After putting the little guy to sleep, Aryan went back to do work in the study room. His eyes would glance at the gift over and over again as he smiled to himself, as he waited for Chandra to come, who was busy with the late night papad making tradition.
Upon seeing the clock strike midnight, he was uncertain about the duration of his wife’s return. So after a while, getting impatient with all this waiting, Aryan stood up as he decided to head to the main dining hall.
But in the living room, the elevator door opened. Chandra looked completely worn out as his eyes were drowsy. As he exited the elevator. It was good that he wasn’t limping with his one leg anymore, that meant his sprained ankle was getting better.
The omega seemed slightly startled when his eyes found Aryan in the living room.
“Is your ankle okay?” Aryan asked.
With a low nod, the omega answered and said, “You haven’t slept yet.”
“I thought to give you a massage,” Aryan said in a tone that suggested something mischievous.
A subtle rosiness was tinted on his pale cheeks. And those copper brown eyes of his demurred, as he stole his gaze sideways from his own while tugging a strand of his silky hair behind his ear. Then he looked at Aryan back, yet not looking him in the eyes. “No need for it-Bhavana Bua had applied the ointment already,” the omega said. “I’m very sleepy. I must head to my bed. Good night, sir.”
“Night,” Aryan said. But as the omega left in the living room, Aryan believed that his wife was avoiding him. Or he was reading in it too much, since the omega was exhausted and just wanted to get a good sleep.
The next morning, Aryan woke up early as always and went to the gym that was in a corner in the hallway. When he came back into his room after hours of workout, he saw his wife coming out of the bathroom after a warm bath. His heart racing wild as Aryan candidly watched his wife; the omega was toweling his wet hair, sticking to his neck. He was wearing a pair of the loose black trousers and the baggy yellow knitted sweater that was hiding his slender, curvy body. His cheeks were rosy and his lips were plumbed, which seems very kissable at the moment. He wanted to taste them again. When Chandra’s eyes met his own, he was startled again, yet not in a frightening way, yet there was something in those eyes of his, but Aryan couldn’t figure it out.
“Morning,” his wife uttered that word in the softest tone as his lips tilted into a smile.
“Morning.”
That’s all, they had shared a little moment, and their son entered the room, who had a day off as it was Sunday and as well the little guy’s bua’s lagun function, he briefed his mother that Nana and Nani were here. Chandra had a full-blown-up smile on his face, knowing his parents had arrived.
So again, Aryan failed to have any interaction with his wife.
At breakfast, Aryan also greeted his mother-in-law and father-in-law with Namaste while touching their feet.
And with the arrival of more guests, who will stay till the wedding, Aryan was unable to even meet his own wife. Being the wife of Aryan, Chandra was the center of the attention of half of the people who had been interested in him. Chandra had not interacted with anyone else before, not in an amiable way .. . or in any way.
Aryan was sitting among his relatives, who talked that was worth not his attention, and nor did he have any interest. The only reason he was here was to get his wife’s attention. Chandra, next to his mother, Diya was on the other side of the lounge hall and with others. He wanted his wife to look his way. Never once did Aryan desperately desire a person’s attention on himself, ever as Chandra’s, apparently whose attention was on everyone but his own husband.
Amidst the social gathering, the omega appeared detached with his absentminded eyes. Despite this, he would politely smile at anyone who spoke to him. Then his gaze would time to time turn outside through the ceiling to floor window where, in the outside garden, Shivam was playing tag with other kids. At the sight of his son, a smile lit up across his face.
Through the window, Shivam met his mother’s gaze. The boy had a grin. Using his hand, he signaled for his mother to join and play with them. And Chandra mouthed the little guy okay.
The omega said to his mother what Aryan reckoned that he was telling her that he would be outside in the garden.
There in the garden, they were playing a blind man’s buff game when Chandra blindfolded Shivam with a red piece of cloth and spun the guy on him several times before the omega stepped back. Surrounding Shivam, other players playfully called out to him, teasing him with their voices. Chandra called for him. The omega radiated with beautiful laughter as he called out to the guy, but he didn’t move from his place and let the little one catch him.
Then Shivam blindfolded his mother with that red piece of cloth and his wife tied it to his own eyes and spun him the same way as Shivam was spun before.
Aryan rose from the couch after putting down the tea cup on the table.
In the garden, Chandra moved back and forth in response to the children’s calls from different directions. Aryan’s body rested against a stone sculpture, his arms crossed over bis chest, as he watched his wife with amusement in his eyes. As the departing winter sunlight cast a glow on the omega making him like an angel. His hands stretched out to touch, looking for a new prey at the calling of kids, but he would end up with nothing.
The air vibrated with the laughter of the kids and his wife’s presence. The person who had captivated Aryan’s heart with his each and every moment.
His eyes just couldn’t stop looking at the omega.
There was a sense of stillness in his body as I watched him in that manner.
How can a person make him feel this way . . . it’s just a magic.
Shivam’s steps wandered back toward Aryan as he called out for his mother and the omega’s steps turned in the direction of Aryan. Just as the omega was about to capture the little guy, he managed to flee. But the omega stumbled up on his feet and Aryan wound up taking him in his arms around his waist before he could taste the floor while the omega’s hand ended up over his chest.
