside or changed you.” Damien said as he sat up, stretching his arms as well before also kissing my skin.
“Yea, I’ve been tired recently, from school and other shit.”
The room eventually fell silent. The silence wasn’t awkward or uncomfortable. It felt comforting. This was the first time in weeks we all shared a bed. So I was glad. No yelling, no arguing, nothing, just me and my boyfriends in bed together.
“Thank you Milo.” Caleb spoke amongst the silence. I looked at him confused.
“For what?”
“If it weren’t for you, I’m sure the three of us wouldn’t be together in bed right now.” He explained, his hand sneakily intertwined with mine.
“I just did what needed to be done. There’s no need to thank me for it.”
“Well it’s not just that, thank you for everything.”
I was confused. What is he talking about. And why is he thanking me? I haven’t done anything that’s worth thanking me for.
“I haven’t done much, I don’t know why you’re thanking me.”
“To us you have.” Damien chimed in, kissing me again as he locked his hand with mine. “You’ve done a lot for us, whether you think so or not. Even when you’re struggling you still be your stupid selfless self.”
“Thank… you?” I questioned, wondering if what Damien said was an actual compliment.
“Actually I’ve been wondering for a while. What happened between camp and you moving in here?”
Caleb announced. “You already know what happened to Damien and Me, what about you? I’m sure something interesting happened.”
“Are you sure you want to know?”
“If you don’t want to tell us, you don’t have to hun. I’m not trying to force you.”
“No, it’s ok. I think you guys should know.” I say before taking a deep breath. “After camp I remember, trying to get over you guys. It technically wasn’t a break up, but it felt like it. As much as I tried, it wouldn’t work, and I came to the realization that the two people that I care about the most are gone. I assume you guys forgot about me, or didn’t care anymore. I hated thinking that you guys didn’t care for me and move on forgetting about me so at night I would cry until I fell asleep. Eventually everything around me felt pointless, I started to hate myself, and I slowly slipped into depression. My mom noticed and took me to therapy and helped me get out more.
My mom had gotten a boyfriend towards the end of my junior year. He was nice to her, and treated her well. But he hated me. At first he ignored me, but then he got more aggressive, yelling at me for no reason, taking my things away. Then he began to get physical and would hit me when my mom wasn’t around. He threatened to hurt my mom if I said anything. He said the bruises were from me when I would go out and parkour. And my mom believed him. Eventually I told my mom, but she wouldn’t believe it. I told her twice, and she still wouldn’t believe me. I thought that was gonna be my life until I moved out. But on Christmas during my senior year, I told my mom to come home late. So she would see what her boyfriend does when she’s not home.
I remember this part so vividly… he came into my room at night and instead of hitting me, he genuinely tried to kill me…”
***Flashback***
The door was shut, and the room was pitch black, the only light source was the light from the moon, which wasn’t a lot of light. I could barely see my own hands in front of me.
Before I knew it I was grabbed by my shirt and thrown against the closet, my back hitting the door nob.
“Wh-What do you want-” I gasped in pain from my back hitting the knob of my closet.
“I want you out of my life. And out of her life.” I was knee’d in my stomach, I immediately fell to the floor in pain, clutching my stomach as I took shallow breaths
“It’s like you mock me. My brother is in his prison because of you!”
“What are you-” He grabbed me by the collar, picking me up and once again he shoved me into the wall. My head hit the wall hard. I felt my head throbbing as I tried to focus my vision on him.
“I hate you, I hate you so fucking much!” He shouted.
My eyes finally adjusted to the darkness of the room and I saw the pure anger and hatred in his eyes. It was terrifying, and caused shivers to travel down my spine.
His hands clenched around my throat, and I couldn’t muster a breath. I under my fingers and clawed at his grip around my throat, I tried to kick him but after a minute or two the lack of air started to get to me.
“I swear I’m gonna leave no traces of you.” He squeezed tighter as a grin grew on his face.
“Didn’t the same thing happen to you at that camp?” He then laughed, “Guess I’m finishing my brothers’ job.”
Black spots slowly started forming in my vision from the lack of air. His grip tightened.
Fuck, is this how I’m gonna die?
Just as the dark circles completely took over my vision I heard the door burst open, and I was immediately dropped to the floor. I coughed, and desperately took in sharp breaths as I regained my vision.
“Honey?! I-I can explain!” Darryl shouted, the fear and worry in his voice was spiking in his tone.
“What the fuck are you doing!? That is my fucking son!” My mom screamed, I looked over at her and I saw the bat in her hand.
“P-Put the bat-bat down mom.” I stood up, holding my neck, still coughing from just being released moment prior. I can’t let her kill him. She might be the one to go to jail.
“I am going to fucking kill you.” She propped the bat in her free and and began to walk over to Darryl and me. Just as she lifted the bat and swung it, Darryl snatched me in front of him. And there was pain for a split second before everything went dark.
