Chapter 21: RIGHTING THE WRONGS

***********************************************************

Jensen’s POV:-

***************

I was prepared to knock on the door but found it standing completely ajar, making me stop at the door frame, caught off guard at the scene unfolding in front of my eyes… chaos and noise greeted me but nothing could have prepared me for this.

Kyle Brook?!
Freaking Kyle Brook was here, in my office building and I had no idea how I felt about that. There was another man in the room with them. Tall, dressed in an all-black suit and he wore dark shades even indoors. He looked like a bodyguard, or maybe he was doing a matrix cosplay. What was going on there?

My gaze shifted suddenly and I tried to take in the situation. Alex was standing on the opposite side of the room behind her table, gripping the desk in a death hold almost like she was restraining herself, while anger flashed in her eyes.

It wasn’t directed towards me for once and I didn’t know if I should be relieved or offended about that fact. There was no one else in the office, It was too late anyway, everyone else had gone home.

“I told you to take care of the problem Kyle, not create another one!” Alex said gesturing towards the ‘man in black’.

“I didn’t mean to Alex, but your safety is important, what if you get attacked by the paparazzi? How will you get out of that?” Kyle was saying.

“It’s all your fault! You’re the one who waltzed into my office without thinking twice and have you handled the news situation? Oh god, it’s gonna blow up and get even more idiotic with you showing up here you dumbhead!”

Alex screamed her brains out at Kyle, but he seemed the least bit affected, almost like it was a daily occurrence and said in a calm voice “I don’t care about all that, I care about your safety, I’m the elder brother… and you can’t complain because these are mom’s orders.” he drawled out playfully.

Gobsmacked at his response, I stared wide-eyed at them. They are siblings?

“You’re also the reason I’m in this mess. ” Alex pointed out.

My mind started working up the pieces…. that’s why she dismissed it when Josh asked her about it, that’s why Alex was trying to murder Kyle, that phone call earlier was most definitely about him. And I’m definitely a moron.

That also explains their similar last names. Yeah, no shit!

As soon as I registered this information, a feeling I had not right to feel rushed through me….relief. I was relieved for some reason and now all I felt was amusement and admittedly stupid about jumping to conclusions.

“Just get lost Kyle, you’re killing my brain cells, and also take your bodyguard with you I don’t need him,” Alex said, tired from all the yelling. “No offence to you,” she said, turning to the bodyguard.

“None taken.” He replied flatly. “And I think someone is at the door.”

Both of them turned to look at me then, and I was slightly unsure as to what I should do, I felt like I was intruding on a family moment and felt the need to explain myself.

I just came to apologize for being a jerk’ seemed crude, but it was accurate, instead I went with:

“I just wanted to talk to you about….” I trailed off looking at Alex and held up the file that was in my hand as I walked in.

She looked embarrassed, “sorry, I-I didn’t know anyone was around….” and then she decided to make introductions. “Uh-umm this is my brother Kyle Brook and Kyle…my boss Jensen Black.” she gestured between us as she spoke.

Kyle turned to look at me “The famous Jensen Black? It’s nice to finally meet you.” He extended his hand for a handshake.

I accepted the friendly gesture and nodded “Nice to meet you too.” I could see why he was considered the best in the industry, the way he carried himself with confidence said it all.

“I’ve heard so many things about you from Alex,” he says and my gaze shifted to Alex over Kyle’s shoulder and I gave her an extremely pointed surprised look.

“Oh, you did?” I ask despite myself. She talks about me?

“Yes absolutely, she’s always on and on about how you have made her life a living hell. I owe you one for that” he joked good-naturedly but what he said didn’t sit well with me. What did you think, she sings your praises? My subconscious mocked me.

What all I had said to her in the printing room once again played in my mind…
I frowned. Stupid! So, so stupid!

Kyle was speaking to Alex in a hurry “I need to go okay?” He then said to the bodyguard, “Stay with her and don’t listen to her.” He nodded at me once in acknowledgement and then he was dashing away.

“Kyle get back here. You can’t just leave your bodyguard with me, Kyle!” she yelled to no avail, she stopped when he was out of sight, knowing it was useless. She looked like she would spontaneously combust, and I had no idea what to do.

“Is it really that bad?” I asked, she tugged at my sleeve and pulled me towards the window and we both looked out at the swarm of paparazzi at the entrance of the building.

“Damn.” That’s all I could say.

