Chapter 9: Mutants

Moraka’s voice was completely blocked behind him.

The cold wind blew in at night and brushed Lin Xi’s hair. He leaned against Mu Yechen’s arms, his body shrank unconsciously, rubbing against the warmth of the body next to him.

Mu Yechen’s body froze slightly and he turned to block Lin Xi from the cold wind.

His military tent is located on the east side of the temporary camp and there is already a brazier burning charcoal in the tent, dispelling the chill of the night.

Mu Yechen walked into the tent, quickly found his camp bed and placed the person in his arms on the bed.

With the warmth, Lin Xi’s body finally stopped shaking. He closed his eyes, as if falling into a long, quiet sleep.

Looking at it, Mu Yechen reached out and lifted Lin Xi’s feet up and placed them flat on the bed, then straightened his body by hugging the other’s waist.

But just as he lifted his waist, Mu Yechen’s movements suddenly stopped.

Lin Xi’s waist is very narrow and his weight is very light.

But Mu Yechen was stunned for a moment. He fumbled twice on Lin Xi’s waist, as if he was measuring something.

At this time, Cang Jie and Luo Xiaowei also came in.

“Commander, I knew that you took a fancy to the appearance of this white rat when you were patrolling the camp!” The captain of the guards immediately exclaimed when he saw this scene.

Mu Yechen glanced at Luo Xiaowei.

“Ah! It seems that there are still few people in the mobile team tonight, so I’ll go to help them substitute!”

Luo Xiaowei was clever and immediately ran away with the gun in his hand.

Mu Yechen didn’t speak, his eyes slowly shifted to Lin Xi.

Previously, this person’s face was covered with blood stains and could not see his true face. At this time, the dirt on his face had been washed away.

Although his face was withered and withered, the combination of pale lips, winged eyelashes, and a fair skin contrasted with the firelight next to him.

“Commander, is there any clue?” Cang Jie suddenly asked, “Do you think he is a surveillance officer or surveillance soldier?”

Only Cang Jie and Mu Yechen knew about the location chip of the mutant. This made the two always observe and doubt Lin Xi.

But this time Mu Yechen quickly denied: “The surveillance soldiers and surveillance officers are from the laboratory and they are also the troops of the other side. There is no need for them to lie to us.”

He said, his eyes shifted to Lin Xi’s body again.

The clothes on Lin Xi’s body are very thin and under the Ge-clothes reflecting the totem, the man’s limbs are even and his body is slender.

“Could he be a mutant?” he asked suddenly.

    Cang Jie was stunned.

He didn’t expect Mu Yechen to ask such a question.

“Head, although I was suspicious before, his germ layer test is a normal human being.”

“Maybe some mutants can escape the judgment of germ layer test under the test equipment?”

Cang Jie opened the medicine box: “Commander, I don’t know why you think like this. But… mutants don’t get sick.”

Mutants are stronger than ordinary people, except for combat injuries, they rarely have the symptoms of old humans.

Mu Yechen frowned, but he didn’t ask any more questions.

He watched Cang Jie take out the syringe, pulled out Lin Xi’s arm, then pushed in the needle tip and slowly injected a tube of antibiotics.

This is what the old humans used to survive an emergency.

    But mutants never need it.

Mu Yechen watched for a while and sighed. He asked the soldiers under him to bring the bedding that ordinary humans needed and gently cover Lin Xi.

Then, he opened the tent door and left the tent.

Lin Xi still woke up from the tent.

But this time the tent has changed again. He found himself lying on a wooden-supported bed with sheets on the bottom and a quilt on his body, completely different from the previous.

The feeling of being covered by a quilt is very warm, which is completely different from being soaked in nutrient solution and sleeping in the wind.

He found that the original pain in his body disappeared.

Lin Xi was startled and looked around for valid information.

“Are you awake?” Seemingly sensing the movement of the tent, someone walked in from outside the tent.

The person who came was facing the light at the door. He was wearing a light silhouette, he could only vaguely see that he was tall and straight.

