Liam Rawley
I was nervous to finally be able to see my father after so many years. I lived with my mother in Brooklyn for as long as I can remember but unfortunately, she had to move to another country for work. I was angry at her at first but I realized how selfish I was to be holding her back because I knew how much she wanted the job.
Anyways, I sat on the couch and waited for my father to get back on the station while I rearrange some of his stuff because it was a mess inside of his house.
My father is the sheriff in the small town that I landed myself onto and I didn’t mean to be stereotypical or anything but I was really hoping that he wasn’t an alcoholic because of all the beer bottles I found on the floor.
I stood up quickly when I heard someone opened the door and saw my father walked in with his cop outfit and sheriff badge on.
“Liam!”My father embraced and hugged me tightly, “I haven’t seen you in years.”
“Hi, dad.”I couldn’t help but let out a smile, “I miss you.”
“Are you hungry?”He asked, “I can’t cook but I know a great restaurant nearby if you want to get something to eat?”
“Yeah, that sounds nice,” I said with a wide smile and he wrapped his arms around my shoulder, making me lose my breath a little on how tightly he held me.

After dinner at the restaurant, we dropped by the station because my father needed to go and get something.
“You want to come inside?”He asked me,
“I would love to introduce you to everyone.”
I thought about it and didn’t want to at first but by how excited he looked, I felt like I had to.
“Yeah, okay,” I said awkwardly and followed him inside the station. It was very small but I wasn’t surprised because it wasn’t really a big town and from what I’ve heard, the crime rate here is very low.
“Is this the son?”A lady, who was also a cop came in front of us and examined my face, “He has your eyes but not so much on the nose.”
“This is Lama.”My father introduced,
“She’s a big fan.”
“Because he won’t stop talking about you.”She rolled her eyes, “Anyways, I hope you love it here. And stay out of trouble.”
I nodded with a polite smile and followed my father to his office.
I looked around and couldn’t help but grab the photo framed of him and me when I was younger. He was holding my hand and it looked like we were walking somewhere while I had a backpack on.
“That was your first day of school.”He notices me looking at it, “You wouldn’t stop crying on how you didn’t want to go and so, I brought you the park first to feed the birds and that really cheered you up.”
I had always loved nature and I had been called a lot of names for being passionate about animals. I remember that my father was actually the one that got me into it in the first place.
“Anyways, “He shrugged, “I should get you home. It looks like a boring night here anyway. Just wait outside for a few minutes. I have a call to make and I’ll be right with you.”
I walked out of the office and saw a boy there. He looked like he could only be two years older than me and he had black hair with brown eyes that looked like it was filled with something dark inside of it. He has an athletic body shape and looked like he was at least 6 feet tall.
“Want some?”He offered me the cigarette that he was smoking on.
I ignored him and tried to not make eye contact with him because he looked like trouble.
“Ah, I see, “He stood up but struggled to move closer to me as he was handcuffed to the table, “You think you’re better than me because I’m a smoker.”
“I did not say that.”I defended but quickly regretted it and tried to ignore him again.
“Stop messing with the kid, Ryan.”An officer warned but didn’t even bothered to stop whatever he was doing and make more of an effort to help me.
My father then walked out of his office and quickly noticed this Ryan guy looking at me.
“Is he bothering you?”My father asked me.
“Oh, I see, “Ryan smiled deceivingly, “That’s your son isn’t it, Sheriff?”
“What are you here from this time?”My father asked, “Stealing? Assault again? Wrecked another car?”
This guy sure had an interesting resume.
“Nothing serious,” He said casually, “Caught trespassing again.”
“Of course you did.”My father said without looking in shock, “Do you think your parents wanted this life for you?”
“Probably not if they stayed around.”He said with a smirk and threw the cigarette that he just used on my face and I winced in pain when I felt the burn on my nose.
My father and some other deputies tried to restrain him but he was laughing as if something was funny.
I locked eyes with a younger deputy, most likely the same age as Ryan and his green eyes examined the burned area.
“He’s an asshole.”He said and wiped the burned area with a tissue.
“I heard that.”Ryan pointed out.
“Someone take him away from here.”My father instructed and a cop brought him somewhere else. My father went along with him and I was left with the deputy, that looked all tense from the incident.
“God, I hate that guy.”He muttered.
“I’m not a fan either, “I said sarcastically and that made him let out a soft chuckle.
“You’re new around here.”He remarked.
“Yeah, just move here to come and live with my dad, “I explained.
“Right.”He mumbled and stood up, “I guess I’ll be seeing more of you around here.”
“I hope so.”I accidentally said and cringe, “I mean, not like I’m hoping to see you…I don’t mean that either…umm…”
“Relax, kid.”He rolled his eyes, “I hope to see you around too.”He winked at me and left.
“Come on, Liam, “My father rushed me outside of the station and went to our car.
“I’m so sorry about that.”He said softly after we got inside of the car, “He just has it out for me.”
“It’s fine.”I assured him, “I shouldn’t have provoked him or whatever.”
“You need to stay away from scumbags like him.”He said seriously.
“I will.”I nodded.
The guy was obviously troubled. I was still trying to proceed with what just happened because he had no reason to act so crazy when I ignore him nor threw a cigarette on my face because that is not normal. Nonetheless, I couldn’t stop thinking about my interaction with that deputy.