“It’s not too bad. Kyle deals with the worst.” She said, “but I’m not used to this.” she looked at the bodyguard, with obvious displeasure at his presence.

“How did this even happen?” I wondered out loud.

She decided to tell me. “People don’t really know that Kyle has a sister, I actually stayed away from all his growing popularity, such rumours are very common around him.” She shrugged and decided to change the subject. “You wanted to talk about something right?”

“Yeah…” I agreed “I wanted to discuss that charity event we’ll be hosting, so…shall we get to it?”

“Now you want to?” she looked at me with her eyes narrowed into slits, I could tell she was still mad about my behaviour from earlier and she had every right to.

“About earlier…” I swallowed and looked straight into her deep chocolate eyes. “I know I wasn’t being reasonable and that’s not fair to you, I don’t know what came over me and why I said what I said, I would take them back if I could, but you always…. you’re patient with me and for that, I want to thank you.”

She was looking at me like she couldn’t decide what to do with me. “Are you trying to apologise, because it’s really hard to tell,” She joked, I cracked a smile.

In a roundabout way… yeah. “Well, I’m trying to… And you’re not making it any easier.” She raised an eyebrow at that in a ‘you’re the one to say’ manner. “Look, I know we got off on the wrong foot and I’m sorry for all the times I’ve been out of line.” I continued, “But I want to make it right this time around, can we… do-over?”

I don’t deserve her forgiveness, but I needed it desperately.

“Are you saying this in a strictly professional way or-“

I groaned and that made her laugh mid-sentence. “Can we pretend I never said that?” I was pleading with my whole being.

“On one condition.” She said, and I nodded to encourage her, “Only if you promise to never call me Ms. Brook.” I liked this condition.

I’ve realised that she’s completely different from what I had initially thought of her, and I really wanted things to change for the better.

“Deal,” I said and the corners of her lips pulled up, a dimple dug into her left cheek while her eyes lit up making her look radiant.

That smile.

********************************************************************

We found out that the bodyguard’s name was Mike. Alex didn’t want him to be following her around, she seemed annoyed and uncomfortable. We headed to my office to work and Mike stood guard outside.

As soon as we entered my office room we saw it was a mess. Papers were scattered everywhere. I remembered how that had happened and tried not to be too embarrassed.

“I might have left a window open,” I said sheepishly. All the windows were closed shut, Alex noticed, but didn’t question it.

She crouched down to gather all the papers and I helped her, feeling bad that she had to right my mess. Once we cleaned up the place we got to our actual work and I didn’t understand why we bothered to clean up at all…hours later the room was a mess again.

Papers covered every inch of the coffee table, along with half-filled coffee mugs that went cold a while ago, we both sat with our laptops while Alex made notes in a notepad from time to time.

It felt like I was actually working with a professional event planner, it was a very elaborate process, not that I expected her to be sloppy, but she was thoroughly engrossed with her task and took it seriously.

The guest list was re-revised, caterers, decorators, and hundred of other things were decided. We went through a bunch of invitation card designs and finalised one in a combination of blue and ivory after a heated debate.

We eventually took a break from work when our food arrived and we sorted through the papers and arranged everything to make room for the large pizza box.

“I’m starving.” She said as I opened the box and we both grabbed a slice and got comfortable, not at all bothered with plates. I practically inhaled the first slice not realising how hungry I was. I watched Alex as she took her time with her bite savouring it, as she closed her eyes like eating a pizza was pure bliss.

When I realised what I was doing I quickly looked away before she caught me staring like a creep. That would be awkward, needless to say, difficult to explain.

But my eyes found her time and again, she was just too exquisite to not stare. I tried not to watch as her hand slipped into her dark hair and pushed the silky strands away, tried not to watch her moist full bottom lip as she took a drink of water, tried not to look how comfortable she was, and how long her legs looked in those fitted skirt but it was a losing battle.

Damn it!

I mentally searched for something to say, desperate to start a conversation. “You’re really good at this,” I told her gesturing towards our laptops and stacks of paper that sat on one side of the coffee table now in the form of a pile.

“This?” She looked at numerous crunched up pale yellow sticky-note papers laying on the floor, they obviously had a rough landing, and had scattered in a short radius of the trash bin. “You mean making a mess?” she asked. That made me laugh out loud.

“I was actually trying to give you a compliment but you……..never mind.” Her mind works in mysterious ways for sure. “I just meant this whole event planning thing.”

