Chapter 13Â Â
“And it’s not like my words had any truth in them. . .†The omega pursed his lips. “You are handsome—in fact, I never saw a man as handsome as you in my life . . .Not only this, you are a great father to Shiva.â€
A surprise flashed in his eyes as Aryan stared at him. The omega’s lips formed a coy smile, and his cheeks flushed with redness. For a second, he thought that the omega had put on some blusher. And those chestnut brown eyes of his seemed so sincere and forthright, causing his heart to flutter. A surge of heat flowed through his veins. His wife’s words were evoking strong emotions in him. Probably half of the words of his son, who talks eagerly about his mother with joy that filled him like sunshine.
“Words have nothing to do with the truth. . . it’s your eyes, how they perceive things. And as far I see, you didn’t perceive me and your son in your life before . . . .You never wanted this marriage, you never wanted Shivam, you never wanted to stay with us. But now, you are here, spending the time with Shivam, promising him not to leave ever. . . and you want to work on this marriage. What changed your view so drastically?†Aryan asked, his voice nonchalantly, with a slight hint of frustration.Â
The omega was stunned.Â
Tonight had evolved into a conversation between them. It appeared to be absolutely necessary for Aryan. The omega wasn’t an obnoxious and spoil-brat anymore. And Aryan figured that much already. But that’s not all. . . there was more. Something had changed—The omega had changed. He didn’t even hesitate to jump and be a shield for Shivam, not even afraid of what could have happened to him if only the car hadn’t stopped.
And then those lips of the omega curled into a barely smile. “Before I have done things, I’m not proud of. And after I hit my head, I turned over a new leaf . . .I realised what a big idiot I was. All this time, I was missing something that matters more than anything in the world. And it all happened because of a dream.â€
“A dream?†Aryan said. Can just a dream bring this change in a person?Â
The omega nodded, licking his lips. “A dream of self realisation . . . that I am not what I used to be. Sure, it was part of me, but not anymore. I am what you see now. . .. you can say that dream showed the real me. . .I know, I’ve done things, so it is hard for you to believe. But what you are seeing is not also a lie.â€
From the omega’s expression, it didn’t seem like he was lying. And Aryan didn’t distrust those words, either. There was never an interaction between them to talk like a civil person before, so Aryan never knew exactly what kind of person his wife was before.
“You can put the dressing back,†Aryan said, putting the cap back on the ointment.Â
The omega said, holding the dressing toward him. “May I ask you to do it as well?â€
Aryan said nothing. Taking the dressing from him, he took the foot of the omega in the other hand. As he began to wrap the dressing around the ankle, he heard the omega.Â
“It wasn’t a lie that I wanted to work on this marriage. . . and I still do.†His voice is quiet.
Aryan’s gaze darted to look back to the omega. “Tell me the truth. Why do you want to work on this marriage?â€Â
Tension settled on the omega’s brows. Aryan had asked his mother what she said to the omega that he all of a sudden expressed a desire to improve their marriage. If the omega desired this marriage to work, he would have expressed it during their self-realisation after his head injury. The truth surprised Aryan when his mother revealed it to him; Chandra was afraid that if Aryan divorced him, he would be separated from Shivam and never would be allowed to meet Shivam. Â
“Don’t ask me why I know this, but I was afraid that you would divorce me and take full custody of Shivam. I didn’t want to be separated from him.â€
“I’m not divorcing you until you want me. So, you don’t have to force yourself to work on this marriage.†Aryan made it clear as he took the hook and tugged on the dressing to hold it together. .Â
“Really?†The omega’s eyes glistened.
So, indeed, the omega was being forced to be with him in this marriage. And the thought darkened Aryan’s mood. “It’s done,†Aryan told the omega, letting go of his foot.Â
As Aryan stood on his feet, but before he could take a step forward, a warm hand caught the wrist of Aryan. His gaze turned, tilted to the hand of the omega, holding his wrist, and then darted to glance at the omega.Â
“Do you need something?†Aryan asked unemotionally, but that mere touch of the omega, holding his hand, was a whisper of a current.Â
The omega shook his head. “No—I mean, yes, but if you are not too busy, I have something to tell you.â€Â
“What is it?†Aryan asked.Â
The whole face of the omega glimmering with happiness as he smiled excitedly. “Would you like some tea first?†He added, “I will make it.â€
It would be a lie if Aryan said that he wasn’t curious about what the omega would want to tell him.
