“Hey! Denny! Wake up! Please wake up!”
“Five more minutes, Joe.” He whined, hiding his face in the pillow.
“Why do you tell me to wake you up if you never actually get out of bed?” Joe hit him with a pillow hard.
“Ow! Evil dimples!” Aiden shouted in pretentious pain.
“Yeah yeah as if a pillow could hurt that mass of muscles. Get your ass out of bed. Ian and the guys are gonna be here soon.”
Aiden rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling. They’d been back for a month now and he still didn’t know what to do with all the feelings he had. Should he confess? Should he keep it to himself? Was the other guy even gay? Or bisexual? Ugh, humans should have had a bracelet or something that said which sex they’re interested in. That would solve a whole lot of problems.
The bell rang and Joe went to open the door, still nagging at how Aiden was still lying in bed. He wasn’t to blame. It was Saturday, and he was allowed to be lazy. Like a broken doll. A lazy broken doll. Fucking great.
“Where is Aiden?” A voice asked.
“Muscles is curled up in his blankets like a sleepy bunny.” Joe replied, pointing at his bedroom.
Aiden’s eyes flew open, yelping in pain (real this time) when a body crashed on him. Apparently, Ian thought it was okay to jump on him with his full body weight.
“Ow ow ow Ian, please, it hurts. Get off me.” He struggled to first get his hands out of the many layers of blanket before curling them around Ian, rolling him to the other side of the bed and off himself. This friend was laughing his ass off at his misery.
Aiden glared at him. “Are you laughing at my pain?”
“Isn’t it obvious?!” He laughed some more. “By the way, congrats on your promotion!”
“What promotion?!”
Ian looked at him, confused. “The promotion you got at work yesterday?! You’re the head of team 4 now?!”
Aiden blinked at him several times. This was new information to him. “I haven’t heard of this, Ian. You must be wrong.”
“No, I’m not! It was emailed to everyone at the company.”
“Ha… I haven’t checked my email since Thursday.”
Ian stared at him. “Ha? That’s all? Why are you NOT happy about this? Do you know how much more money we are talking about here?”
Aiden shifted in bed. “About that…” He then sat up, looking at Ian’s face as he was still lying down.
“I’m quitting.”
“WHAT?!”
Aiden jumped at how loud Ian had yelled. “What, shhhshhh!! You’re gonna wake the entire neighborhood up!” he gestured at a yelling Ian to tone it down.
“I DON’T GIVE A FUCK! WHY WOULD YOU QUIT?”
“BECAUSE!… Because I’m really really bored and-”
“And what? So what are you gonna do?”
“I’ll tell you if you don’t interrupt me for two seconds! Calm down, Jesus! I really enjoyed the 4 months we performed on stage. The audience, their applause, it was all euphoric.”
“So you’re gonna continue the dance profession?”
Aiden shook his head. “No, I’ve already checked dancing. I’m gonna take a step forward.”
Ian raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“I’m gonna be a singer, Ian!”
The other just looked at him. Then shouted Joe’s name. “Joe, COME HERE FAST.”
Joe ran to the room, thinking someone had died from all the drama that was in Ian’s tone. “What is it?”
Ian looked at Aiden, frowning. “I think Aiden has gone mad. His wires must have burnt or something.”
Joe didn’t understand a thing. With an irritated face, he said: “Will you tell me what this is about or should I just leave? I’m in the middle of a game, for fuck’s sake.”
“Joe! This guy says he wants to quit the company and become a singer!”
Joe’s jaw dropped, turning his head to Aiden, who was looking at the two silently. The younger closed his mouth after a few moments. “Well, I mean, he did dance to Michael Jackson’s songs with a bowl on his head when he was a kid, so…”
“I didn’t know you guys were friends for that long!” Ian said, surprised.
“We were together for two years in elementary school, then again in high school. So yeah, I know his dirty little secrets.” Joe smirked and looked at Aiden mischievously.
“Don’t you fucking dare, Joe! I’ll skin you!” Aiden pinched his arm.
“Oh please, you can’t hurt a bee!”
“Yeah, I can’t hurt you, honeybee.” Aiden winked at him playfully.
“Ewwwwww! Get a room, you two. Ewewew!” Ian cringed and got off the bed, leaving the bedroom.
Aiden and Joe laughed out loud and followed him to the living room.
