DING! DING! DING!

An alarm rang in the Uzumaki household. “Akashi, turn it off!” Naruto groaned from the other bed and threw a pillow at the alarm clock. Akashi, already knowing that Naruto will throw a pillow, jumped out of bed and caught the pillow before it could hit the alarm clock. “Naruto! I told you countless times! Don’t destroy the clock, we always have to waste the little money we have!” Akashi scolded the still sleepy Naruto.

“Get up, we’re eating breakfast”. He pulled Naruto by the leg out of the bed. “Noo! Kakashi-sensei told us not to eat, so I’m not eating!” He struggled and was finally let go. Akashi was fuming on the side. “Fine! But don’t come running to me once you grow hungry later on!”

After quickly eating breakfast, Akashi dragged Naruto to the field where they decided to meet with Kakashi.

The four of them met up, but Kakashi arrived hours later.

Kakashi appeared as if he wasn’t late and said he had to take the long way because a black cat crossed his path. He then cleared his throat and pulled out an alarm. “The alarm is set at 12 pm, you need to get these bells from me”. He said as he pulled out bells from his pocket. “Those who don’t get a bell will be tied up and watch as the others eat breakfast”.

Hearing this, Akashi turned to Naruto and pointed a finger at him. “Aha! I told you to eat!” Naruto huffed. “You ate breakfast even when sensei said not to?!” Sakura screeched from the side. Akashi gave her a side-glance. “Of course, we are ninjas, we need food to function to the best of our abilities”.

He’s smart. Kakashi clapped his hands. “Well done, that’s correct!” He cheerily exclaimed. “Those who don’t get the bells will also be sent back to the academy, you can use your shuriken and if you don’t come at me with the intent to kill, you won’t be able to get these bells”. Naruto started grinning. “Says the guy who couldn’t dodge a board eraser!”

“Just ignore the guy with the lowest score”. Kakashi said nonchalantly. Naruto instantly grew annoyed and reached for his kunai. Grabbing the kunai, Naruto dashed at Kakashi. Kakashi disappeared and appeared behind Naruto, holding Naruto’s hand with the kunai, and pointed it at Naruto’s head. “I didn’t say start yet”.

He’s fast! What do I do? I must think of a plan.

“Ready! Start!”

Everyone hid…everyone except Naruto of course. He was standing in the middle of the field, telling Kakashi to fight him one-on-one. Akashi saw what was happening. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Kakashi quickly disposed of Naruto by sending him flying into the lake. Naruto got out of the lake and used clone technique to create clones and attacked Kakashi. Just as when it seemed he was going to win, Kakashi changed places with one of Naruto’s clones. Naruto then hit his clone instead and chaos started.

Akashi was hidden high up on a tree, waiting for an opportunity to get a bell.

Standing on the branch, Akashi was looking all around for any sign of Kakashi. After a few minutes, he sensed chakra nearby. Shit! Jumping to the side, he dodged a kunai. “Not bad, Akashi”. Kakashi’s voice rang out from all around him. I’m in a genjutsu. Using the chakra in his body, he expelled it out. The usage of that amount of chakra managed to break Akashi out of the genjutsu.

Reaching for a kunai, he looked around. Guess I’ll need to use that. Closing his eyes, he focused his chakra and his senses. After a moments time, he was able to track the chakra signatures from 10 meters away. Sensing movement to the side, he quickly throws his kunai that way. After a second a clank was heard. “Oh, really not bad”. Kakashi walked out behind a tree. Akashi went into position and waited for him to get closer. Once Kakashi was a few feet away, he dashed to Akashi, kunai at hand.

Akashi side-stepped and deflected the kunai blow with his own kunai. The force of the hit made him jump back. Just as Kakashi was about to dash at him again, Akashi did hand signs. “Wind Release: Air Current Wild Dance!” Kakashi’s eyes widen as he steps back. The wind technique made all the dust around them to raise up and made it hard to see through. This was ideal for Akashi, who can sense nearby chakra.

“That’s a strong technique there, where did you learn it?” Kakashi asked. “In the village library technique section, I read”. Akashi flatly responded. Focusing on the chakra, he lengthened his range of sight. Now he could clearly see Kakashi’s movements through the dust. Kakashi threw a shuriken at Akashi and Akashi easily deflected it, but he barely noticed an explosion seal on top of it. The force of the explosion cleared the dust away and threw Akashi onto his back.

“Heh, so now seals are also allowed right?” Akashi let out a humorless chuckle. “You know what seals are?” Asked Kakashi while walking towards him. Akashi stood up and grabbed his arm, which he hurt when he landed on it. “I’m an Uzumaki, of course I know”. With a grin, he raised his hands. Kakashi’s eyes widen, but before he could react, Akashi activated a seal right under Kakashi. “You underestimated me just because Naruto is my brother, didn’t you?” Akashi asked as he stalked towards a struggling Kakashi. The seal he used trapped Kakashi in place.

