“Falling down is not failure, failure comes when you stay where you have fallen.”

-Socrates

Wait, I can’t let you come. Not after your sister. Ajax doesn’t deserve tha-

Shut up. I either come with you, you willing, or do anything to go and you not knowing until it is too late. You decide.

I don’t know how long I was waiting for Myrah. My gut clenched. It wasn’t because of me. The doors burst open and I heard a shaky breath.

M-

Ajax yelled at me. I will be fine. Just need a second, she responded, giving me a small smile. She was much better than me at that telepathy thing. She was also not lying.

“C’mon! Notos is waiting.” Right, the quest.

We found Notos near the woods. He was standing in front of a stream, just staring into space. Myrah yelled a greeting and his head snapped over to look at us. I narrowed my eyes and Myrah gave me a confused look. He blinked once before getting up and stepping towards us.

A bright light flashed between us. Myrah gasped and fell back. She stepped on my foot and I winced. “ΓΙΑΤΊ!” Notos exclaimed from behind the light as it began to take on a human shape.

“Myrah, my child,” hummed a sonorous voice. The light dimmed to reveal a beautiful woman with eerily pale skin and black hair that had such a shine, some parts appeared to have moonspots. Is this woman on something, Kip?

Shhh.

“I am your mother, but also the goddess of the moon-“

“Liar. Artemis is chaste,” I challenged, Myrah snorted.

“Selene. My daughters, the Menae, sometimes fill in for me, and when they do, Artemis protects them, thus the belief that the more famous goddess of the hunt is also of the moon, now may I continue?”

Yeah, pro’ly.

Hmm

“FOCUS!”

“Yes’m”

“As I was saying, Myrah, due to me being your biological mother, you have the power of calling upon the assistance of the tide and light. You-“

Wait, Mr. Fallow is your biological father, correct?

As far as I know.

Damn. Since when has he have game?

I happen to remember him flirting with your mother when they first m-

Your divine mother is speaking.

Oh my god.

Gods, I corrected.

Shuddup.

“For this quest you have accepted, you must have weapons. I know Cody has practiced sword fighting and archery-“

“What, when?”

“So,” Selene dictated, growing agitated.”I have a Kipos for you, my daughter, and a Xiphos for your friend, as well. Come here.” And so she did. Cautiously.

Myrah

Excitement lingered in my throat as I stepped along the soft river bank to the goddess. There was something grave underlying in her dark, glossy eyes. She lifted her hands and two swords appeared, in their sheathes. One was basic brown leather. The other curved and had a handle-like hilt. The sheathe was a deep purple with three white diamonds, the curved guard followed in suit, the handle having black leather bond around it. It had a small chain with what looked like a hematite charm on it.

I pulled them to me, cradling them like a dove. Selene craned her neck and spoke in a hushed tone, “this will be a very perilous journey. But a journey you must take. Be wise and strategic. Don’t trust anyone.”

I dipped my head in respect, trying to calm my shaking hands at the intensity in her distant, night-black gaze. She seemed to be impluring into me, attempting to imprint distrust into my very soul. The rough leather grazed my fingers as I took the blades.

“Also, my dear, you must know the language of which you will be living in. I suppose you could wait and learn as you go… but there is a spell. A spell gifted to me from Hermes, one of the twelve great olympians.” I really wished she wouldn’t whisper like she was. “There is one issue, though… I only have one favor from him. It either goes to you or your friend.”

“Co-“

“Careful, child. He has more secrets than he is letting on.”

“What do you mean?”

“It will start to take effect soon.”

Selene lifted her head to take in the forest. She noticeably never even considered Notos. I glanced at her eyes; fear. I drew a sharp breath.

“Be safe, Young Ones.” And, with that, she was gone.