“You guys! I have BREAKING NEWS. Aiden wants to quit his job and become a singer!” Ian told the other two as soon as he spotted them.
“For real?” Finn asked, looking surprised at Aiden, who had a Joe dangling from his shoulders.
“Yep.”
“Cool.” Brad smiled.
“See, Ian? That’s how friends are supposed to be. SUPPORTIVE.” Aiden teased Ian.
“But you’re gonna risk everything. Your position is so good now. And being as good and as smart as you are, you’re gonna be the head of the company one day!”
“You’re smart too. Smarter than me, especially when it comes to programming. I’m gonna make a sacrifice and give you my chair.”
Ian rolled his eyes. “Yeah, right! David is gonna murder you. Good luck telling him you wanna quit right after he made you the head of your team.”
With that, the three of them turned to look at Aiden and yelled, “WHAT?”
“You got promoted?” Joe asked.
“Apparently! I didn’t know about it myself. The crazy puppy just informed me about it.”
“And you’re still quitting?” Finn asked.
He hummed.
“Well, if you don’t make it, you can always join me at the dance school I’m opening.” Brad said.
“Thanks, Bro! You’re the best. That dolphin should learn from you.”
“Make up your mind, god! How many animals are you gonna name me?” Ian nagged.
“You’re a whole zoo, sunshine.”
“What’s with all the nicknames?” Joe asked, letting go of him and going to the kitchen. “Go wash up. Breakfast’s gonna be ready soon. Chef Finn is cooking today.”

(The present day)
Aiden was remembering all kinds of stuff these days. From the tiniest memories to the most important ones. He was currently sitting in his studio, editing some parts of the song he was working on. He wasn’t going to sing it himself. He had just written the lyrics down last night and immediately wrote a beat and then he called the first person he thought the song would be a good match for. His phone rang. It was Edwin.
“What gives me the pleasure, doc?” He answered his phone teasingly.
Edwin giggled at the other end. Ah, he had missed this sound. “Where are you?”
“At the studio. Why? Wanna come over?”
“Yeah.”
“Really?!” He was so shocked that he knocked a glass of wine over, but managed to save himself from a red mess everywhere just in time by catching it in the air.
“Lili and Vin baked today. Asked me to bring you some.”
“What?! They baked?!”
“It’s a long story. Don’t even ask. Send me the address?”
“Okay. I’m gonna send it to you right away. See ya.”
As soon as Aiden pressed send, someone entered his studio. He looked up and his jaw dropped.
“Patrick my man! blond suits you really well!!” Patrick smiled widely at him and spread his arms. They hugged and Aiden leaned back, looking at the other’s hair again. Patrick looked good with every color, but damn this blond made him go up to a whole new level of handsomeness!
“Thanks, man. You should go blond, too. I’m tired of your style. You’ve had it for too long.”
Aiden brushed his hair with his finger. “Have I? Not blond, though. Blond is gonna be your signature color from now on. Man, you’re really hot like this!”
Patrick laughed and took off his hoodie. A thing he always did when he felt hot due to the compliments.
“So? What’s this song you were talking about?” The blond asked.
“Listen, it’s a really sad song. It’s okay if you don’t wanna sing it. I don’t wanna push it on you, okay?”
“Just play it already!”
Aiden played the song with the lead he had recorded. Patrick was completely focused. When the song finished, the other started talking without hesitation. “I want it on my album. I’m gonna add it to the tracklist. But we gotta record it soon, like today, cos the album is gonna be out in 12 days.”
“Woahwoah, easy tiger! I know the song’s good, but it’s not that good! And it’s not done yet!”
“Yes, it is! And I want it. I’m gonna call my manager and tell him about this. He’s gonna arrange everything.” Patrick paused and looked worried a little. “But bro… how are you holding up? I heard what happened, and I was really worried. Did you overdose on purpose, or was it really an accident?”
Aiden’s eyes widened. “How do you know about it?!”
“We have a mutual friend, remember?”
“Ah… right. It was an accident.” He lied yet again.
“Don’t let those accidents happen again or I’m killing you myself. You can’t die on me, man!”
Aiden looked into Patrick’s eyes intently. This blond had one of the purest souls and he loved that about him.

