Selenes POV
January 4
“Please, stop! Get off me!” I yell at the top of my lungs while he’s on top of me. I feel someone grab me and I swing but my hand gets caught and my eyes clear and I see a worried and tired Jordyn hovering over me. “Baby did I hurt you?” I ask breathless and she shakes her head. I sigh and close my eyes with tears burning like acid.
“Baby it’s ok. I’m right here.” She holds me like she does every night and I hate how he’s ruining my life and our relationship without even being around anymore. My sobs soak her shirt and she rocks me back and forth. “I’m right here. He can’t get to you anymore.” She reassures and I take a shaky breath.
I nod and wipe my eyes. “What time is it?” She shows me her phone. I smile at the photo she took of me sleep and her smiling brightly. The time says 8:30, so I get up and get ready for my therapy session. I promised Jordyn I would because I hate waking up to her with marks made by my fear of Michael. I get in the shower and let the water wash over me as I take small breaths to release from the nightmare. I feel her presence and she slowly wraps her arms around me and I lean into her chest.
“Are you going to be ok?” She asks. I nod and she kisses my shoulder. “Can I help you wash?” I smile softly and nod again. She starts washing my back slowly and softly and I just feel so loved by her. She really does make me so happy. I don’t know what I’d do without her. “You’re so beautiful, amore mio.” I hum.
“Thank you baby.” I turn around and look her in her eyes. “You are too.” She smiles and kisses me gently. It doesn’t deepen and I’m not disappointed. I love just being present with her in my presence, sharing the same breath.
We finish showering and we get dressed for the day. School starts tomorrow so she’s going there today for a staff meeting. They’re aware I won’t be there, not why but still. “Alright baby. I’m leaving, please let me know if you need anything after your appointment.” I nod and kiss her. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too. Be safe please.” I whisper against her lips and she nods and kisses me once again and then leaves out. I finish getting dressed in high waisted jeans, a cropped white hoodie and white vans. I head out to my car and the feeling I’m being watched makes me turn quickly but no one is there. I’ve been feeling like this since we got back from my parents and I hate it but I just see it as me still paranoid from that night which is why I’m going to therapy. See, problem solved. I get in my car and head to the office.
“Good morning, welcome to Casters. Do you have an appointment with one of our doctors?” The receptionist asks.
I nod. “Yes, for a Selene Kaci.” I tell her and she looks it up.
“Ah yes, you’ll be with Dr. Martinet. She’s right around the corner. She should be ready for you.” I thank her and go to the open door with the nameplate, Dr. Jade Martinet.
She looks up when I walk in and smiles. She’s a fair skinned woman who has red hair and piercing blue eyes. “Good morning Selene. How are we doing?” She asks and I shake her hand and her scent is familiar.
“Uh I’m good I guess. Do I know you?” I ask not being able to shake the familiar feeling away.
She smiles and offers me to sit. “You don’t know me personally but I’m a friend of Jordyn and Jason.” Ah the girls who perfume I smelt on Jordyn. “Trust me I didn’t plan us to meet in such an uncircumstantial manner. When you pick a certain therapist for certain, matters, they assign that specific person for you.” She says and I understand what she means. “No need to be sad for me, Selene. I’m here for you.” I nod.
“Will this not be weird? I mean you’re my girlfriend’s friend, is this even allowed?” I ask curiously.
“Yes it is because we are not technically friends besides, therapy is just you talking to someone who just so happens to have a degree. It doesn’t matter.” I nod in understanding. “I’m aware of your studies Selene. So I’m not going to try to play around on your psyche. Just tell me what’s going on.” I sigh and see her looking at me with no notepad. We’re just two people talking.
“So it happened on Christmas Eve-
2 Hours Later
The office is filled with sniffles and laughing. She looks at the time when someone knocks on the door. “Oh god. I have another client.” I nod. We get off the floor from laying down and we stand up. She hugs me and I hold her just as tight. “I hate this has happened to you but I’m proud that you reached out when you saw how it was affecting you and not wait until you completely broke. I don’t know if this talk helped fully but I know this is a step to healing. And it’s all up to you. I’m proud of you and your strength.”
“Thank you. And I’m proud of you as well. You are amazing!” She curtsies and I laugh. “Ok bye.” We say bye and I leave the office feeling refreshed and free already. We talked about what happened that night and then she gave me advice and then I asked about hers and how she handled it. Her story is terrible but her growth from it is honestly inspiring. We then started talking about Jason and Jordyn and how goofy they can be and our college experiences. I thought Zarina was wild, jeez. I get in my car and head home. I see Jordyn’s car when I pull up and smile brightly. “Baby, I’m home!” I call out but I don’t hear her. “Babe?” I look around but don’t see her. I pull out my phone and call her. Bzz bzzz! I frown and walk to the kitchen and see her phone and car keys on the counter.
The door opens and I take a breath but panic starts back up when it’s Zarina. “You look like you’re going to be sick. Are you ok?” She asks and my heart starts racing. “Selene what’s going on?”
I have a bad feeling. That feeling is rising again. “Something’s wrong.”
She looks at me weirdly and then I pull out my phone again. “Hey Selene.”
“Uh hey Mrs. Cantraz. I was wondering if Jordyn is there still at the school.” I say and Zarina furrows her brows.
“Oh no sweetie. We were dismissed 30 minutes ago. She was there and then left with the rest of us.”
I sigh. “Oh ok. Thank you. Have a nice day.” I hang up and my hands run through my hair. “I don’t know where she is Rina.”
She looks confused. “Have you tried Jason?” I shake my head and she takes my phone and calls him. “Hey Jason, it’s Zarina, Selenes friend. Um Selene is really worried right now and I would love to know if Jordyn has contacted you recently or is there right now?” She listens to his response and then looks at me and tears start to fall. “Ok thanks. Um we might need you here. Yeah now. Ok.” She hangs up.
“Wh-what did he say?” I sob out.
“She told him, she felt like someone was following her after leaving the school and then when she got home, she went ghost. He hasn’t heard from her since Selene.”
“Oh my god! Give me my phone!” She hands it to me and I dial my dad.
“Hey sweetie. Is everything ok?”
I shake my head. “Uh no dad.” I sniffle. “Um is Michael out of jail?” I ask and Zarinas face pales and she immediately goes to her room, for what, I don’t know.
I hear him tell mom to call the precinct. “Damn it! Sorry sweetie, uh looks like he got out a couple days after Christmas. I had no idea!” He says through his teeth and everything goes quiet. “Sweetie?”
“Selene?” Zarinas voice comes close and her hand touches my shoulder and I shake my head and she holds me. She takes my phone. “Uh hi Mr. Kaci, it’s Zarina. Um Jordyn is missing and we think Michael has her.”
He has her. Fuck! Fuck!