“Oh, well… My mother is Rebecca Brook so I’ve learned from the very best,” she smirked.

Where have I heard that name before? Rebecca Brook, as in Richard and Rebecca Brook?! My eyes widened.

Wait… what?! She’s Richard and Rebecca Brook’s daughter, which means, “You’re the heiress of the Brook Enterprise?” Oh yeah, Kyle Brook is her brother. This suddenly makes so much sense. “How the hell is it possible that no one knows about you?” I was gobsmacked and couldn’t help but blurt whatever I was thinking at this point.

“That’s because I’m remarkably good at hide and seek. ” She replied cheekily.

I rolled my eyes, “what would it take for you to be serious once in a while?”

“I am serious. ” She protested defensively, “It’s fairly obvious that I’m generally good at games.” Her eyes were lit with mischief.

“Yeah, good enough to lose at something as trivial as beer pong,” I mumbled audibly.

“Hey!” Instinctively she picked an olive from her pizza and chucked it at me. I caught it in my mouth, shocking even myself but acted like it was effortless and I meant to do that.

“You cheated, I didn’t know you were some kind of beer pong grand slam champion or something.” I laughed at her accusation but noticed a smile playing on her lips, despite the objection in her narrowed eyes.

“Alright, alright. Don’t change the topic. ” I said.

“I never-“

“How come no one’s aware that you’re one of the Brooks?” I just couldn’t figure it out, I’ve met Richard and Rebecca in galas and charity events and even during business meets, Richard Brook is known for his philanthropy all over, granted I’ve never met Kyle at these events but he was referred a lot being the public figure he was, but there was never the mention of a daughter.

“I’m a registered biological daughter and legal citizen if that’s what you’re wondering.” She said flatly. “Do you want to know my Social Security number and bank password as well?” Yeah, she made it abundantly clear that I was being nosey.

“I didn’t mean to pry… ” I said. Normally I’m not this inquisitive, I usually don’t care but It’s just that something about her is so captivating I can’t help myself. I wanted to tell her that but I settled for “I’m just……just curious. “

I shrugged and went back to my pizza. Alex sighed heavily, her eyes studied me with an ‘I know what you’re doing’ gaze, and I smirked.

“Fine, not like it’s a huge secret or anything, I’m the youngest in my family, Mom and Dad were really successful with some daunting accomplishments and they were famous even before I was born and I don’t believe I’m saying this but the same goes for Kyle at a remarkably young age.” She blurted that last part so fast like it hurt her physically. I chuckled.

“All that was left was small-little-me, I hated the attention and the spotlight that came with being a Brook and the expectations were crazier than ever, I was overwhelmed and so I went off the radar because-….” She hesitated as if she didn’t know what to reveal.

“Because I needed some time… I did some soul searching, got my degree and currently I’m getting some experience before I parade into dad’s business and drop the stocks like a fun game of domino.” She told me while I listened closely.

“But your brother, you don’t look-” I frowned as I tried to word what was on my mind, without being offensive in any way. Everything right from their, eyes, hair, skin had no resemblance.

“I know, people are always thrown whenever they find out we’re siblings because we look nothing alike, it’s the root of stupid gossip around him, we look so different because we are not biologically related Kyle is adopted, does that answer your question?” She elaborated, guessing what was on my mind correctly.

“Yeah, I guess…” I nodded. It made sense. No wonder that thought never came to my mind even though I knew their last names.

“But that’s just a detail, I couldn’t ask for a better brother…” She admitted. Then all humour left her eyes and she spoke seriously, “I always wanted to make a name for myself, I don’t want to be known as Richard Brooks daughter, or Kyle Brooks sister but that was harder than I thought…So there you have it, I don’t think my life is private anymore the media probably got the wind of it by now and they must be having a field day if you wait a while you could get to read all about it in the gossip columns.” She said it casually but I could sense how much she hated it.

“Gosh you spoiled it all for me didn’t you, I always read the gossip column regularly, it’s a highly dedicated practice of mine,” I said flatly, Alex threw her head back and laughed at the picture I painted for her. I smiled.

When she stopped laughing she asked, “Speaking of gossip, you caught the wind of that article surrounding me?” looking slightly worried or embarrassed?

“It’s kinda hard to miss,” I said gesturing at the bodyguard standing outside my door. She turned a little red and mumbled a few choice words under her breath furiously. Kyle was probably in huge trouble.