Edwin had said no to the duo’s request of taking a piece of the cake they had baked for their favorite person in the whole wide world, but then they looked at him with puppy eyes and he couldn’t say no anymore. He arrived at the address. It was a huge building with so much security. He wondered if he could just go through the doors like that. He approached the gate to the lobby and asked one of the security guards which way the elevator was. He just wanted to know if they were going to let him in easily or if he was going to get punched because of casually entering a celebrity company building. To his surprise, the security just showed him the way and smiled. Edwin thanked him and smiled back.
He reached the 10th floor and made his way to door number 515. He was about to knock when the door opened and a blond boy rushed out of the room. This guy had red eyes and swollen lips. He checked the door number to see if he was at the right place again, and was sure when he saw Aiden coming out of the exact room.
He flinched upon seeing the doctor. “Oh, hey! Go inside. I’m gonna be back right away.” He then ran after the blond guy, calling his name, ‘Patrick’.
Edwin’s mood was ruined just like that. He went inside and sat on a chair, looking around the studio. There was a giant monitor with a keyboard (pc) and then 2 keyboards (instrument), one on his desk and one under the glass surface. There was also a laptop and several types of microphones and speakers, and a number of weird toys. Edwin had seen those. They were quite expensive, and yet this guy had this many of them! And then there were the awards he had won and so many energy drinks. At one corner there was a chair, one of those you could basically live on cos they were just way too comfy. There was a box full of letters, supposedly from the fans, and then his eyes caught something on one of the shelves. A pack. A pack of cigarettes. He picked the pack up in his hand and opened it; it was nearly empty.
Aiden rushed back inside at that moment, closing the door behind him. He turned to Edwin, seeing him standing there with the pack in his hands and a judging look on his face. “Sorry for making you wait. Those aren’t mine. I don’t smoke.” He smiled.
Edwin threw the pack back where it was and sank down on the comfy chair in the corner.
“Did I interrupt something?” He asked.
Aiden looked at him in question. “What?”
“The guy. The blond guy, um, Patrick? Were you guys making out or something?”
Aiden burst out laughing. “What gave you that idea?!”
“His lips were really swollen.” Edwin shrugged.
Aiden laughed again. “He’s allergic. And he’s having it the worst now that the season’s changing.”
Edwin nodded and smiled. “Here, they nearly killed me for this.”
Aiden reached out and took the container. “They really baked this?!”
Edwin nodded. Before long, the blond guy was back with another man. An older one. He had entered the passcode as if it was his own studio and came in.
“Yo Aiden! Good to see you back in business, man! We missed your sassy ass around here.”
Aiden hugged the guy, laughing. “Do I have to kick some butts? Did anyone bully your round tummy while I wasn’t around?”
“The only one who bullies my round tummy is you, Denny. Kick your own butt.”
To Edwin’s surprise, Aiden did spank himself teasingly and blew a kiss to the said guy. And then he turned to him.
“Edwin, we’re gonna record. Do you wanna stay around and see how a song is born?”
“I’d love to. If I’m not a burden.” He replied, looking at the other two.
Patrick gestured a ‘Nah’ and stretched his hand towards him. “I’m Patrick. Rapper. And you are?”
“Edwin.”
Patrick nodded before letting go of his hand and going into the small recording room.
“I’ve never seen you before. Your new boyfriend, Denny?”
Aiden choked on the water he was drinking. “Oh god no! He is my doctor. And a friend.” He then turned to the rapper. “You ready? Do you have the lyrics?” Patrick showed a piece of paper and with that, the recording started.
It took a long time, nearly 2 hours, to record the whole song. Edwin learned that Aiden was the one who made it all in just 1 day but gave it to Patrick to sing, as it was supposed to be a rap song. But the lyrics were so intense, showing how much Aiden still cared and loved. The more he listened, the more his heart ached for the man in front of him.
‘The first time I saw you, the sun stood in shame
‘cos you were so much brighter, warming me to the vein
Comforting me each time, like life wasn’t ill to you
Always casting aside the worries that were eating you
How I wish to hold you more, to say I was the one
that deserved the frustration and now I welcome it all
Will you think of me again if you find a picture on your phone?
Will you think of going back, or is my love to you now nothing but a chore?
Maybe it has been a chore for a while, since you said it hurt you daily more
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, will it change anything if I keep saying it?
I hate myself for this, and I don’t think I’m ever forgiving it’
