Selenes POV

“You fucked up.” Zarina says as she changes out of her scrubs and into sweats.

“You don’t think I know that? I panicked ok? And by the time it registered what I said, she was already out the door.” I say laying starfish on her bed.

“Why did you tell her you that you’re engaged?”

“Because I am Rina, atleast still according to my homophobic, racist parents and his.”

“I still don’t understand how they still think you guys are together after two years of not showing up to a single event together.” She says scoffing.

I shrug. “You know them, they want their daughter to be with a man who is successful, rich and comes from a good family.”

“Don’t forget white.” She adds.

“Oh that’s the best part, right!” I say fake enthusiastic and rolling my eyes.

“And Jordyn is literally none of those, well except successful. But not the way they will want.”

“Rina what do I do?” I start to tear up and she sits on the bed to hold me.

“Well you need to talk to her. She just thinks you guys are engaged after you getting in a relationship with her Selene. You and I know that’s not true.”

I shake my head. “You didn’t see how she looked at me Ri. She didn’t say a word. She just left and then dropped me off at her place to get my car.”

“Atleast she didn’t leave you stranded, right?”

“She’s not going to talk to me.”

“Just give her some time but let her know you need to atleast explain. I’m gonna get wine. I say take the day off. It’s Friday anyway.” She says and I nod.

She gets up to walk out. “Wait.” I say stopping her. “Get the whiskey instead.”

She gives a sympathetic look. “It’s that kinda night?” And I just nod. She nods and walks out.

I sigh and open my phone to text her.

Me: baby please allow me to explain. I panicked and I didn’t tell you everything
Baby❤️: read just now

I sigh at the her ignoring me. I get up and strip into my robe and silk pajamas I only wear around the house to feel cute. And right now I feel like shit. I put my hair in a messy bun and take out my contacts and put on my glasses.

I walk out and see Zarina on the couch with a glass ready for me. “Did you text her?” I nod solemnly. “And?” I look at her tears forming again and shake my head. “Aww. Drink.” She says and puts the glass to my mouth and I gulp the burning alcohol.

“Oh my god!” I cough out and she laughs chugging hers down. “You are insane!”

“And I love you and I hate when you’re sad. Drinking makes you not so sad.” She says pouring me another glass. I’m getting fucked up tonight.

12 AM

“Don’t call her!” Zarina yells as she chases me around the apartment while I have my phone in my hand.

“Why noooot?” I whine.

“Because you’re drunk Selene! She’s not going to want to talk to you especially if you’re drunk.” She says and jumps over the couch to jump on me and taking my phone.

“Rina please? I just want to talk to her.” She sighs and hands me my phone.

“You better hope she loves you.” She says and goes back in the couch.

I smile and go to her contact and call her. Ring! Ring! Ring! Ring! Ring! Hey it’s Jordyn, I can’t come to the phone right now but you know what to do. Beep. “Hey baby, I’m sorry. Please let me explain. Hiccup. Fuck im drunk. Bye baby.” I end the call and sigh that I couldn’t talk to her.

“What she say?” Zarina asked with ear eyes glossy. She’s so fucked up I don’t even want to know what I look like.

“She didn’t answer.” I pout. “She’s never going to talk to me again.” Knock knock. We look at the door confused and then back at each other. It’s 12 in the morning no one should be here. We shrug but the door knocks again.

“Oh my god shut the fuck up!” Rina yells stumbling to the door. “We’re having a fucking crisis and you’re banging on the door like the fucking police you motherf-.” She opens the door and pauses her sentence.

“Tell whoever it is to go the fuck away!” I yell picking up the bottle to drink from it when it’s snatched away from me. “Hey what the f-!” My eyes go as wide as they can at the sight of a pissed off and Jordyn. “Baby!” I yell and go to hug her but she grabs my arms to stop me and I pout. “Ugh you’re still angry at me.”

“No shit Selene! But why are you calling me at 12 in the morning drunk? You do realize you have work right?” She yells sternly and I swear if she wasn’t so pissed off I’d ask her to fuck me right here.

I shrug. “I’m taking a sick day. See,” I fake couch, “I’m sick.” I roll my eyes and sit on the couch.

“And you?” I guess she’s talking to Zarina. “Aren’t you a doctor?”

“Surgeon.” Zarina corrects.

“Why are you allowing her to drink like this?” She asks.

“Because she’s a grown ass woman who wants to drink Jordyn. But she wouldn’t be drinking, what did you say? On a school night, if you didn’t fucking ignore her like an asshole when she’s trying to explain the situation to you!” Zarina yells and I stand up from the couch and get between them when I see Jordyns jaw clench.

“Zarina that’s uncalled for.” I say and she rolls her eyes.

“No what’s uncalled for is you having to get drunk like this because she’s ignoring you and not letting you explain when she clearly fucking still cares about you otherwise she wouldn’t be here!” She puts her attention back on Jordyn. “Well, now that you’re here put your fucking pride to the side and listen. I’ll be in my room.” She says taking the bottle from Jordyn’s hand and walking away.

I sigh. “Jordyn.”

