As Yena was waiting for Y/N to come back, she spent her time watching the tv his parents had left on before they called it a night. She couldn’t shake off the feeling that her parents might be searching for her, whereas she decided to open her phone to check for herself.

3 missed calls…

“Where are you?”

She wondered how they could have noticed when they were busy nagging at each other. She eventually came to a decision to send them a quick message.

I’m-

“Noona.” Startled by the brother’s call, she put her phone down before she could even send the message.

“Yes?”

“I heard from my mom that you’re going to stay over. Is it true?”

“Yes! Yes I am staying over.” She answered, straightening her posture.

“Oh. Well I was told to accompany you here until my brother comes back, so-“

“No you don’t have to do that. I can just wait here silently until he comes back. I’m sure he won’t be long.” Despite her soft rejection, he sat across from her before replying to her rejection.

“It’s fine. I’m here because I also want to ask you a few questions.” She started to feel uneasy due to his words. What could the little brother of her friend possibly want from her, whom she only met once excluding the time where they met at the mall?

“And.. what’s that?”

“The girl from earlier, Chaewon-noona. She’s your friend, isn’t she?” She was slowly getting more uneasy, feeling that she knew where the conversation was heading.

“Yes, she is.”

“Couldn’t you have slept over at her place, considering that both of you are women? Or is it that you never asked her, and went straight to my brother for that? It would be strange if you had asked him first and didn’t even consider your other friend, wouldn’t it?” And her worry turned to be true, as Y/N’s brother is now suspecting her.

“I-It would. Also of course I did. But unfortunately, her parents are quite strict, so they wouldn’t let me sleep over.” She bluffed.

“Really? It didn’t seem like she knew that you were sleeping over. She did ask you to go home with her, didn’t she? Why would she ask, had she known that you were going to stay over?” Her bluff had no effect. It felt as if she was being interrogated by a private investigator by the special service.

“That’s… she could’ve forgotten about it.”

“I’m not buying it. Noona, you didn’t tell her anything and just went straight to my brother, did you?” Yena was not in a state to be thinking of how to evade his suspicions, as she was still thinking of her parents. Feeling defeated, she decided to give in.

“Okay, you’re right. But let me clarify this. I never planned on staying over at his place, which is here. Your brother was the one who insisted that I stayed over at his place, which explains why I’m here.”

“Alright. I apologize if I seemed aggressive just now. I was just curious because some things just felt off earlier. Now that that’s answered, another question arises. Did my brother really insist you stay over?” She could only nod, as there was nothing for her to answer other than a yes.

“Intriguing. I wonder what went through his mind to make you sleep over at his place. My place, I mean.”

“What’re you saying, Jeongin-ah?” She sat at the edge of the sofa, interested in what he had in his mind.

“Let’s see. What did you talk about before he offered you?”

“Oh. Well let me just tell you from the very beginning. I was just walking around with a backpack, when I met Y/N coincidentally. He asked what I was doing outside, and why I had a backpack with me. He knew that I already headed home before we met, which explains why he was curious about it. And then I started to tell him about the problems I have in my residence. Long story short, I told him that I don’t want to be there for the night. Soon after, your mother found us and asked if me and Chaewon would come over to have dinner.”

The brother seemed to be listening carefully, as well as trying to pull the strings together and see what he can conclude from what had occured.

“I accepted his offer at the end because I feel safe around him, okay? It’s not like I’m taking advantage of him and all.”

“Relax, noona. I’m not accusing you or anything. I just find it fascinating that he took action upon something he has no obligation to.”

“…you’re right. What kind of thoughts went through his head before he took action?”

“I’m not sure. But I-“

Just as he was about to spew out his thoughts, he noticed her yawning which made him concerned whether she was tired.

“Are you sleepy?”

“Yes. But I need to wait for Y/N to come back or else it’d be rude for me to not do so.”

“He won’t. You can go ahead and sleep. I’ll tell him that you already fell asleep because you felt tired. We can continue this at another time, right?”

“Oh right, about that. I have a few questions that I might want to ask, so is it possible if I ask about it on a later date? It won’t be much later, as it’ll be next week. If you’re available, that is. And before you ask, it’s regarding his condition. You do know that we want to cure him by doing everything we can, right? And in order to do this, we need your cooperation in doing so. What do you say?”

He gave her words some thoughts, before proceeding to agree in lending her an aid.

“Okay. Sure.”

“Thank you very much, Jeongin-ah. Also I apologize, but I think I need to head to bed now. My eyes couldn’t bear to keep awake anymore, or else I’d just fall asleep on the sofa.”

“It’s okay, noona. Sleep well, then.”

Time skip

Y/N had finally arrived home, not forgetting to greet himself back. He noticed Jeongin in the living room, but not his friend. He wandered around his place, before asking his younger brother.

“Has she gone to sleep, Jeongin-ah?” Y/N asked.

“Yes. She said her eyes couldn’t take much longer and went to bed. She told me to tell you that she’s sorry for not waiting for you ’til you came back.”

“Oh. Well that’s okay. Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

“I was accompanying your friend earlier, since both Mom and Dad went to bed ahead of us. I thought that she might want someone to talk to considering she’s alone at a friend’s place.”

“I see. Thank you for that. I’m gonna go ahead and sleep first.”

He watched his brother walk away into his room, watching his every movement hoping that he could somehow find something different about him. But of course, he wouldn’t act any different since he was only doing his own thing. But what if he were to face one of the new friends he just made?

This was what the little brother had thought.