I thought of all that she told me and I realised she would leave eventually and work for the Brook industry, she will probably lead it. The thought was as unsettling as it was unexpected.

I was still reeling from the shock from what I just found out, Alex was full of surprises, everything about her was catching me off guard and for once I felt drawn. “So what if she’s gonna leave, they all do.” I thought of Olivia.

“Sorry, what?” Alex asked, she was frowning slightly in confusion and I realised I had mumbled that to myself.

“Nothing. Do you want some water?” I stood up and grabbed two mugs and started pouring water in both before she could reply.

“Sure.” She said, I could feel her gaze on the side of my face but I didn’t look up.

When I returned with the mugs, Alex seemed to have made herself comfortable on the couch. she had discarded her shoes at a corner and tucked away her bare feet on one side to feel more relaxed, her dark hair was tumbling loose and slightly messy descending over her left shoulder while a few strands fell across her face hiding her beautiful eyes, but she didn’t seem bothered as she tucked them away behind her ear each time a strand fell loose.

Jesus Christ!

I couldn’t stop looking at her. Why? When did this happen? Was Josh right? It can’t be… My office suddenly had a very different aura, it was warm and sensual instead of the usual cold atmosphere.

I wanted to reach out and touch her-… No! That’s fucking forbidden!

I scrambled for something to say, “What is going on?” I asked as I handed her the cup, her fingers brushed mine as she received it and I tried not to show how that affected me. I expected her to be getting back to work, but the files and the laptop was untouched.

“I thought we could call it a night.” She said and I shrugged since I didn’t mind. I decided to get rid of my coat, loosened my tie, and sat there in my waistcoat while running my hands through my hair.

“You know what I just realised?”

“What?” I humoured her.

“That you sir have very smartly, I must admit, have made me confess all about myself while I’m still left in the dark about you.” She noted.

I was pleased to know that she wanted to find out more about me, but that scared me as well. “So are you genuinely curious or is it some form of revenge investigation where you make me spill all my embarrassing stories?” I joked, raising an eyebrow.

“I’m gonna have to go with the latter, this is pure revenge.” She replied in a ‘duh’ tone and I had to smile at her.

“Okay, what do you want to know?” I said a little warily.

“Alright, so give me some super-secret intel about Signature Heights, you know something that I can really use against you when I want to.”

“Ooh” I mouthed, like it was an amazing question and then proceeded to tap my chin to make a show of giving it a serious thought, as I finally answered, “Josh. Yeah, I have a feeling he’s gonna be my downfall.”

“Josh? Really? That’s not super secret, it’s more like… glaringly obvious.” She frowned exaggeratedly at my non-interesting answer.

“Hey, you know where to hide anything classified right. In plain sight.” I said, being cheeky and she rolled her eyes at me.

“Don’t pretend like he’s not your biggest strength, I can tell.” She was not wrong, Josh is a big reason why we are both doing so well, and that we immediately succeed at whatever we put our minds to. He’s been my pillar of strength.

“You are very observant,” I noted.

“Well yeah, but even if I was blind I could have sensed the bromance between you two, it’s kinda adorable.” She teased, and I groaned with a disconcerting smile.

“Why do people keep telling us that? Even Jennifer never fails to point it out every chance she got.” I complained loudly, making her laugh.

“Who’s Jennifer?” She asked her face a mixture of curious and confused.

“Just my twin sister” I shrugged and she looked at me speechless.

“There are two of you?” She gasped like it was most horrific. I could only guess what she was thinking.

I laughed, “you wouldn’t have thought that if you met her first.”

“What is she like?” She asked automatically like the request rolled off her tongue before she could think twice.

A fond smile made its way to my lips as I started to speak and she listened “She’s amazing, I won’t tell her this cause that’ll go straight to her head….”

“I know what a pain, never say that to a sibling.” She acknowledged, making me smile a little.

“But well, she’s the only person with whom I can honestly be myself.” This was surprisingly easy to talk about. “She is always there for me in all my good and difficult times since we grew up together and I admire her for her positivity,” I said.

“Who is the older one?” Alex raised an eyebrow. There’s that question I didn’t like.

“She is. She’s actually just a few minutes older than me but loves to use this fact in her favour claiming that she’s ‘smarter’ and ‘wiser’ than me.” I rolled my eyes unknowingly.

