Reader POV

After the thrilling battle between Ash and Clemont, we were delighted to be reunited with the electric type gym leader. I felt elated that he was with us again. I got kinda down when he wasn’t with us. However, as it was one of our last days in Lumiose City, we had decided to visit professor Sycamore. I was looking forward to see him again. On our walk I noticed across the street, a boy, with a Hydreigon. I got the shivers as it brought me back to the day I met swablu, who was coincidentally sat on my head, it looked to where I was looking and hid in my overalls. 

“What’s with Swablu Y/n?” Bonnie asked, worriedly.

“Its nothing, I’m sure…” I turned around to the both the boy and the hydreigon had disappeared. 

As we got into the huge lab, it was awfully quiet. That was until the professor sprung out from behind a bookshelf.

“Hello all! Its good to see you again!” The professor chuckled. “Just in time, as we are about to do an experiment, come this way.”

We went into the laboratory and the professor revealed the experiment. It was a key stone, and a mega stone. He said he was going to get a pokemon to mega evolve.

“What about swablu?” I asked the professor.

“Whilst its true that Altaria can Mega evolve, swablu still needs to evolve. If you had both stones, I could check the mega stone to make sure it is an Altarianite.

Suddenly, the windows were smashed in and both of the stones were taken. A huge mechanical meowth had appeared and Team rocket had blasted out of it. They ended up flying off with both of the stones. Ash managed to throw a tracker on the machine, which we could use to find where the thieves were.

“They made off with everything!” Serena gasped.

“Swablu, follow that machine!” I said, swablu flying off of my shoulder and chasing after it. Whilst mid flight, A beam of pink-ish light shot towards swablu, but it missed. I slightly panicked but my nerves quickly cooled as we were ushered into a car, off to find Garchomp.

“I hope Swablu is alright.” I whispered.

After a while of searching, we found Garchomp and Swablu, However they both seemed in a bad state. Both of them seemed to be in some sort of trance, Swablu was in such pain, I could feel it.

“I can’t just stand here and see my pokemon get hurt!” I shouted. I quickly jumped down the cliff face, a dangerous act. “Swablu!”

I managed to pick up my swablu but got an aerial ace in return. But we managed to eventually calm the pokemon down. Thanks to Blaziken man, who we met a couple of days ago. It was thanks to him that we survived. Team rocket had blasted off once more, however, the peace didn’t last long as we heard a cry, which terrified me to the bone, same with my Swablu.

“Well, well, well.” We all turned to see that hydreigon, but this time, the owner, who was so familiar to me, sitting on top of it. “Tch, still scared as usual Y/n.” 

“Piss off Stevie. I want nothing to do with you.” I sighed.

“And there I was, thinking that You’re parents made good use of you and sent you away to the Opelucid Academy.” Steve chuckled, getting off of his aggressive pokemon. 

“Is that the kid who hurt Swablu?” Serena asked.

“You guessed it, I was proud of it too.” Stevie’s evil laugh still brought back traumatic memories.

“How vile of you!” The professor repulsed.

“That’s not how you treat pokemon!” Ash shouted.

“That’s how I treat them, and now that you’re here Y/n. I want my prize back.” He was referring to swablu, which made me sick to my stomach.

“No, I’m not giving Swablu to you.” I began to turn away.

“Hydreigon use stone edge!” Stevie barked, Hydreigon ended up blocking the canyon of our escape. “You can’t run away again.” 

“Pikachu, use thunderbolt!” I heard ash say, I blocked pikachu from using the move.

“Let’s settle this, with a pokemon battle.” I huffed.

“Tch, what’s the point.” Stevie walked towards the end of the canyon and prepared for the battle.

“You sure you got this Y/n?” Clemont asked.

“Yes, when you were gone, I got down some serious training.” I chuckled.

“Really?” the blonde was stunned.

“No…” I admitted, turning around and facing Stevie and the Hydreigon.

“The battle between Stevie and Y/n is about to get underway. Each team may use only one pokemon each, the battle ends when either sides’ pokemon is unable to battle any further.” Professor Sycamore announced. “Battle begin!”

Hydreigon started off by using crunch, which swablu tried to avoid, but it wasn’t fast enough. Immediately, I was in deep trouble.

“Swablu, use Cotton guard!” I shouted. “And again!”

After two rounds of cotton guards, Swablu was still getting hurt by hydreigons’ relentless attacks.

