Nicolas walked into the kitchen after leaving Kai to get the promised drinks. When he arrived at the serving table he saw Rex managing it and he raised his eyebrows in surprise.
“What are you doing?” He asked his friend.
“I’m watching over the drinks.” Rex replied in an obvious tone and Nic rolled his eyes.
“Nice costume you got there.” He grinned at the chef costume, it reminded him of his sweet little Kai who will one day become a professional chef, Nicolas was sure of it.
“Can I get two of the fruity drinks? No alcohol.” He asked and Rex nodded, pouring the liquid in red cups.
“Why are you doing this? Isn’t this your first party here? Shouldn’t you enjoy?” Nicolas inquired and Rex sighed.
“You know I won’t enjoy a party without Julie. I also want to make sure no one gets hurt because of what they drink tonight.” Rex murmured as he recalled the way his own sweet girl had almost gotten hurt because of the fact that someone had attempted to drug her.
“You’re a good guy, Rex.” Nicolas said and his friend scoffed at him despite the small smile he had on his face.
“You have your drinks now go back to your sweetheart.” Rex shooed him away after they talked a little bit about how Julie and him were doing. Nicolas rolled his eyes despite the grin on his face at Kai being called his sweetheart.
As he walked back in the main room where he left his angel he was surprised to see him no longer sitting at the table.
He glanced at the dance floor and spotted Arthur and Noelle closely dancing to the music. If he wasn’t so worried for Kai he would have smiled at the sight, instead he pushed past the dancing couple and grabbed Arthur’s arm to turn him around to face him.
“Where’s Kai?” Nicolas asked keeping his voice calm and not yet letting himself panic.
“He’s sitting at the table.” Arthur said with a confused frown but he too looked back at the table and his eyes widened when he saw that Kai wasn’t there.
“Maybe he went to the bathroom?” He said unsurely but they both knew that Kai would have told them before leaving.
“Why would you leave him alone!” Nicolas almost shouted at his friend as he ran his hand through his hair in frustration.
He took a deep breath to calm himself down before making his way to the bathroom and sure enough his little Kai wasn’t in there.
When he went back in the main room he was surprised to see Rex glaring at a girl while yelling at her as she cowered back from him.
“What’s going on?” He asked his friend.
“She has been mixing this in drinks!” He exclaimed raising a small packet of some sort of substance.
“What is that?” Nicolas asked confusedly.
“I-I haven’t been mixing them in drinks! I only gave them to my friend so she could have some fun with a guy she’s been pining on. It only makes the person feel tired and drunk!” She tried to explain but Rex was still shaking with anger.
“Which friend?”
“Mary.”
“What?” Nicolas all but growled slamming his hand on the table next to him when he heard the name. The girl flinched at the noise while Arthur looked at him with wide eyes, him too realizing what was happening.
Nicolas turned around before running up the stairs and opening the doors of the closed rooms.
The first door he opened and he was met with a couple that was in the middle of a very heavy make out session.
“What the fuck dude get out!” The guy yelled when Nicolas barged in the room in a frenzy.
He didn’t bother to apologize and just slammed the door shut before moving on to the next ones.
He was growing irritated and his heart was racing with fear of where Kai could be. He hoped to god that she didn’t touch him because if she did he wouldn’t know how he would react.
When he opened the next door his blood ran cold and he clenched his fist, his body shaking with anger at the sight that laid before him.
Kai was laying on the bad practicaclly unconscious with Mary on top of him, she was straddling his waist and her disgusting hands were running up and down his chest.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Nicolas growled marching to her and grabbing her arm and roughly pushing her off his Kai.
He didn’t care that she fell to the floor or the yelp that left her lips as she winced at the impact. All he cared was about the boy who had a painful frown on his face as he forced himself to stay awake.
“N-Nicolas.” Kai murmured with small smile his body finally letting go of force that was holding him awake. “You’re h-here.”
And then his eyes shut closed and his hand fell limp on the bed.
Nicolas’s heart dropped to his stomach as he rushed to the bed and cradled Kai’s head to his chest.
“Kai? Kai, baby wake up. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for leaving you. Please wake up.” Nicolas continue to shake him softly as he cupped his angel’s flushed cheek. Kai’s skin felt hot under his and Nicolas could feel how much he was starting to burn up.
He heard the footsteps of other people entering the room but all his focus was on his unconscious best friend. He continued to apologize and beg Kai to wake up.
“It’s not your fault Nicolas.” He heard someone say and a hand laid on his shoulder for comfort.
He turned around to see Arthur staring at him with sympathy.
“It is my fault. I left him alone.” Nicolas said with gritted teeth while continuing to run his hand up and down Kai’s back for comfort.
“You didn’t. You left him with us. We left him alone, not you.” Arthur said with guilt in his voice. Nicolas didn’t say anything because deep down he was angry at his friend. But he knew he couldn’t take his anger out on him, Kai wouldn’t want that.