“She definitely sounds smarter and wiser than you,” Alex said jokingly.

I scowled, “of course you would think that.” I shouldn’t have expected any different.

“Hey, she’s smarter alright, she’s been able to spot your and Josh’s bromance. It’s official.” She said and I groaned again.

“But there’s one thing I never really understood. . .”

“Which is?” I urged, jumping at the chance to change the topic.

“Why do you put up an act of being so distant?” She asked straight out, not one to beat around the bush. “I’m very curious.”

Wow. I didn’t expect that, but I should have, granted how I behave just a few hours prior. My hot-one-second, cold-the-next persona could be confusing.

I opened my mouth to say something but Alex spoke up before I could “And don’t even try to deny it. We both know what I’m saying is true…I could list a few examples if you want…” Well, indeed, I’ve slowly warmed up to her but did she really have to ask me that?

I looked at her for a few seconds with all seriousness I could muster and then sighed, thoroughly contemplating how to tackle this question that she just catapulted at me. “I wasn’t always this way you know, but I’ve been this for a while, it’s-…..it’s just that, I can’t run a business if I go soft on everyone.”

“But you’re so great at what you do, how does it matter whether or not you are curt?” She couldn’t understand.

I took a deep breath, preparing myself for what I was going to say “I had to take over the company at a young age, I was just out of college and still confused about my career when I had to take up all the business responsibilities while we were in debt.” I closed my eyes and leaned back on the couch as I spoke.

“It wasn’t easy, especially when no one wanted to take me seriously. I did what I had to do and this was the only thing that seemed to work.” I didn’t know how else to explain it. “Everyone thought I was a spoiled brat and had it easy since I inherited the company without much effort….. everyone thinks it’s easy when you’re born into a rich family, no one knows how much of a burden it can be.”

When I opened my eyes, she was watching me. “Does that make sense?”

“Yeah.” Alex nodded, a distinct glint in her eyes caught me off guard, “yeah, it does, and it sounds stressful.” She nodded like she could relate and truly understand what I’ve been through.

“Everything has a downside.” I smiled almost sadly, “Thankfully it gets shadowed by the benefits.”

“Oh really?” She raised an eyebrow as if waiting for me to elaborate.

“Yeah, I mean… don’t you think so?” I asked.

“Is this some kind of a ‘secret’ test?” She looked around suspiciously as if looking for hidden cameras and I shook my head in amusement.

“Um, then I suppose, it’s really fun, it’s no amusement park, but here at the office my coworkers are welcoming, I have my friends to chat with- I mean work all day and I enjoy what I do and the fact that I can see positive results out of it.” Alex tried to put it lightly, and I laughed at her intentional slip of the tongue.

“And what do you think is the downside?” I asked curiously.

“My boss at times is a bit of a prick,” She said bluntly. Ouch.

“Oh, is he?” I said, playing along. “That must be difficult to deal with.”

“You have no idea. When I first met him, he was a frozen block of ice, and I thought he should be starring in one of those movies called ‘Horrible bosses’ but it’s not so bad now, I set him straight and it seems he’s thawing.” She said, a smirk on her lips taunting me, but I wasn’t mad, there was just something about her……

“You set him straight huh?” I repeated, slightly stunned.

“Someone had to.” She shrugged innocently, making me throw my head back and laugh, soon she was laughing with me.

“You’re lucky I like you…” I told her, looking at her sideways at an angle, with a smile I couldn’t fight.

“Don’t I know it.” She smiled back that brilliant disarming smile.

************************************************************

We were both oblivious to passing time as we stayed and made idle conversation. Laughing and one-upping each other seemed to be very engaging.

We cleaned up soon afterwards, cleared the coffee mugs, crumbs and disposed of the empty pizza box, silently we worked in sync.

Alex looked exhausted, while I was hoping to bring up something I’d been trying to say for a few minutes now but didn’t know how to go about it.

“Alex…” I said suddenly and she looked up at me with curious eyes “If you need another day to work on that new estate project it’s fine, take your time, I’ll tell the advertisement agency to reschedu-“

“That won’t be necessary.” she interrupted. “It’s already done, I was gonna give you that file tomorrow morning.”

I felt like an absolute jerk. “It wasn’t entirely on me, the deal was scheduled to be signed and I-“

“I know Jensen. You don’t have to explain. I get it.” she just smiled and I felt horrible. I wasn’t saying if just because we were getting along now, I genuinely regretted the way I handled the situation back then and wished to amend it.