“Use brutal swing!” Stevie instructed his Hydreigon. The brute of a Hydreigon kept up the relentless attack, without instruction by Stevie.Even if I tried to do anything, nothing would work. I was slowly starting to lose hope, a tear fell from my eye as I saw swablu had landed next to me. I collapsed to the floor, feeling extremely defeated. At this point, I was close to giving up, but I remembered that I had all of my chosen family watching me.

“Seems like your in a bit of a bad position.” Stevie mocked me. “Giving up yet?”

“Never.” I choked on my words. “Me and Swablu have come too far together to part ways yet.”

“Swablu? Do you still have enough in you to give an encore?” I looked at my hurt Swablu. It nodded in its reply. “That’s my partner.”

“Go on Y/n!” I heard everyone shout from the sidelines.

“How gay.” Stevie chuckled.

“We will be stronger than you will ever be stevie!” I stood up and swablu did the same. “Now, Swablu! Give them an encore they’ll never forget! Use Aerial Ace!”

“Tch, Hydreigon use Dragon rush!” Within seconds, Hydreigon and Swablu were crashing into each other, head to head.

“Come on Swablu! You can do it!” I shouted. “I believe in you! Olympia believes in you! SHE BELIEVES IN US!”

I screamed until there was no air left in my lungs. It was as if my screaming had helped the next event. As an immense blue light lit up the battlefield, I couldn’t believe what was happening.

“Its Evolving!” Everyone on the sideline gasped.

“All that time, we spent together, preparing for this moment. And its finally come.” I cried tears of pure joy.

After the light dispersed, the rebound caused the Hydreigon to spring into the wall. My new beautiful pokemon had emerged. It flew with grace and much decorum. I scanned it through my pokedex and noticed a new move.

“Altaria, the humming pokemon. Altaria builds power by humming and can release a deafening blast of sound from its beak.” I read from the pokedex.

“Grr, Hydreigon get up and fight!” Stevie shouted, throwing a rock at his Hydreigon. Hydreigon got up and started to use a hyper beam.

“Altaria, use that new move of yours.” I smiled widely. “Altaria! Use Moonblast!”

After matter of seconds, Altaria had used its beautiful moonblast, drawing energy from the sky and creating a powerful blast of energy, which was directed towards the hydreigon. Hydreigon had used its hyper beam but to no avail. The moonblast was much stronger, it also managed to take down the Hydreigon in one.

“Hydreigon is unable to continue. And with great pleasure, the winner is Y/n!” After hearing those words, I jumped into my altaria’s arms. I was so happy, they day had finally came. Altaria wrapped its neck around me and hugged me tightly. I looked at Stevie who had kicked his Hydreigon into waking it up. I marched over to him and looked at him.

“You are a disgusting piece of shit.” I said, I then started to walk away.

“Run away little boy, I might get Hydreigon to hyper beam you in a second.” Stevie laughed.

I quickly turned around and forcefully punched him in the nose. He fell to the ground, his nose began to bleed. I then turned to his Hydreigon, walking up to it, it seemed very subdued. 

“I’m sorry for what he’s done to you, hydreigon.” I held an oran berry out to it, which it received and ended up smiling slightly.

“Don’t go anywhere near my pokemon!” Stevie tried to make Hydreigon return into its pokeball but the pokemon refused. “Hydreigon! You follow my orders! Get in the ball!”

“Hydreigon is sick at the way you treat it.” Ash said.

“Doesn’t matter anymore.” Stevie shook his head, he then did the unexpected, he took his pokeball and smashed it to the ground, which ended up releasing Hydreigon. “I’m done with you losers. I’ll find a pokemon which will do what I want it to.”

Stevie then made his exit, which left me with his Hydreigon. The professor came up next to me and asked.

“Hydreigon, come with me and garchomp, and you can help us with our research and befriend lots of pokemon.” The professor held up a pokeball, of which the hydreigon immediately jumped into. It was caught in less than 5 seconds.

When we got back to the lab, I smiled at the fact that the events today happened so well. It made me so happy. But now, we needed to say goodbye, and off to Laverre City, for Ashes’ 6th Gym badge. We waved goodbye to the professor, but on his way out, he handed me two gifts.

“Y/n, have these.” He said. “Its a gift from me to you for helping me catch Hydreigon.”

“Thank you sir, can I open them?” I asked.

“Open them when you decide mega evolving might be a good idea.” He chuckled. We next parted ways, I stared down at the gifts, wondering what they could be.
