I wake up late the next day and dread going to work.

Tonight?

Lucas, my friend with benefits texts me. Other days I would be excited but not today. Sex and alcohol are the only things that I have in life. It is sad and pathetic, however, they add colour to my dull and dark life.

Work. Busy.

I respond.

Today, I opt for trousers. Something out of the ordinary clothes I wear. I want to appear serious and pretend like nothing happened when I meet Mr. Thorne. And pants presents that face better than my tight short skirts.

As I step outside my building, I spot a parked black limousine. Thoughts reel in my head. What if it is the person that was following us last night. A possibility I had not considered occurred in my mind after Mr. Thorne had left. It could have been one of my clients. Some were never satisfied with my service and would swear hell on earth for me if, they ever uncovered who I was. Others who defaulted on payment and I would in return turn my revenge on them. And lastly, some men that I led on were no happy when they learned of intentions.

However, when a familiar face steps out. My worry shifts to just two people. It is the driver for the Thorne family. It is either Cassandra or her husband, Mr. Thorne. I hope it is none of them. I regret what happened last night and I am not ready to face Cassandra. She didn’t define to me the line I shouldn’t cross and I am sure sleeping with her husband was not what she meant when she said, make him fall for you and break his heart.

“Miss…” He trails thinking of my surname that I rarely use.

“Call me Katerina.” I smile nervously my eyes flickering to the limousine rolled up windows.

“Mr. Thorne asked me to pick you.” He says and I sigh in relief but again another thought pops up. What if he now expects a reoccurrence of what happened last night? Or now he thinks of me as his mistress? I neither want any of those possibilities.

I decide that what I will tell him that. He may fire me but maybe that will be a good thing and Cassandra will also leave me alone.

I grunt frustrated that my morning is getting sombre by my thoughts.

The driver follows me and opens the door and gladly step in. I can as well enjoy my job’s perks one last time.

I settle comfortably and it comes to life. I focus on my phone distracting myself from thinking too much of what awaits me.

After some time the limousine stops and my door is opened. I step out and glance around confused. We are outside a mall, I glance over at the driver in hopes he will see my confusion and give me answers.

“Come with me.” He says.

This morning is becoming weird and weirder. He glances me over his shoulder when he notes I am not following him. He cocks a brow and I throw my head back rolling my eyes but, still follow him.

I step on the escalator behind him and it deliver us on the first floor. I look around hoping to find a clue as to why we are here. On Mr. Thorne’s calendar, particularly today, there was no agenda about visiting the mall.

We step inside a clothing store. The girl behind the counter immediately recognizes him. Her lips stretch into a welcoming smile. She bends and lifts shopping bags placing them on the counter. Her eyes move past the driver to me, assessing me. She purses her lips satisfied with her findings.

“That is all.” She says.

The driver smiles at her flirtishly. She in turns sizes him up and down giving him a sweet smile.

He inspects the shopping bag while I watch everything like a spectator. I am dying with curiosity and seems like I won’t be getting any answers soon.

“See you around Mel,” He says softly and she blushes.

It is adorable and I even feel that warmth that comes during the early stages of a relationship. I miss that. Sadly, I may never get to feel way that again.

When we get back at the limousine. The driver hands me over the shopping bags without any instructions. They probably belong to Cassandra. Men have been known to buy gifts to their wives after a screw up. He did cheat on his wife with me. Gifts must be how he eases his conscience. I wouldn’t be surprised, he is a narcissist.

The next drive to our destination, I fight with curiosity not to peek inside the bags. I am glad when it stops as I feel more ready and capable to face both Cassandra and Mr. Thorne compared to an hour ago.

Again, surprise hits me when I step outside an airstrip. The driver steps aside to talk on his phone and over hear him mention that I am here.

Fear engulfs me, what if it this is an abduction?

“Where are we going?” I decide to ask the driver when he comes back. It is a bit too late to ask now but I rather know than wish I did.

“I am just obeying the instructions.” He says picking up the shopping bags and walking towards the jet.

“By who?” I rush after him, my heels making it a challenge.

He turn and glares at me, “The boss, Mr. Thorne.” He states and resumes walking towards the jet.

We mount it and I find Mr. Thorne seated inside the jet which I guess he owns it. He lifts his head making a double check on me like he is seeing me for the first time.

The driver places the shopping bags on the seat.

“That’s all Eddie, making sure he you inform the other of what we agreed upon.” Mr. Thorne informs his driver who nods and leaves.

I am left standing perplexed what my role is here.

“You can sit.” Mr. Thorne oders without lifting his head from his tablet.

“Not until you tell me what I am doing here.” I fold my arms on my chest.

“What do you think you are doing here?” The darn egoistical man still feels he is too special to look at me.

“If it is about last night …” I start.

“What about last night?” He cuts me short. “Nothing happened and it should be that way to my wife.” He finally looks up, his eyes meeting mine and I can’t look away. His gaze has been imprinted in my mind from last night as I rode him.

I look around embarrassed that, I thought he brought me here because of last night. Of course I would turn him down, but my pride is wounded that he beat me to it.

“Understood.” I say, stopping my voice from cracking. “Where are we going? I didn’t get the chance to pack.” I ask.

“There is one more passenger and I will tell you when we get there.” He states.

Just after his last word, a girl steps in. She seems surprised when she sees me. I remember her from the club, Cassandra did hint that she was Mr. Thorne’s mistress.

She recovers from her surprise and rushes past me to Mr. Thorne.

“This looks so different from the last time I was here.” She throws her hand in the air, twirling around.

“I just replaced the seats.” Mr. Thorne announces, leaning back on his seat.

“I can’t wait till we get there.” She drops to sit on the sit beside him.

When the door shuts, I sit on the seat in front of both of them. I am in a private jet with a man I slept with and his mistress. I pray that our next destination will answer all my questions.