“Be careful,” Aryan’s voice was gentle.
Chandra removed the red cloth covering his eyes, revealing his copper-brown eyes that met his own gaze. The omega’s chest rose and dropped in ragged breaths, Aryan could hear his pulse racing against his ribcage.
A smile was tucked on Aryan’s face.
“Mommy, are you okay?” Shivam asked, followed by other children.
The omega pushed himself away from Aryan as if he had a plague.
His wife demurely averted his gaze from Aryan, while using his forefinger to tuck a strand of hair behind the ear.
“Yes. Bachha, I am okay,” Chandra replied to him.
Aryan once again noticed a slight blush on the side of his face. It wasn’t there a moment ago, so it’s not because of the warmth of the sun.
“So, whose turn this time,” asked one of the children.
And all the eyes turned to Aryan.
Chandra pressed hisi lips together from laughing.
“Okay, I will play,” Aryan said, surrendering his hands.
“Then do your best to catch those little devils.” Chandra smiled, handing him the blindfold.
“You are not playing?” A brow of Aryan cocked.
“No. I might trip my leg again and get a sprain,” Chandra said and then whispered, “Also, some are looking at us from the window.”
“There is nothing wrong with giving them a little show,” Aryan said, his smile deepening. “And they will know things are more than okay between us, whoever thinks things aren’t okay between us.” He once had overheard some guests saying that they both didn’t have a relationship like a husband and wife in his sister’s engagement, which Aryan couldn’t deny.
But now, it’s not like that.
Chandra went inside after he said, “They got enough to know.”
So, Aryan spent some time playing with the kids while his wife left him.
By the evening everyone went to get ready for Lagun functions. And for Aryan’s knowledge, Chandra was getting ready where his mother was getting ready, which was her room.
“What’s that Papa?” Shivam asked him. His gaze went to the red case of Chandra’s gift on a table. They were in the lavish wardrobe where Aryan was getting ready for tonight’s function after getting Shivam ready.
While Aryan buttoned the waistcoat that matched all his off-white outfits, a three-piece suit. Through the reflection of the full-length mirror, Aryan watched his son as he answered him,
“A gift for your mother,”
“What did you get for him?”
“Open it and see yourself?” Aryan said, grabbing his coat from the hanger.
The boy opened the case with excitement.
“Two necklaces?” The boy blinked and looked back at Aryan.
Aryan chuckled, “No. They are not the necklaces. They are payal, made to wear on ankles.”
“Like what Nani and Dadi are wearing. Right?”
“Right,” Aryan smiled. “So, do you think your mother would like them?”
“I never saw mommy wearing payal.” The boy pressed his lips together.
That’s not the assuring reply Aryan was looking for. But he had seen the omega wearing them once, but his boy didn’t need to know this.
“But they are very pretty,” his son added.
The second Aryan’s eyes landed on the person coming through the door of his room, he forgot to breathe. He couldn’t tear his gaze away from the breathtaking sight of his wife; he was wearing a peach pink jacket with embroidered flowers over the silky off-white top that was tucked underneath the high waist peach pink cropped pants on his slim and slender waist, and his feet were in the two-inch sandals.
And with those outfits, a soft and impalpable make on his face made him gorgeous. Aryan liked what they had done with his medium-length hair, with layers of cuts, tousled, soft flowing waves giving volume and enhancing his soft and delicate face.
“Are you a fairy?” Shivam’s eyes looked at his mother without blinking.
Chandra couldn’t help but smile. “No. Why?” He asked, bending over toward the little guy.
“You are very pretty, just like a fairy.”
Chandra laughed. “And, sir, you also looked like the most handsome guy.”
“More than Papa?” Shivam asked, his words coming out as whispered, so his father couldn’t hear him, but Aryan heard his son very explicitly.
“Hm, more than your Papa,” he replied. His tone was soft and low as the same level of their son.
As Chandra straightened back, he glanced at Aryan finally. “We should go now,” he said.
“Before that I have something for you,” Aryan said, handing forward the case from his pocket.
Without uttering a word, Chandra took it from him. He opened the case and his eyes fixated on those payal. There was a trace of confusion on his face.
Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to buy him this.
“If you don’t like-“
“No. I love them.” The omega raised his gaze. “I was just surprised-“
“That I brought a gift for you?” Aryan’s word broke in on.
Chandra shook his head, a smile glimmering on his face. “I love them,” he murmured.
“May I put those on you?” Aryan asked.
The omega handed him the payal, silently nodding his head.
Aryan adorned his ankles with those payal, and they looked just as stunning as he had imagined.
He rose to his feet and glanced back at his wife. “They suit you.”
With a smile, the omega brushed a strand of hair behind the ear. A blush was creeping over his face. This time Aryan cottoned on to the fact that his wife wasn’t avoiding him, but he felt conscious of him. Joy spread through him like a warm light as he figured out his wife’s peculiar behavior toward him.
It’s possible that the omega felt the same way.
