Selenes POV
That same night
I make it home with a smile still on my face after Jordyn gave me her number. I’ll admit I was a little jealous she was going to a club tonight looking that good but I had no right to because she was in a relationship and it wasnt with me.
I enter the apartment and I’m met with silence because Zarina is still at the hospital because of a last minute surgery. I find myself drinking her wine we only drink when we are bored. And that I am. 20 minutes later I’m on my 4th glass and I’ve emptied the bottle. Shit! I pull out my phone and graze over a contact I know I shouldn’t call because it’ll just lead to regret but fuck it. I’m drunk. Consequences only exist when you’re sober.
I push the call button and it rings. Ugh answer! “Hello?” Jordyn answers. I cringe at hearing the background music. I forgot she’s at the club.
“Oh uh hi.” I slurr.
“Selene?” She questions. I love how she says my name. “Hold on I’m going outside?” She says and I hear her say ‘I’ll see you later’ to someone.
“You don’t have to leave her to talk to me.” I say pouting.
“Hey Selene. What made you call soon?” She said I guess she didn’t hear me.
“I was just sitting here…thinking of you. And I was hoping you could come here.” I say definitely confidently.
“Selene are you drunk?” She asks and I can tell she’s frowning.
I sigh. “Yes but that doesn’t mean I’m not aware of what I’m saying or doing.”
I hear her sigh. “Selene, you’re saying that now because you are drunk. You wouldn’t want me there if you were sober.” She says.
I frown at her thinking I don’t want hers is she blind or deaf or just fucking oblivious. “Look forget it. Im sorry I even called. Bye Jordyn.” I say and immediately hang up not giving her the chance.
I walk into the kitchen to find more alcohol. The sound of the door stops me from pouring a shot of crown. The knocker grows impatient and knocks furiously. “Oh my fucking god! Can you stop!” I yell but my eyes go wide when I see who the knocker is. “Jordyn,” I breathe out still very much drink. I have to be imagining her.
“Yeah. You hung up on me. That was rude.” She says letting herself in and going to the kitchen. I walk behind her confused. She sniffs the cup I just poured crown in and scrunches up her nose. “So you drink a whole bottle of wine and then you switch to dark liquor. Do you hate yourself?” She says closing the bottle and putting it up.
“Um, no. Why are you here? How-how are you here?” I ask realizing it’s not my imagination she’s here.
She scoffs. “You sent me your location after hanging up. I had a feeling you didnt mean to but I still came just incase you needed me. And clearly I was right.” She said and takes me to the bathroom of my room. “Get in.” She points to the shower. I nod and immediately regret trusting her so blindly when cold water floods me cooling me and eliminating my drunkenness.
“Fuck, Jordyn!” I say.
“You need to sober up so we can talk.” She says and then guides me out when I’m more coherent. She wraps a towel around me and sits me on the toilet seat. “Now why were you drinking like that?”
I shrugged. “I was bored. My best friend isn’t here and we drink when we’re bored. I never get this drunk because we share the bottle so I take only half most of the time.
She shakes her head. “Well I’m glad you called. You could’ve made yourself sick. Come on let’s get you to bed. Can you strip yourself?” She asks and I nod. “Ok where’s your advil?”
“In the medicine cabinet in Zarina room. You can get it she doesn’t mind.” I say. She nods and goes to the other room while I strip out of my wet clothes and wrap in my robe getting in my bed because now I’m sleepy.
She walks in with a water bottle and two Advils on a napkin. “Take these in the morning. And then eat something.” She says and begins to walk out the room.
I sit up . “Jordyn wait.” She turns. “Can you stay please? Just incase I get sick like you said.” I ask half telling the truth. I really just want her to stay.
She nods and then takes off her top and pants. “You don’t mind right? I hate sleeping with clothes on.” She says and I shake my head at minding. She smiles and slides in next to me. I turn my back to her and grab her arm to wrap around me. “Someone’s a clingy drunk.” She teases but it’s true I am. I’m clingy either way but it increases when I’m drunk.
“Good night Jordyn,” I say closing my eyes feeling myself already drifting.
“Good night beautiful.” I hear her say and I blush and sleep takes over.
Saturday
My head is pounding is the only thing I think about when I open my eyes. I’m never drinking again. I turn to my right and see advil and water already ready to take. Zarina must’ve come home. She never has hangovers somehow so she always makes sure I’m good. I take the pill and wash it down with water and get out of bed to brush my teeth and wash my face.
I brush my hair to get the bed hair out and put it up into a bun. I step out looking for my glasses when I step on clothes. A big tee and cargo pants. Why do I have men clothes in my room? Panic starts to fill my head as I try to recall last night. It couldn’t t have been Michael, this person has taste in fashion. I look over and see the other side of the bed is messy and a phone on the nightstand. I walk towards to pick it up when the door opened revealing. “Jordyn?”
