Kakashi was worried about Akashi, the boy was quiet… too quiet. He knew the boy for less than a week, but he already knew how he normally acts and this is not normal. Granted, the boy did kill for the first time in his life, but he didn’t even ask Kakashi about anything, he just stopped talking. Even when Naruto tried to talk to him, he responded with a grunt or an almost invisible nod.

Tazuna explained that a man named Gatoh was after him, the man wanted to stop the bridge from being built. Kakashi decided that they were still going to escort him. After that, they started going the way Tazuna’s house was. As they were walking through the forest, Naruto suddenly ran ahead of them and threw a kunai at a bush. The others were perplexed, but Akashi just furrowed his brows, confusion written clear on his face.

Naruto then said he saw something and threw another kunai, but this time at another bush. Sakura, growing annoyed at his antics, walked up to him and hit him on the back of the head. “I told you to stop!” She shouted after she hit him, her clenched fist in the air. Naruto rubbed his head. “But I really did see someone”. He explained. Behind them, Akashi was looking intently at the bush where Naruto aimed.

Kakashi walked behind the bush and saw a white rabbit quivering, the kunai just barely missed its head and impaled the tree trunk over it. Seeing this, Sakura turned to Naruto. “Naruto! Look what you’ve done!” She angrily exclaimed. Naruto started hugging the rabbit and apologizing. Akashi was still confused. A snow rabbit? What’s it doing here? Kakashi turned to Akashi and noticed the boy was focused on the rabbit. Good to see his perception skills aren’t affected by what happened.

On the other hand, Akashi was looking intently at a tree, not far from where they were standing. There’s someone there, but their chakra is being suppressed… which means… Akashi narrowed his eyes and looked at Kakashi. He saw the boy looking at him and nodded. A moment later, a huge shuriken was thrown from the tree. “Everyone, duck!” Kakashi yelled and everyone listened, the shuriken just barely missing their heads.

The ‘shuriken’ turned out not to be a shuriken, but a huge sword which impaled a tree a few feet away from them and a man was standing on top of it. Kakashi walked closer to the tree. “Oh, my, my, you are Momochi Zabuza, the exiled ninja of the Hidden Village of Mist”. Hearing this, Akashi walked closer to Naruto and stood in front of him, but that didn’t stop him. Naruto went around Akashi and dashed towards Zabuza.

“Naruto! Stop!” Akashi yelled and ran after Naruto, but Naruto was stopped by Kakashi, which made Akashi exhale in relief. “You’re in the way. Stay back, everyone”. Kakashi ordered them. Naruto immediately retaliated. “Why?!” He shouted, annoyed. “He’s way different from the guys we met before”. Kakashi explained, still blocking Naruto’s way with his hand. “If he’s our enemy, I can’t win like this”. He continued, his hand reaching the forehead protector which was over his left eye.

The man from the tree finally decided to say something. “I’m guessing you really are Kakashi the Sharingan user”. Zabuza turned his head Kakashi’s way. His words made Akashi double take. Sharingan user? Isn’t that the Uchiha specialty? Immediately after his thoughts, he turned to Sasuke, who had a shocked expression on his face. I’m going to take a guess and say that Kakashi shouldn’t have the Sharingan.

“I’m sorry, but I’ll need you to hand over the geezer”. Zabuza exclaimed and glared at Kakashi. Kakashi’s hand was on the forehead protector, ready for a fight. “Everyone, form the swastika formation, protect Tazuna”. Kakashi ordered the unmoving Genins. “Don’t join the battle”. That seemed to shock Sakura. “What?” She asked, confusedly. “To not interfere with the battle is teamwork”. Kakashi gripped his forehead protector and pulled it up, revealing a red eye with three commas around the pupil.

So he really has it, huh? Akashi thought and then grabbed Naruto, pulling him back towards Tazuna. Naruto started struggling. “Let me go, Akashi!” He tried pulling his arm away, but Akashi’s iron-tight grip didn’t lessen. “Shut up! Do you want to die?! We are no match for that man!” Akashi continued pulling Naruto back. That seemed to catch Zabuza’s attention, because he looked at Akashi. “Seems like at least one of you isn’t a stupid brat”. Those words made Akashi glare at Zabuza, his gaze unwavering.

“Hey! Hey! What is the Sharingan?” Naruto asked from behind Akashi. “Sharingan… The eye creates it, and it is the power that the pupil generates”. Sasuke started explaining. He said it has the power to see through all genjutsu, taijutsu and ninjutsu, and cancel their effects. He also said that it’s not the only thing the Sharingan can do. Zabuza decided it was the perfect moment to speak up. “Correct, the scary part is that the Sharingan can understand how an opponents technique works, and copy it”. After he finished saying that, mist appeared all around them.

Zabuza said that when he was in the Hidden Village of Mist’s assassination squad, Kakashi’s information was listed in a bingo book. “It also noted this… The man who copied more than a thousand techniques, Kakashi the copy ninja”. Zabuza stared down at Kakashi. A thousand techniques? I knew Kakashi was strong… but that’s too much. Akashi observed the exchange between Kakashi and Zabuza. Tension is rising.

“Let’s cut the chit-chat here, I need to kill that geezer right away”. Zabuza said from atop the tree. Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura and Akashi immediately jumped to Tazuna and formed a protective shield all around him. “But, Kakashi, it seems I have to defeat you first”. Zabuza ripped his blade out of the tree and jumped on the water. Akashi took notice of the chakra that was building up around Zabuza. That’s a lot of chakra for one jutsu. “Mist concealment”. Zabuza said and disappeared in the mist.

Kakashi said that Zabuza was in the Mist’s ANBU squad and was known for his ‘silent killing’ technique. He explained that it was a technique used for silent and instant assassination. After he explained that, the mist spread and he, too, was swallowed up in the mist. “Sensei!” Sakura yelled, alarmed. Akashi wasn’t worried about that, because he could still locate both Kakashi and Zabuza. Their chakra was well hidden, but he could still pick up traces of it.

“The larynx, spine, lungs, liver, jugular, vein, collarbone, kidney, and heart… Now, which vital organ do you want to get struck at?” Zabuza’s voice echoed all around them, but Akashi knew that that was an illusion, because he could sense his chakra. He’s different from the guys before, that’s for certain. Akashi sharpened his senses, kunai clenched tight in hand. A sudden blast of chakra coming from Kakashi cleared the mist around them.

A cold feeling washed over the Genins, making them freeze in place. Their killing intent is tremendous. Akashi swallowed and shook his head, gaining his senses back. “Sasuke, I will protect you four with my life, I won’t let anyone on my team die”. Kakashi called out to Sasuke and reassured him. Akashi looked at Sasuke and saw that he was frozen in place, his eyes wide open in fear. That seemed to lessen the tension around them. “I don’t know about that”. But that one moment of relief was broken by Zabuza.

Zabuza appeared between the four Genin and without hesitation, Akashi whipped his kunai and stabbed him at the same time Kakashi did. Akashi was momentarily surprised, because instead of warm liquid, cold water flowed down his kunai. It’s a clone! Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura and Tazuna jumped away, and Naruto pointed behind Akashi and Kakashi. “Behind you!” The clone burst into water and the real Zabuza swung his blade at Kakashi.

Kakashi was cut clean through, but again, instead of blood, there was only water. Using the shock Zabuza experienced, Akashi dashed towards him and pointed his kunai at the same time Kakashi appeared behind Zabuza, kunai at his throat. “Don’t move”. Kakashi threatened. “This is the end”. He declared.