Instead he opted for blaming himself for not being there when Kai needed him.
Kai wouldn’t want that either. His subconscious reminded him but he pushed it aside. He needed someone to blame.
Blame Mary.
“You fucking bitch!”
Nicolas turned around startled, only to see Noelle pulling Mary up by grabbing her hair with her fist.
“Ouch! Let go!” She screeched but Noelle only tightened her grip and pulled her face closer to hers.
“You think you can drug my friend and I’ll let you get away with it? You think you’ll try to sexually assault Kai and I’ll let you get away with it?” Noelle sneered in her face and Mary closed her eyes in fear.
“I-I wasn’t assaulting him. He wanted this! He just couldn’t see it yet! We’re meant to be!” She said even with fear in her voice and Nicolas was back to shaking in rage.
He was about to let go of Kai to teach her a lesson when Noelle did it instead.
Smack!
His eyes widened at the loud noise of smacking echoed in the room. Even Arthur was shocked but he grinned in pride that his girl just slapped the shit out of the psychotic bitch.
Noelle let go of Mary’s hair and she fell on the floor, cradling her red cheek as tears pooled in her eyes.
“I swear to fucking god if I hear another spew of bullshit come out of your mouth I won’t just slap you. I’ll make you regret you were ever born, sweetheart. Don’t. Mess. With. My. Friends.” Noelle said kneeling down next to the frightened girl and giving her a sinister grin that even Nicolas gulped.
“If you come near Kai again think of my words Mary because it won’t be pretty if I see you anywhere near him.” She said, getting up and dusting her hands off. She walked to the bed and stroked Kai’s hair before checking his temperature.
“Shit. He’s burning up. God he’s so bad with alcohol and she just has to add something in his drink.” Noelle growled turning around to glare at Mary who was still on the floor but once she caught sight of Noelle’s glare she got up and scurried out of the room.
“Take him home. And if his temperature gets worse take him to the hospital. If he doesn’t wake up in three hours or so call a doctor.” She instructed Nicolas and he nodded looking at Kai with a worried expression.
“He’ll be okay.” Noelle assured patting Nicolas on the arm before turning around to leave but Nic grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
“Thank you.” He murmured, “For doing that when I couldn’t and for standing up for Kai.
She chuckled before shrugging her shoulder.
“It was no big deal. Kai is my friend and I’d do anything to protect him especially from bitches like Mary.” She said and Nicolas smiled back.
“No big deal? Babe that was amazing. And hot.” Arthur murmured the last part in her ear but Nicolas heard and rolled his eyes at his friend.
“I’m going to take him home now.” He said softly resting Kai’s head back on the pillow before getting up and picking him up bridal style. He cradled his body closer to his chest and made sure he was safe.
“We’ll walk you to your car.” Arthur said grabbing Noelle’s hand and waking behind Nicolas.
They made their way downstairs and some people looked at them curiously before shrugging and going back to the party. Rex worriedly looked at Kai who was unconscious in Nicolas’s arms and mouthed, “is he okay?”
Nicolas caught his eyes and nodded. Rex was still at the serving table and the girl who he was yelling at was nowhere in sight and neither was Mary.
Nicolas was glad that she had left, not wanting to be angry anymore and just wanting to care for Kai.
They walked outside and breathed in the fresh air before walking to Nic’s car. Arthur grabbed his keys from Nicolas’s doctor jacket and opened the passenger door.
Nicolas carefully set down Kai on the seat and adjusted it so he was more laying down. He then strapped the seatbelt in and reached in the back seat to grab his sweater that he had brought in case Kai got cold. He put the oversized sweater on Kai’s body before running his hand through his hair and leaving a small kiss on his temple.
He stood back up and faced his friends who were both grinning at him.
“What?” He muttered.
“Oh nothing.” Noelle chuckled and he rolled his eyes at their antics.
“Nicolas.” Arthur said catching his attention.
“Yeah?”
“I’m really sorry man. I should have stayed with him and kept him safe like you trusted me to. I know you’re blaming yourself for what happened tonight but it wasn’t you fault, okay?” He said and Nic sighed.
“I know you didn’t mean for him to get hurt and I won’t lie and say I wasn’t angry that you had left him alone at that table but I also know that you had no idea what would happen. And if we’re going to blame someone than it should be that psychotic chick, Mary.” Nicolas grumbled the last part and Arthur nodded.
“Get home safe and update us on how he’s feeling.” Arthur said and Nicolas nodded, clapping Arthur on the back and nodded goodbye to Noelle before making his way inside the car.
He turned around to make sure Kai was okay and checked his temperature again. Feeling Kai’s forehead under his hand Nicolas sighed in relief, his temperature went down.
He tenderly stroked Kai’s flushed cheeks before getting ahold himself and starting the car.
Hi guys! Did you guys like seeing Nicolas’s point of view more in this chapter? I definitely loved writing it. I think it’s adorable that he calls Kai with so many different nicknames in his head.