She gives me a shy smile. “Uh yes. I was coming to wake you, I made breakfast.” She said standing in nothing but her briefs and sports bra. Her hair is messy like she just woke up. I just stare at her. “Ok. Um you clearly don’t remember last night and I don’t want to stress you out, so I’m going to head out.” She grabs her clothes from my bed and puts them on. “You have my number, clearly, so call or text me if you need anything.” She says and grabs her phone from my hand. “See you Monday Selene.” She kisses my cheek and then walks out. The front door closing is the only thing breaking my trance. Five times.
I walk out of my room and into the kitchen to see eggs, bacon, and toast. I didn’t even know we had these groceries. I sit at the table and eat the amazing breakfast she cooked for me and I sit and ponder what the hell happened last night.
“Ooh it smells amazing in here.” Zarina says walking into the kitchen in her scrubs. She eyed the freshly made food and then at me. “Since when the hell do you cook?” She jokes making herself a plate that I’m sure was probably for Jordyn if she stayed.
“I didn’t.” I say plainly.
“Well if you didn’t who did?” She asks.
I clear my throat. “Jordyn.” I mumble so she didn’t really hear me.
“Who?” Her eyebrow furrowed as she bites her bacon.
“Jordyn.” I say more clearly.
Her eyes go wide and she stops chewing. “Wait, Jordyn? As in your ex nerd student turned sexy gym coach?” She emphasizes.
I roll my eyes. “Yes that Jordyn. I called her while I was drunk last night and she showed up here.” I say with my fingers on my nose.
“And then she cooked you breakfast. You sure you didn’t fuck?” She asks chuckling.
I hit her arm. “What?! No! I’d remember that. I remember her drenching me in cold ass water to sober me up. So I know she didn’t take advantage of me.”
“Aww. Have you finally found someone who actually respects you as a woman unlike Michelle.” She says sarcastically.
I roll my eyes. “His name is Michael and you know this.”
“You say that like I care and neither should you.” She says eating her eggs and sipping on coffee.
“But yes she’s great Rina. She’s sweet, funny and clearly caring. She was out at the club and left just because I called her drunk.” I say finding myself smiling.
“I’m glad. I can’t wait to meet her.” She says and then takes our empty plates to the sink to clean. “Well I’m going to sleep and pray I don’t get called in until tomorrow.” She says kissing my forehead and going to her room.
I go to my room and open my phone and my messages are already on her and is conversation.
Me: Location Sent
Jordyn ☺ï¸: im omw Selene
Jordyn ☺ï¸: im at your door
I smile at the text and I text her back.
Me: Thank you for the medicine and breakfast and staying with me. I’m feeling better already.😊
I put my phone down and get in the shower. I get out and hear my phone ringing so I wrap myself in my robe while drying my hair with a towel and see that Jordyn is calling. “Jesus!” I panick. Why is she calling? Should I not have sent that text. I answer the phone. “Hello?” I answer with fake composure.
I hear her chuckle. “Uh hi Selene. I’m glad you’re feeling better and that you enjoyed the breakfast.” I can hear the smile in her voice and the image is perfect in my mind.
“Uh yeah I did. What made you call?” I ask not really understanding why she called instead of just replying to the text and having me nervous.
“Honestly? I just wanted to hear your voice.” My face hurts from smiling so hard. “It’s the first weekend since you started back working at the school so it’s different not seeing you.” She says and I’m swooning. Wait no! She’s in a relationship.
“Oh well that’s sweet Jordyn. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss you.” My eyes go wide. “I mean your voice. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss your voice.” I try to correct but I know it’s too late when I hear her smooth laugh.
“You’re so cute when you get flustered.” My face has to be red as a tomato right now. “Look, I was wondering if maybe you’d like to go out to dinner with me tonight? If you’re sober enough of course.” She says jokingly at the end.
I laugh at it but then realize she just asked me out on a date. “Oh uh would that be a good idea?” I ask.
“Coworkers go out with each other all the time. I don’t see why it would,” I cut her off.
“No. I mean you have a girlfriend Jordyn. How would she feel about you going to dinner with another woman?” Im not a homewrecker.
She sighs. “Morgan and I are not together. We broke up months ago because she cheated on me. We’ve been best friends since middle school and first loves so that’s why we were so close the other day. But I cut it off because it’s unhealthy. That’s why I’ve been flirting with you. I hope it hasn’t made you uncomfortable since you were unaware of the situation.” She says.
“Well then yes. I’d love to go out to dinner tonight.” I say smiling.
I hear another sigh but it sounds more of a relief. “Good. I’ll pick you up at 6. Wear something nice, I’m sure you’d look perfect in sweats though.” She says and again I can hear her smile.
“Ok can’t wait. Bye Jordyn.” I say trying to be smooth.
“See you later Selene.” She says and we hang up.
“Holy shit!” I whisper yell. “I’m going on a date.” Realization hits and I run to Zarinas room. “Zarina!”