She shakes her head. “There’s nothing to explain Selene. What? You feel guilty for making me feel like I had you all to myself but in reality I’m sharing you with an asshole who cheats on you. Thanks but I don’t need to hear it.” She goes to leave but I grab her by the sleeve of her hoodie.

“Jordyn fucking listen to me!” I yell with tears flowing out of my eyes and I see her eyes soften. “Stop trying to ignore me when you clearly care about me! Just let me explain please.” I beg holding her hand.

She contemplates and then nods and I lead her to the couch. We sit down and I take a breath. “Baby why would you drink like this? I thought you said you wouldn’t.” She says looking at the empty glasses on the coffee table.

I shrug and look down playing with my fingers. “I missed you Jordyn and I felt lost without you.” I say sounding like a child who’s getting scolded by their parent.

She lifts my head to meet my eyes. “Baby explain.”

“Ok but you have to listen don’t just get upset.”

She shakes her head. “I won’t.”

“Ok, yes. Michael and I are engaged. But only in the eyes of our parents. When I was with him while I was teaching he was a great guy. I didn’t fake that. So I introduced him to my parents and they approved.” I shrugged at the end.

“Approved?” She asked at my choice of words.

I nod. “Yes approved. He comes from a successful line of family. He’s a lawyer and his family are owners of some company overseas.”

“So he’s rich.” She asks bored.

I nod again. “And a white man.” I say lowly.

Her face hardens. “Your parents are homophobic and racist?” She asks and I nod again. She scoffs and stands up.

“Baby?” I call her.

“So why do they think you’re still engaged to him? I thought you guys broke up 2 years ago?” She asks with a confused look.

“My parents would disown me if they knew that I was no longer with Michael especially if it’s because I’m now with you.” I say ashamed.

She scoffs and gives a fake smile. “What? A black Italian, gay, woman who is just a gym coach.” She spits out.

“Jordyn, baby please understand this is hard. They’re my family.” I beg.

“Who don’t even accept you for who you are!” I drop my head back down. “No fucking way. They don’t know do they?” I shake my head. “Ha! You know what? I’m gonna just let this be.” She says and I look at her confused.

“What do you mean?” I ask with a shaky voice.

“I will not be a secret Selene! Not only are you playing pretend with that asshole, you are asking me to be a secret to people who are important to you and I’m sorry I can’t do that. I won’t share you.” She says and goes to leave again.

“Jordyn please?! Just give me some time to figure out how to talk to them.” I beg hugging her from the back.

“I’ll give you all the time you need. Just not as your girlfriend.” She says and my heart shatters as she opens the door to leave but rage fills that space when I see Michael standing at the door looking between us. Jordyn laughs sadistically and looks at me. “You call him too?” She ask and I shake my head but I can’t get words out when she storms out pushing Michale out the way.

I chase after her as she runs down the stairs. “Baby please. I didn’t call him! Please believe me! Jordyn!” She stop and looks at me from the bottom stairs. “Jordyn.”

Her jaw clenched but I see her eyes gloss over. “I can’t do ‘that’.” She says points gesturing towards the apartment. “Bye Selene.” She walks out and the tears flow again.

I wipe them away and make my way upstairs. He will not see me cry. I get up to the apartment but I don’t see him outside. I open the door and see him standing by the couch while Zarina is staring daggers at him and then at me from her bedroom door. “Why the fuck is he here? Where’d Jordyn go?” She ask.

“She left. She broke up with me.” I say feeling the tears come and Zarina can see and tries to come to hug me but I stop her. “You.” I point to Michael. “Why are you here? It’s fucking 1 in the morning.”

“I couldn’t sleep Selene. I miss you and I want to make things right. I mean we’re engaged we’re supposed to get married.” He says and I swear I’m going to puke and not because of the alcohol and emotions.

“Our engagement ended the day you cheated on me and if that wasn’t enough it was the day I said we were through and gave you back your fucking ring.”

“That’s not what our parents think. And you and I both know their approval is everything.”

“I’ll talk to my parents. At the end of the day I’m an adult and I make my living on my own.”

He scoffs and rolls his eyes. “Selene come on. Now that you’re single again because that d,”

“Be very mindful on what comes out of your mouth next Michale Klein.”

“Her. You’re single Selene and so am I. We work together this is meant to be.” He says walking up to me and grabbing my hands. “Come on babe. You know no one could love you like I do.”

I push him away. “Get the fuck out! Next time it’ll be the police.” I say opening the door.

He rolls his eyes and walks but stops in front of me. He puts a strand of hair behind my ear. “Christmas, don’t forget.” He says and then walks out.

I turn after slamming the door. “Can I get that hug now?” I ask as the tears fall and Zarina immediately ingulfs me in a warm hug.

“Come on let’s go to bed.” She says and we go to her room to sleep she has a California king and it’s the comfiest bed ever, besides Jordyn’s. Which I will probably never sleep in again.

“She said she couldn’t do it Ri.” I sob

“I know babe. Let’s try to fix it tomorrow. Now let’s sleep it off.” She says and I nod and we lay down.

I close my eyes but all I see is the face of Jordyn when she left. Fuck!
