•A FEW MONTHS LATER•

“I can’t wait to watch this film! I heard it’s better than The Notebook!” Emily gushed.

Clive only smiled at her as they made their way into the cinema Luke and Nasir following in suit chatting away like the best friends they now were. Turns out they did have a lot in common from many shared interest to fucking their respective lovers senseless.

The four of them were on something Emily liked to call a ‘double date’.
“I’ll get us tickets.” Emily beamed as she walked away leaving behind a rather awkward Nasir with the lovey dovey Clive and Luke.

“Get us back seats so we can make out.” Luke yelled after Emily, earning a light punch and glare from Clive.

“I’ll get the scran.” Nasir said, smiling weakly.

•••

“Did you really get us back seats?” Clive asked Emily as the four of them made it towards their seats.

“You’ll be surprised no one really wants to watch this film,” Emily replied.

“I’m not surprised.” Nasir commented to which Emily responded with a sarcastic smile.

They made it to their seats, Luke to the far left with Clive next to him, Emily taking the seat to Clive’s right, having Nasir next to her on the other side.
Once they had settled down they began munching on the food even though the film hadn’t started to play like everyone who ever went to the cinema.

•••

They were nearing the end of the film and Clive was bored out of his mind. He looked to his right to find Nasir fast asleep and Emily on the verge of tears as the female protagonist cried on her bedroom floor for reasons Clive did not know.
He turned to face Luke hoping he could get that make out session Luke had spoken about prior to the start of the god awful film but was fully disappointed to find Luke just as immersed in the plot as Emily.

Luke turned to face Clive with a pained expression, “why would he do that to her?” He asked in a whisper.

Clive groaned as he dragged his hands down his face in frustration.
Luke sensed Clive’s frustration and leaned in to whisper in his ears, “he just denied having feelings for her over the phone.”

Clive slowly turned to face Luke with his hands still on his face, “oh is it?” He asked bitterly.

Luke softly chuckled as he grabbed Clive’s hand lacing their fingers before placing a sincere kiss on the back of Clive’s hand.

“Please tell me you’d rather make out.” Clive pleaded as he looked at Luke with eager eyes.

“Any day.” Luke replied and soon they were eating each other’s face but silently so as to not disturb the others.

It had been months since they had started seeing each other but neither of them could shake off the feeling that each kiss incited within their being. Every kiss only grew sweeter and sweeter as their love for each other grew stronger and stronger.
Neither of them understood how people fell out of love so often, it just didn’t make sense to them because with every new day they learned to love each other a little more.

“I love you.”

They froze as the male protagonist of the film voiced both of their thoughts. Luke turned in his seat to face the screen, “well, he finally said it so I guess the films over then.” He said with an anxious laugh hoping he didn’t seem suspicious.

“SHHH!” Emily harshly whispered beside Clive as she stared at the screen with heart eyes simultaneously awakening a sleepy Nasir who took a minute to familiarise himself with the surroundings.

‘Blasted male protagonist choosing to reconcile with his lover right in the middle of when we were necking.’ Luke cursed inwardly as he awaited for the final agonising minutes of the film.

He turned to look at Clive who bashfully looked away, pretending to be suddenly interested in the film all with his cheeks turning a visible pink under the dim light. Luke wondered how he had got so lucky as his gaze lingered on the boy for a little longer. He was in love with Clive.

The film was over and Nasir was full of spirit as he practically jumped out of his seat. “Let’s get ice cream!” He exclaimed.

They made it all the way to the park, Nasir having his arm protectively wrapped around Emily who wouldn’t stop telling him how much she liked the film as he placed loving kisses to her head.

Luke and Clive on the other hand had hardly exchanged a single word. They walked beside each other robotically, occasionally sending each other tight lipped smiles. Clive probably had enough after a while, he grabbed Luke’s hand tugging the latter closer to him as he nonchalantly continued to walk.

They sat themselves down on one of the vacant picnic tables of the park as Nasir dragged Clive to get their ice cream.

“I got you tickets hoping you’d actually watch the film.” Emily said, shaking her head at Luke once they were left alone.

“It was a good film,” Emily narrowed her eyes at him, “up until Clive and I decided to make out.” He added barely audible.

Nasir and Clive made their way back to the table, Nasir handed Emily her cone after which he fully disconnected from the world as he relished his chocolate one.

Clive silently took a seat beside Luke, handing him his rainbow swirl ice cream.
Luke fondly recalled the first time they’d hung out at the park and how he had been embarrassed to pick his favourite ice cream, he lovingly looked over at Clive who was now well versed with every single one of Luke’s likes and dislikes.

The four of them chatted away about school and what not as they enjoyed their ice cream.

“Let’s grab some lunch.” Nasir suggested.

“It’s almost dinner time Nasir.” Emily replied, rolling her eyes but smiling at him nonetheless. “You two wanna join?” She directed toward Luke and Clive.

“Go on without us.” Clive smiled as he waved them goodbye.

Once Nasir and Emily were gone Luke turned to face Clive, “wanna relive day one and get the greasiest chips ever.” He chuckled.

Clive smiled at the mention of their first day as proper friends.

They got their chips and went in search for a more secluded spot in the park, they plopped themselves down under a massive tree and began to dig in.

The sun was just about to set as they finished their meal. They sat in silence taking in the pleasant spring sun as they stared off into the sky.

Luke found a little daisy and plucked it, handing it over to Clive, “For you.” He said romantically, accenting his words.

Clive gingerly held onto it, looking back at Luke with a silly grin as Luke tipped his imaginary hat.

“Luke?”

“Yes.”

“I love you.”

Luke’s smile fell as he stared at Clive, “But…I love you,” he said confusedly, like they were competing in some sort of love contest and Clive had managed to beat him just like that.

Clive laughed heartily, “come on it’s getting dark.” He said placing the flower behind his ears before getting up.

“How do I look?” He asked, modelling his new look.

“I love you.” Luke replied still in a trance.

Clive shook his head smiling widely as he helped Luke onto his feet.

They made their way to the exit when they spotted Carol with her little brother by the play park.

They were all good friends now that the misunderstandings were resolved. Clive walked over to where she was sitting to greet her. Luke followed in his footsteps.

“Why has he got a flower in his head?” Luke heard one of the kids snicker. “Flowers are only for girls.” The kid said smugly.

Luke had a good mind to give them a piece of his mind but knew Clive wouldn’t approve of him beating up a kid so he placed his foot in the little pests path in hopes of having him trip, which he did.

He fell to the ground and began to cry rather loudly. Luke hurriedly made his way out of the scene, taking his rightful place beside Clive.

He sent Carol a smile and got one back in return, she looked past his shoulder at the commotion Clive followed her gaze to look behind him.

“Aw poor lad, did he trip?” Clive asked, voice laced with concern.

“Deserved it…” Luke muttered under his breath.

“Anyways, it was nice seeing you Carol!” Clive exclaimed as he draped his arm around Luke dragging the boy out of the park.

They laughed and chatted all the way to Luke’s house and when it was time to say goodbye Clive pulled Luke into a bone crushing hug. He pulled back and smiled at the boy he loved.

Luke snaked his arms around Clive’s waist pulling the boy back in as he caught his lips in a deep kiss.
And the fact that they were now fully aware of each other’s love made the kiss the sweetest they’ve ever shared.
