Igor
Caesar hasn’t spoken to me or even given me a glance yet. For me, every second is like an hour…I realize that I should have told him, but I was only attempting to lighten his burden.
He is really upset with me right now, so I was in my room thinking of methods to get him to talk to me until my phone rang.
“Good evening sir” One of the person from accounts department said.
“What is it?” My voice was firm.
Thankfully, they called before their time got up otherwise I had to torture a lot of people and right now I was really not in the mood to do so.
“Sir, we found out something… The time when there were discrepancies in our account system, our company hired few interns at the same time. So, according to us maybe one of them is behind our loss” The second he finished, my eyes darkened.
It wasn’t some rival Don or a sophisticated enemy that had orchestrated our business losses but a mere intern, who somehow managed to slip under the radar and wreak havoc.
“Good” My voice was sharp.
After eneding the call, I immediately called Akim, who picked up his phone within seconds.
“Boss?”
“I need you to investigate all the interns who worked in the account department. If you find anyone suspicious, tell me immediately” My voice was steady but laced with urgency as I don’t want to put more pressure on Caesar.
“Understood!” His voice was firm. I ended the call but my gaze was still fixed on the distant horizon.
Whoever this person was, he had unknowingly painted a target on his back, and I wasn’t about to let that go unanswered.
At night, I waited for Caesar to enter our room but there was no trace of him until someone knocked on our door. I opened to see one of our maids standing there with her head down.
“What?” I was already frustrated due to which my voice became louder at her and she flinched back in fear.
“Ca-Caesar boss told me to inform you that he will not s-sleep here tonight” She stuttered.
“Leave!” My voice was low but sharp and I slammed the door on her face in anger.
‘What the heck, Caesar!’ I muttered. He was really punishing me to no extent for this.
That night, I couldn’t sleep because he was not beside me. His arms were not around me or I was not snuggling into him…I was really missing him and needed to fix all this as soon as possible.
Next morning, Caesar was seated across from me when we all sat down to breakfast in the dining room and he never once glanced at me. Rose and Lion could feel the tension between us but didn’t say anything.
The silence of the room was broken when Akim entered hastily. The urgency in his strides caught everyone’s attention.
“Boss…” He looked between Caesar and me.
“One of our hotels caught fire this morning” Caesar’s eyes darkened instantly, knowing that this was not an accident.
“Go on” His voice was icy with a commanding tone. Akim took a breath before continuing.
“It’s bad, boss. A few people didn’t make it… but many more are injured. Emergency services are still on-site, but it’s already making headlines. They’re saying the fire spread fast, and some are claiming negligence”.
Rose gasped softly while Lion’s brow furrowed in concern. But Caesar’s reaction was much darker. I could see the anger bubbling in him.
“Even police got involved in it” He continued and that was the breaking point.
Caesar stood up abruptly, the chair scraping loudly against the floor as he shoved it back. His expression hardened into something terrifyingly unreadable. His fists clenched at his sides as the ruthless mafia king inside him took over.
Before he could burst out on everyone, I got up.
“I’ll handle this” He locked eyes with me for the first time that morning. For a second, he didn’t say anything and I expected his fury like others present in the room but he stepped closer to me.
“You better handle, this time” His voice was low but sharp.
Without saying anything else, he walked out of the room after creating a thick tension in the air.
“Come with me, Akim” I motioned for him to follow me to my office.
“The work I gave you” After sitting on my chair, I looked at him with my sharp eyes and he gave me a file which kept on my desk.
“This person is suspicious, boss. Each and every detail of his is in this file” I opened it to see a 24 year old boy’s photo.
“Do you think he burned our hotel?” After a few seconds, Akim asked.
“Of course” I said without any doubt while reading his information.
“Find him within two days. Also release a statement on our company’s behalf that we are sorry for their loss and are ready to compensate for this… I don’t want to hear any more word about this matter after today, got it?” My voice was firm and steady. Akim nodded and left my office.
I will do whatever it takes to relieve Caesar’s stress and to take that boy’s name off the planet.
He will now see what happens when someone mess with ‘The Mikhailov’s’.