“You know of the Uzumaki?” Kakashi stopped struggling and instead decided he should interrogate Akashi. “I read about them a while back, also about their abilities, so I tried to see if I could do them and surprise, surprise, I could, so I figured it out, but the thing I don’t understand is why Naruto has blond hair”. So he doesn’t know who his parents are yet, that’s a relief. When Akashi was close enough, he reached for the bells that were hanging on Kakashi, but before he could grab them, Kakashi disappeared in a puff of smoke.

His eyes widened in alarm and he jumped back, but he was too late. Kakashi appeared behind him and pointed a kunai at his head. “You know, if that was the real one, you would have got me”. Akashi clicked his teeth. “Shadow Clone, of course, they have their own chakra don’t they?” Kakashi nodded.

“Also, how did you prepare a seal so fast?” Kakashi removed the kunai from Akashi’s neck. “I always prepare then in advance, so I can just place them where I need to, otherwise it can take time”.

“Let me guess, you sent a shadow clone my way while you dealt with those three right?” Akashi took a step back and crossed his arms. Kakashi scratched his head. “Yes, let’s go, time ran out a while ago”.

Once they reached the other three, Akashi noticed Naruto tied to a wooden block. “Naruto…” Akashi let out a sigh. He goes and sits down between Sasuke and Sakura.

“By the way, about the results of this training…None of you need to return to the academy”. He declared. Naruto lets out a happy sound and Sakura was confused. “Huh? All I did was faint, was that okay?” A moment later she started jumping up and down out of excitement. “Does that mean we four…?” Naruto trailed off.

“Yeah, that means you four…should quit being ninjas!” Kakashi yelled.

“What do you mean!?” Naruto started struggling while tied up. “Because you are just kids who don’t deserve to be ninjas”. Sasuke, at those words, narrowed his eyes and dashed at Kakashi, but before he could even attack, Kakashi had him on the ground and sat on him. “See? You are all just kids”.

“You didn’t understand the answer to the test or why you’re all in teams”. Don’t tell me. Akashi’s eyes widen. Kakashi noticed that he figured out the answer. “Akashi, would you like to say the answer?” Kakashi beckoned with his hand. “You’re kidding, right? Teamwork? Is that it?” At Akashi’s words, everyones eyes widen, except Kakashi’s.

“Sakura! Even when Naruto was right in front of you, you cared more about Sasuke, without even knowing where he was!”

“Naruto! All you did was work on you own!” Naruto clenched his teeth.

“Akashi! You were the one who came closest to the bell, but you relied too much on your own strength!”

Kakashi looked down at Sasuke. “And you assumed that those three were only going to burden you and did everything yourself”. Kakashi got up from Sasuke and walked over to a huge stone. “Look at this, the numerous names carved into this stone, all those names are names of those who were praised as heroes in our village”

“I’ve decided that I want my name carved into that”. Naruto excitedly declared, still tied up on the wooden block. Akashi turned to Naruto in alarm. “Naruto! That sto-“. Akashi was interrupted. “On that stone are the names of those who were K.I.A.”. Naruto let out a confused whine. “K.I.A.?” Sakura shook her head. “Killed in action”.

“I’ve decided I will give you one more chance, eat up, but don’t give anything to Naruto, or else I will fail you immediately”. He then disappeared.

When the three of them took out their food, Naruto whined. “Akashi! Didn’t you eat already? How come you have lunch right there?” Akashi grabbed his lunch and walked over to Naruto. “I will feed you”. Sakura stood up in alarm. “If you feed him we will fail!” Sasuke shook his head and also gave his lunch to Naruto. “I don’t sense him nearby and it’s going to be a bother if he is hungry when we try to get the bells”. Sakura let out a sigh and also gave Naruto her lunch.

The moment she was about to feed him, a blast of wind appeared. Kakashi came. He did a hand sign and a storm appeared over their heads. “Any last words?” Kakashi asked in all seriousness. Naruto’s panicked voice broke the tension. “But you said we are a team!” “A four man team right!?” Sasuke added. “Yes we four are one!” Sakura stood up.

Kakashi glared at them and then looked at Akashi. “Together”.

“You pass!” Kakashi cheerily declared and the weather cleared. Everyone let out an audible ‘huh!?’

“In the world of ninja, those who break the rules are scum, but those who leave their friends are worse then scum”. He said as he was looking at the sky, hints of pain in his visible eye.

“Let’s go”. He said as he started walking away. Sakura and Sasuke followed him and Naruto was left tied to the block. “Hey! Don’t forget about me!” He yelled after them. Akashi shook his head at Naruto’s antics. “Naruto, I’m still here!” He shouted out of frustration. Naruto’s eyes widen. “HUH!? How do you always disappear like that!?” He questioned with squinted eyes.

“I don’t disappear, you just don’t pay attention”. Akashi released Naruto from the block and the two of them headed home.
