His laugh carried through the corridor of the castle as we exited onto the bridge. “Give it!”
“Nope!” He laughed again, playing keep-away with Zephyr’s scrolls.
“Come on,” she whined. His beautiful blue eyes sparkled.
“In your dreams,” he scoffed.
Zephyr couldn’t help but grin, despite the feeling of despair that rose in her stomach. “Gods, why are you so annoying,” she laughed, leaping once more for the pages.
He did a full turn and she almost fell. But they were still laughing. The warm spring breeze ruffled his dusty brown hair. The noon sunlight, Zephyr knew, was making her blonde hair dance of different hues. He smiled. The wind picked up. She didn’t know what direction or why her stomach dropped. Until she did.
She opened her eyes to see her brother. A dream, she thought pitifully. She knew she wouldn’t have a dream like that again in a long time, emphasis on “long time.”
Sitting up, she pressed her back to the cold stone walls and stared at the plain stone ceiling. The stars. The sky. The sun.
She missed it.
