You were sitting in the school library, surrounded by an almost serene silence, yet you still had your noise-canceling headphones on, opting to hear nothing but Frank Ocean playing softly in your ears.
Once again, you found yourself stalking Jade’s profile, despite your attempts not to make it a habit. You simply couldn’t help it.
Yesterday, while you were out with her enjoying some ice cream, she had taken picture of you and posted it.
The caption read: My beautiful girl.
Things felt different.
It wasn’t new for her to post pictures of you, even with affectionate captions.
But every time she did, she would send you a screenshot and tell you she was going to post it.
This time, she hadn’t.
Maybe you were overanalysing it, making it a bigger deal than it actually was, but this post felt different.
It didn’t feel like part of the fake dating act.
It felt real.
You tried to shrug it off, but. If you were being honest, everything had felt different since you hung out with Tori yesterday.
You were jolted out of your thoughts by a tap on your shoulder.
Quickly, you turned off your phone and turned around in your chair, only to be met with Andre’s grinning face.
“Calm down, Liv. Man, who did you think I was? You should’ve seen your face,” he said, laughing as he sat down next to you.
You playfully slapped his arm. “Shut up, you bitch.”
“No, but you and Jade are cute together. So cute it makes me want to puke,” he teased.
You gave him a weird look.
“Beck doesn’t agree with me on that, though. I think he’s starting to regret breaking up with her now that he sees you and her all happy and mushy together. Don’t let him get your girl,” Andre added.
Your eyebrows shot up.
Fuck.
This sucked because if Beck did try to win Jade back, he would almost certainly succeed, and Jade wouldn’t be yours anymore.
“You really think so?” you asked, trying to mask your worry.
He shrugged. “Yeah, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much if I were you. Judging by how happy Jade has been since you started dating, she won’t go back to him.”
Despite his reassurances, you couldn’t help but worry. He didn’t know what you knew.
You hoped Beck wouldn’t try to get Jade back so you could spend the whole two months with her, even though that time would never feel like enough.
You were nearing one month and still had a whole month left.
You didn’t want that to be taken away by Beck.
—
After school, you got into Jade’s car.
“Do you wanna stay at mine for a bit? My parents aren’t home,” she said, placing her hand on your thigh, this time dangerously high.
You looked at her, trying to keep your voice steady.
“I mean, if your parents aren’t home, I definitely want to come over,” you said jokingly, wiggling your eyebrows.
“Oh my god, shut up,” she said, slapping your thigh.
You giggled, mesmerized by her.
You studied her side profile as she concentrated on the road.
It was funny because you could drive perfectly well, but she never let you. She liked the control, and you enjoyed being her passenger princess.
“I can feel you staring,” she said without taking her eyes off the road.
Your face turned red. “Uh, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” you said, quickly looking away.
“So… have you heard anything from Beck yet?” you asked, trying to change the subject.
Before she could answer, her phone lit up.
You read the name on the notification.
Beck.
