KIM CHAEWON
a month later

It’s been a month since Ms. Huh came to work at our school. I am honestly thankful she was hired. She’s really good at her job. Eunchae and I had definitely grown closer as friends. Sakura also gets along with Eunchae, alot more then me. Kazuha and I are still together, which is good.

But something strange has happened, Everytime I see Ms. Huh. My heart flutters, I feel like there butterflies in my stomach and I start blushing. I don’t know why.

“You like Ms. Huh?” Sakura says, sitting chris-crossed on her bed. I scoffed. “Don’t be ridiculous, I don’t like Ms. Huh” I say, also sitting chris-crossed. “Uh huh, you just said that you feel butterflies in your stomach, Your heart starts racing and you start blushing. That’s the exact definition of a crush” Sakura says, crossing her arms.

“Fine. I like Ms. Huh” I admit. Sakura knows me too well to keep anything from her. “Ha! knew it” Sakura says, a grin plastered on her face. “Shut up, now let’s change the topic” I say, desperately wanting to change the topic. “Okay, well there holding Cheerleading tryouts. You gonna sign up” Sakura says.

I tap my chin for a second, thinking about it. “You think?” I say. “Chae, your literally the popular girl in school, of course you should do it” She says, putting a hand on my shoulder.

“Besides, the captain of the cheer team has switched schools so the coach is holding cheer tryouts for a new captain and more people for the team. You are really flexible and you have excellent leadership. you’d be perfect for the captain role” She says. I think about it for a few more seconds, then I make my decision.

“I’ll do it” I say confidently. Then Sakura pulls up a Google form to sign up for tryouts. I enter all the information and hit submit. I close the laptop and sigh. “Now I just have to wait until tomorrow to see if I can go” I say. “It’s not so bad, Coach is probably up rejecting and accepting people for it anyways” Sakura says. I give her a look that says ‘you really think that helps right now’.

Sakura puts her hands up in surrender. then we both just laugh. I sigh and we both begin to scroll through our phones.

at tryouts

It’s the next day and I’m standing in the gymnasium, Waiting for my turn to tryout. I see Eunchae, Kazuha, and Sakura sitting on the bleachers, silently sending me all of there support. Finally, it’s my turn.

The music starts and I start my original routine. doing a lot of dance moves and flips. The coach watches me intensely, the other contestants also watch in shock and envy. the music finishes and I give my ending pose. the whole gym is clapping and cheering. a mix of pride and confidence washes over me.

“I never knew you had that in you Chaewon” The coach says. “Thank you” I say. “And the fact you did without being nervous is excellent” The coach praises me. “I’m Fearless” I reply simply. “You truly are” she says, she sounds very impressed with my routine.

I thank him again and sit down. watching the rest of the girls perform.

“Wow, we have a lot of talent out there. but as you know. there’s only 7 spots. the captain spot is the 7th spot” The coach says. she announces the 6 lucky girls to be on the team. “Now for the captain, she has excellent flexibility, confidence, and great leadership” she says. I cross my fingers and shut my eyes really tight.

“The new captain is…” she says, people are drumming on the bleachers. my eyes shut tighter.

“Kim Chaewon” she says, and my eyes snap open. I stand up, in shock and happiness. Everyone is clapping. Though Sakura, Kazuha and Eunchae are cheering loudly as well. I take the captain jacket from the coach and I put it on. People cheer louder. I thank her and the tryouts end.

I walk out the gym with Sakura, Kazuha, and Eunchae. Smiling widely. “I knew you could do it” Sakura cheers. “Thanks kkura” I say warmly. “You were amazing out there, I almost forgot you were my girlfriend” Kazuha says. I laugh. “You wouldn’t have” I say teasingly. Kazuha just laughs in response. “Yeah, I even recorded it” Eunchae adds. I look her. “You recorded it?” I ask in surprise.

“For memory sake” She says. “Oh, Okay” I reply. “Come on, let’s celebrate this” Sakura says. and we all head out the school.
