DIVYANSH:
I was escorted to my room by my mother who warned, “Ansh, be careful. Don’t touch anything with mehndi covered hands.” I nodded as she locked the door and went away. I plopped down on my bed and thought about how my life changed in the past two days.
For the whole of my life, I had been living in my sister’s shadow. When my mother was pregnant with us, an astrologer told my father that our business will prosper in the hands of their older child and the younger one will bring only bad luck in the future. As I was the younger child, my family kept me hidden from the public. I have been homeschooled. The only times I went out of the house were the ones when I had to pose as my sister because she was busy with something else and let me tell you, it was not very often. My parents doted on her and ignored me.
When I was 14, I realized that I was gay. It was a sudden change in my life. But with the grace of God, I accepted it quite quickly. No one knows about this and they don’t need to too. I grew my hair overtime and now it reaches my waist. Me and my sister are identical twins. The doctor told that I too would have been a girl, had it not been for a very peculiar genetic mutation. So, I became a boy who has curves like a girl. Don’t get me wrong here. I don’t have boobs, just a curvy, lean and slender body. My sister was interested in business and money while I was engrossed with arts and cooking.
Our company started losing money so Dad decided that a collaboration with the Ahuja Corporation will be beneficial. And what else is better than a matrimonial alliance? Nothing. So, it was decided by both the families that my sister would marry the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ahuja, Ashwin.
Everything was going according to their plan but it is my dear fucked up life you are dealing with here, so something important went wrong. Today when my mom went to wake up my sister, Divya, she was greeted by an empty bed. A note was found on her nightstand that said,
Mom and dad, I am sorry. I just discovered yesterday that I am pregnant with my boyfriend’s child. So, I am running away with him. Don’t try to find me. Good bye. Love, Divya.
Well, as Divya ran away, it seemed to my father that the marriage would not be held but his money-minded mind gave him the brilliant idea that I am the best replacement for my sister but they did not know a single detail that separates me from my sister. I have a cute black mole on my waist that my sister lacks. Apart from it, we are photocopies of each other. My father approached me in the morning, “Divyansh, it’s time to prove your worth. You are gonna act as your sister till the reception. Once the papers are signed, we will be getting 50% of their company’s shares and you can do anything after that. But before it, remember not to fuck anything up or else I will personally kill your sorry ass.”
This is my life. Tomorrow I’m gonna get married to a man whom I have never seen before. Hope that he’s hot and handsome. With these thoughts I laid down and closed my eyes, careful of my hands. As soon as my head touched the pillow, I was out like a light bulb. I guess the stress of wedding, lying and this drama has taken a toll on me.Â