“Gosh it’s so late!” she exclaimed looking at the time on her wristwatch, “I hope the swarm of reporters is gone by now.”

My eyes widened when I realised it was nearly eleven o’clock “I’m overworking you and you weren’t feeling well today.” I said guiltily and she laughed.

“Well, if you help me out with something maybe I won’t hold a grudge,” she said, and I raised an eyebrow in curiosity.

She looked around like someone could be eavesdropping and then gestured for me to lean in towards her just like she did in Josh’s party, I complied seeing no other choice.

“I need to get rid of my bodyguard, he seems like one of those know-it-alls that I hate so much, I can’t-…..” she whispered in my ear and halfway through I lost track of what she was saying, her soft warm breath fluttering across my jaw made me tremble and I hoped she didn’t catch that. She smelled divine like a mix of lavenders and something fruity, it made me want to pull her closer, I barely restrained myself. “……and I need your help.” she pleaded, thankfully I caught the last part.

I frowned a little. Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea, I mean, Mike was there for a reason.

She could see my doubts written across my face clearly and softly said, “I’m doing it anyway, with or without your help.” her eyes were stern with a firm decision.

“Guess that doesn’t leave me with much of a choice,” I mumbled under my breath, loud enough for her to hear and she smiled like a kid who got her way.

“I need to get to the parking area somehow, hide me from Mike, You have to cause a distraction so that I can sneak out.” She told me her plan.

“Are you planning to just sneak out the front door?” I asked and she nodded confirming my fears.

“Your plan is terrible,” I told her frowning and she pouted feeling offended. “You’ll get caught!”

“So, you got a better idea?” she crossed her arms defensively and looked at me with a challenge. “I have no other option unless you’re suggesting I jump out of the window with a parachute.”

I gave her a flat stare and gestured to her to move in closer, she complied, leaning in to whisper, I said “Let’s divide and conquer.”

She shifted away after a short pause as if she was expecting more, with a blank face she looked at me like I’ve lost my mind, “That’s all? What the heck is that supposed to mean? Isn’t that a bit too vague?”

I sighed. If I were talking to Josh he would have already jumped (figuratively) into action. “I don’t understand women” I mumbled under my breath and took it upon myself to explain the plan in detail.

“Here’s what we’re going to do, I have a private elevator in my office.” I pointed towards the direction of the elevator. “It leads to the back emergency exit. I don’t think you should use your car, the reporters could be still out there and they must be keeping a lookout, I’ll head out to the parking, get my car, come around to the back entrance and wait for you, You have to sneak out and meet me there, I’ll drop you home. That way Mike won’t find out.”

She smiled so huge it was blinding “Don’t let this get to your big head but, you’re a genius.”

“Too late.” I joked. “And be careful.”

Divide and conquer, that was our plan and that’s what we did. We gathered and arranged all our stuff and then I pulled on my coat. While walking out of the door I said over my shoulder “I’d like those figures by tomorrow morning.”

“Yeah, you got it,” she said as she pretended to slump on the couch and continued with the nonexistent work as I let the door close shut behind me.

Mike was still standing there tall next to the door like he had no intention of moving. I walked leisurely to the elevators and made my way to the parking just as we decided. I hoped she could pull this off, her bodyguard did look like a know-it-all, she’s right nobody likes a know-it-all.

I decided to work with her tonight since she looked determined and I figured if something goes wrong I could help her out of that sticky situation rather than her dealing with it alone.

Just like I said, I waited in my car near the back exit, looking around alert, with one foot on the gas. Suddenly movement caught my eyes, it was Alex and she was running towards the car. “Go, go go go go!” she urged as soon as she got inside and I was already pressing down on the gas rushing off into the night.

“What happened?” I asked eagerly.

“I heard footsteps,” she said like that could be the most terrifying thing to ever happen.

“You what?” This was ridiculous. We both burst out laughing as I drove while she tried to buckle up her seatbelt.

“Do you think Mike found out?” She thought aloud.

“I hope he does, or he’ll be standing there for a while” I added as an afterthought. “Although from your very welcoming behaviour he should have seen this coming.” I teased.

“He probably did, I was horrible, wasn’t I?” she cringed in embarrassment.

“Absolutely. Like he was the grim reaper.” she laughed again and I smiled looking at her.