But his voice and figure were familiar.

It is the commander of the other side’s advance force.

    Lin Xi’s face turned pale.

He realized that he was still in the desert, and only the accommodation of human commanders would have such conditions.

The warmth in the quilt suddenly faded, he lifted the quilt and sat up from the bed.

“Why am I here?” he asked tentatively.

“You had a fever yesterday. We picked you up from the shaman and gave you antibiotics.”

    “Antibiotics?”

“Yes, the special medicine that the other side gave to ordinary people. We thought you couldn’t last last night, but it seems that you are quite better now.”

Lin Xi knew the reason why his pain didn’t happen again.

    – Antibiotics can be used anywhere, there is no need to used it to him.

Lin Xi glanced at the commander in front of him and saw that the other party was holding a kettle and a piece of food. He was standing, looking at himself, without mentioning the reason why he was here.

    He understood instantly.

The commander was suspicious of him and he watching him.

    “Thank…thank you.”

He began to bow his head, pretending to be grateful.

    “It’s alright.” The commander smiled.

Lin Xi didn’t speak anymore, he started to grab his trouser legs with his hands.

The commander also watched silently. After a while, he pulled a chair and sat down.

The position of the chair is opposite to Lin Xi.

    “What’s your name?” he asked.

“White, white mouse.” Lin Xi replied.

“No, what I asked was your real name.” Mu Yechen vetoed.

“…” Lin Xi didn’t speak any more, leaving only a cramped impression on Mu Yechen.

This conversation was silent for a full five minutes.

In the end, Mu Yechen didn’t ask any further questions.

“Bai Rat… ‘Rat’ is too ugly, so I’ll call you Xiao Bai in the future,” he said.

    Lin Xi’s hand froze slightly.

He slowly curled his fingers and couldn’t help but look up at Mu Yechen.

The commander was not looking at him, he sat on his side, opened the things he brought in, and took them out the same way.

“It’s dawn, I heard that you haven’t eaten for a day, do you want to eat?”

Lin Xi had been ordered to stop eating for a long time by the laboratory. He shook his head, just wanting to separate from the commander in front of him as soon as possible.

“It’s dawn…Aren’t we going?” He carefully changed the subject.

    “No.”

The commander shook his head, “We have detected that there will be a level 15 sandstorm on the road ahead. Just in case, we need to stay here for two more days.”

Lin Xi was a little disappointed.

A level 15 sandstorm was dangerous but it was nothing to him. If the force had not been forewarned, this might well have been a good chance for him to escape.

He now needs a chance to make an escape.

Lin Xi thought to himself but the commander in front of him interrupted his thoughts.

Mu Yechen suddenly handed Lin Xi a piece of jerky.

    “Eat?” he asked.

Jerky is a military supply, the food that soldiers eat.

Lin Xi was stunned, then slowly shook his head.

Mu Yechen put the jerky back and took out a box of canned fish.

    “Eat?” he asked again.

“…” Lin Xi paused and shook his head.

Mu Yechen changed the ham meat again.

“Eat?” He repeated the same action.

    Lin Xi began to hesitate.

If he doesn’t eat again, Commander Mu is likely to have new doubts about him.

He was about to raise his hand hesitantly, but Mu Yechen didn’t notice his movement and took the ham back again.

After a while, he took out a small box and a pair of bowl and jug from the bag.

The commander opened his jug, filled the bowl with hot water, and put in a piece of dehydrated vegetable.

The green leaves are slowly boiled in the water.

    The commander looked down

“This is the vegetable made by Cang Jie, it won’t burden the stomach.”

He said and handed the bowl and chopsticks to Lin Xi.

“I don’t know what you like to eat. If you want to eat it, try it. If you don’t want to eat it, you can put it on the table.”

Lin Xi stretched out his hand, raised it in a daze and looked at the leaves floating inside.

The heat from the bowl steamed up.

He suddenly lowered his head, his body trembled and he did not speak.
