Zayn hadn’t had many problems in his life. He was born rich, both his parents being business entrepreneurs. He was a good student and an obedient son. From childhood, he had been raised with strong morals and values. After completing high school, he went abroad to USA to study management.
In the USA, one day when he was at a party at his friend’s house, he met Arthit Ahuja. Though younger than himself, Arthit was the best person he had ever met – a combo of funny, sarcastic and understanding. The two hit off instantly and became friends shortly. Hanging out with each other ignited those jittery, sparkling feelings in Zayn’s stomach.
One night after getting drunk, he had confessed to the younger boy and was shell shocked to the core when he got to know that his feelings were not unrequited. Their relationship progressed from friends to boyfriends.
In the course of time, like turned to love. They had quite a few ups and downs together due to they both being men and also of belonging to different religions. Nevertheless, their relationship was working out and Zayn was glad for it. They had gone on several dates and had kissed even, albeit secretly. And Zayn had respected Arthit’s decision to have their first night after their marriage. On his 20th birthday, he came out to his parents. They had been accepting and it went better than he had anticipated. His parents had told him that he would always be their son and they would support him no matter what. Zayn finally felt his life was settled – good marks and his degree would be completed by the year end, a nice and caring boyfriend and supportive parents.
When we think our life is settled, every thing starts going down. Zayn’s life too was no exception. One fateful day when they were hanging out, Arthit suddenly broke up with him. Zayn had a feeling that Arthit was growing distant but never expected them to break up. So, it was a shock to him.
He had called his mother to get some consolation but the call had straight gone to voicemail. A day later he got a call back from his mother’s number. But he was devastated after taking the call. It was the police contacting him to inform him of his parents’ death in a car accident. The poor boy flew to India as soon as possible. After the funeral, his parents’ secretaries told him that shortly before their death, his parents had incurred huge losses in business and were in debt. The creditors from different companies and banks were now demanding for their loans to be paid.
Zayn had been raised with strong values and was well aware that if he refused to pay his parents’ debts, the reputation of their family will be tarnished. He paid off the debts with every single thing he owned and inherited. He was forced to quit college due to the monetary strain. Hence, he was left on the street with nothing but a half finished college degree in management. The next year was pure hell in Zayn’s life. Somehow with God’s and his parents’ blessings, he survived. One of his friends then offered him a job in his marriage planning company. Zayn was nothing if not a hard working person. He made good use of his talents and now, a year and a half later had gotten a better post in the company.
The marriage alliance between the Ahuja and Malhotra families was his biggest project since the time he started on his job. And his friend cum employer had requested him to be present at the venue personally to ensure that nothing goes South.
Everything was going well with the marriage until it was time for the pheres and his eyes locked with the one person he had never expected to meet again, Arthit Ahuja.