“Okay.â€Â
At 12:30 of the night, the quiet place of Aryan was filled with the clunking sound of the omega making as he put the pan on the gas stove and tossed the things to make the tea.
Aryan stood in the kitchen against the counter as his gaze interestingly latched onto the omega.
He didn’t know that he had stuff to make tea in the kitchen. Usually everything is made in the main kitchen at his parents’ place. And if Aryan needed anything, he just used the intercom.Â
Waiting for the tea to boil and brew, the omega spun on his feet. Leaning across the kitchenette, he looked at Aryan. He noticed the omega flaring with happiness as the smile tugged on his lips didn’t seem to fade away.Â
“I love drinking tea at night. So, I have things to move here,†he said, raking a hand through his silky hair and the hair fell over his face.Â
“You can have someone make it for you,†Aryan told him.
“Mm-hm. But I like to make myself, and . . .†His lips split into a grin, as he went on in his vibrant voice, “I want to make tea for you with my hands.â€
“Why?â€Â
“I don’t need a reason for it,†he shrugged. “I just want . . .and I’ve something important to tell.†Again his fingers threaded through the hair, which fell over his face, adoring his face.Â
After making the tea, the omega poured the tea for him.Â
Aryan took a sip of his tea. It was good, not too sweet. Nothing too much. Perfect like the last time.
“So, how is it?†the omega asked with hopeful eyes.Â
“It’s good,†Aryan responded.
The omega smiled.Â
Even if Aryan had never regarded him beautiful in his eyes before, there was no denying this omega was more beautiful and captivating now.Â
As the omega raised his cup to his lips as he asked, “Did the shoes fit you perfectly?â€Â
“Yes.†Then Aryan remembered Siddharth was going crazy for the shoes or shoemaker.
“My friend, Siddharth, loves those shoes.â€
“Really?†The omega looked so happy and surprised.
Aryan nodded. He tried to recall what he said, mostly he wasn’t even paying attention to him much. “He said something about not seeing that weaving ever before. And he loved them so much.â€
“And you?†the omega asked curiously.Â
“I wouldn’t be wearing them if I hadn’t liked them,†Aryan said, smiling. “Siddharth wants to know where you bought them?â€
“About that. . .†The omega’s voice tapered off. While Aryan waited for him to say that he ordered them online or he’d someone exclusively made for him somewhere.Â
“I didn’t buy them from anywhere.†The omega put his cup down on the countertop and then he glanced back at him as he wet his lips beneath his tongue. “I made those shoes for you myself.â€Â
The cup in Aryan’s hand dropped to the floor.Â
His wife rushed over. As he crouched down to collect the broken pieces of the cup, he asked, “Are you alright?†Instead of replying, Aryan bent down and caught the omega’s arm, stopping him from touching with his bare hands the sharp pieces of the glass.
The omega looked at him. His eyes had traces of uneasiness. “Is it really shocking that I am making shoes?â€Â
It indeed came as a shock to Aryan. The shoes Siddharth couldn’t stop talking about were made by his wife. All along, he assumed that there was no way he could have made something that required persistent hard work to grasp over mastery. . . .Siddarth told him that no machine had been used to make those shoes. . . and then those delicate nicked fingers of the omega.Â
Aryan’s gaze tilted to his finger of the arm in his hold. . . they still had cut marks, they were healed.
“That’s what you wanted to tell me?†Aryan’s gaze darted at him. Â
“Yes.†The omega said. “Today, finally I have my Chamatkar store, where I can make more shoes and sell them as well. I want you to know this. It wouldn’t have been possible without you. And I don’t want you to learn it from someone, but from me. Officially, you are the first person I have told. . . otherwise, your mother, my mother, Shiva knows, or maybe Rohini also knows, since she follows me around mostly.†A flush crept up his face. The pounding his heart growing fast.Â
“Say something . . . †Omega begged him.Â
Aryan chuckled under his breath. His face drew to the omega’s face. “I’m glad you told me,†Aryan said, his voice coming out as a sensual whisper.Â
The omega caught his breath when Aryan tilted his head forward, close to his mouth. Still holding his delicate arm in his grasp. His dark gaze flickered at him, and Aryan found those chestnut brown flickered to life with desires that were surging through him. He waited for his wife to step back. But he remained, waiting for . . . him. This sight of his wife, he’d never known, simply intrigued and fascinated him, yet concerned, because of his nicked fingers. An urge rolled hard and desperate in his heart to hold and pressed those lips of his beautiful wife against his own.
And just like that, he leaned and locked those beautiful plump lips with his own.Â
