Reader POV
Another day started without hearing Clemont’s voice. It got me so uninspired, especially with the next Prince’s cup being announced, in Dendimille town. I had realised, I needed to improve, drastically. But, I didn’t know where to start. The group had gone to the battlefield to practice. I saw Serena having idea’s sprout from everywhere. But I was stumped, I felt like crying. I had nothing, but I wanted to use Swablu and Pampour for this one. I had them out of their pokeballs and I sat down on the grass with them. I drew blanks to everything.
“Gah!” I screamed, falling back and kicking my legs up in the air. I couldn’t think of anything. I was getting so stressed out. So, I got up and left, I had Pampour and Swablu both in their pokeballs, and left, without a word. I think not having clemont with us was starting to affect me.
I walked into the town centre and sat on the edge of the fountain, I briefly looked into it, hoping that the solution to my problems were in there. Upon staring blankly at the fountain, I heard a voice next to me.
“Staring at a plain fountain won’t help you very much.” I turned to see a scrawny looking blonde man, he had on him a hoodie and a pair of jeans. I was quite startled by his actions and almost fell into the fountain, but he managed to catch me before I could.
“I’m so sorry.” I apologised. “I’m just in a bit of a state right now.”Â
“That’s fine, I can help.” The man chuckled. “When I get sad, food always helps!”Â
Hearing his voice again, it sounded very familiar, but I couldn’t pinpoint who he was. “What’s your name, may I ask?”
“Pier-Peter!” The man stuttered, tugging at his drawstrings. He then took my hand and began to run, I had no idea where we were going but we were going somewhere.Â
Once we arrived, I looked at the sign to the cafe we were at. It was one of the most expensive coffee shops in the whole of the Kalos region. We went in and were guided to our seats, they looked outwards to a lake, many pokemon inhabited the area, it was a beautiful sight to see.
“So, what’s gotten you so gloomy?” The man asked. Sipping on his Roserade tea.
“I’m just not doing well, one of my closest friends has left us for a bit, I’m struggling to create an epic freestyle performance for the next pokemon showcase and the worst of all! My dreams are starting to crumble.” I sighed, taking a bite out of my combee cookie.
“I remember seeing you at the showcase in Coumarine City.” He remarked.
“Don’t remind me of that shambolic performance.” I looked away from the blonde guy.
“C’mon, it wasn’t that bad. It just wasn’t that memorable.” Peter said.
“It certainly was memorable, for being the shittiest performance in the world.” I huffed. “I don’t want to do it anymore.”
“Don’t say that! It was your first performance.” Peter tried to get through to me but I didn’t want to listen.
“I’m scared!” A tear fell onto my cookie, followed by another one. “I’m scared that I’m going to fuck it up again.”
“Hey, if you think like that, your not going to go anywhere, not today, not anywhere, monsieur!” Peter lifted my head up and wiped the tears from my eyes. “I tell you what, how about we have a double pokemon battle?”
“A double pokemon battle? How’s that going to help with my mood?” I asked.
“Its not about your mood. Its about how you communicate with your pokemon. Seeing them battle alongside you can really help express creative visions.” Peter said, we got up and walked towards the battlefield. One of the waitresses agreed to referee.
“This is the battle between pokemon trainer Peter and pokemon trainer Y/n. This will be a double battle, the battle ending in both pokemon on either side are unable to continue.” The waitress announced, people on the balcony decided to watch the battle too. The waitress flipped a coin for who started, I was given the pleasure of starting the battle. “Battle begin!”
“Pampour, Swablu! Take centre stage.” I shouted.
“Klefki and Masquerain, front and centre!” Peter threw his pokeballs out onto the field. His team looked oddly familiar.
“Pampour! Use Acrobatics on Masquerain!” I said. “Swablu, use aerial ace on Klefki!”
Before my team could execute the commands Peter had already had something up his sleeve. “Klefki! Use Trick room! Follow that up with Flash cannon on Swablu! As for you Masquerain, use Energy ball on Pampour!”
I panicked for a second before regaining my control. I moved my hand to the side and shouted. “Swablu! Use Steel wing on Masquerain! Pampour, Use attract!”
My pokemon obeyed my command, but with such little prevail. They were getting pretty beaten up badly, The trick room wasn’t doing much favour. Nor was the Masquerain’s immense speed. I was losing the control fast, and I was drawing blanks to everything.
“Did I forget to tell you that I’m a pokemon performer too?” Peter giggled.Â
“Now I see.” I looked at the way his pokemon worked with each other, it was subtle but I somehow managed to pick up on it. Its the terrain! They use the terrain to their advantages, and they roll with the situations.
“Well, I think we can wrap this up quite quickly, don’t you think?” Peter looked at the audience, who cheered for him. “Masquerain! Use sunny day and then wrap this up with Solar beam!”
“Not on my watch! Swablu! Use Steel wing and reflect that Solar beam to Klefki!” I shouted, I noticed a smirk come from Peter. “Pampour, use ice beam on the floor! Then use Hydro pump towards the sky!”Â
My team followed my obscure commands, The solar beam reflection managed to take out the klefki in one shot. Suddenly, the battlefield was covered in a layer of ice. And it was also now raining thanks to the Hydro pump.
“I don’t know what your playing at but its not funny!” Peter took a step back, I had finally got control of some of the battlefield.
“Let’s finish this guys! Pampour use ice beam!” I shouted. However, the Masquerian reflected it and the Ice beam had frozen Swablu’s wings and Pampours feet. I went completely off track as to how I was going to finish the battle. “Pampour, use acrobatics on Masquerain! Swablu use Aerial ace!”
My pokemon executed the moves perfectly. Causing extra damaged to the opposition by using the jagged frozen parts of their bodies. Which also ended up breaking the ice around their feet and wings.
“Quick thinking!” Peter smirked. “No matter! Masquerain! Use Signal beam!”
“Time for the exquisit envoi!” I shouted, adrenaline fueling my body. “Swablu! Use Solar beam! Pampour use Hydro pump!”
As they used the moves, they collided into one and created a spectacle, whilst also attacking the opposing pokemon, making it faint. As the attacks landed, the battlefield lit up with applauds and beautiful multi-coloured sparkles, which fell down on my pokemon. As soon as I saw both that Masquerain had fainted I ran into the battlefield and hugged my pokemon tightly.
“Masquerain and Klefki have fainted, the win goes to Y/n!” The waitress announced.
“That was stunning, monsieur.” Peter clapped. “The way you changed your battle style was phenomenal. That type of thing, you could use it in you’re pokemon performances.”Â
“Thank you peter, I appreciate it.” I chuckled. We had now made it out of the cafe.
“No problem.” Soon, a Limo pulled up for Peter. As he began to get into the Limo, he said. “Y/n? You said that you’re goal is to become the Kalos king?”
“Yeah? What about it?” I asked, confused.
“Well then, I guess I’ll see you at the Master cup.” The odd man winked at me and pulled out a card. “Call me anytime Y/n.”Â
As he drove off, I looked down at the card I held. I went faint at the sight of it. It read.
To Y/n…
This card is for you to use when your struggling with inspiration, not that you need the help though. I would love to see what you can come up with in your later performances. You have a great deal of talent, kid.
Best wishes, and remember, change isn’t always a bad thing, its a time to adapt to new things.
-Monsieur Pierre, Kalos King.
