Jayden’s POV
I arrive at my house before Axel, and look at the time. It’s 5:34, so I call my mom.
“Hey honey”
“Hey mom, is everything set up?”
“I would’ve loved to have all these books in my room, but my room wasn’t big enough. So sadly, they had to be put here” I hear Axe sigh, and an idea pops into my head.
I hand Axe the box, “I’ll be right back” I leave the room, and head downstairs. I take out my phone and call my mom.
“Hey honey, everything okay?”
I look upstairs to make sure Axe isn’t listening, “Yeah mom, everything’s fine. Could you do me a favour?”
“Yeah of course, what’s up?”
I lower my voice to a whisper, “Can you buy 3 bookshelves big enough to fit.. let’s say 150 books?” I say. I counted the amount of book on one shelf, and multiplied that by the amount of shelves he has to get an approximate number of the amount of book Axe has.
“3 bookshelves? Where is that going to go? We don’t have enough space in our study”
“Axel’s new room, it’ll fit right?” I ask and my mom hums.
“Yeah, definitely. His room will be the same size as yours”
“Oh yeah, then it’ll definitely fit” I say, thinking about the size of my room. Not to brag or anything, but I have a decent sized room. It’ll definitely fit 3 bookshelves, heck it could even fit 6 and he’d have tons more space left.
“I just wanted Axe’s new room to have bookshelves he can fill his books with. He wanted to put his books in his room in this house, but it wasn’t big enough. Now that he has a big room, I want him to have everything he’s ever wanted in a room. His new room has a TV, right?” I say and my mom chuckles.
“Yes, it does. You really care about him, don’t you?” my mom says and I sigh.
“You have no idea. I want to give him the best life possible after all he’s been through”
She giggles, “Alright, I’ll get the bookshelves installed in his room. Just don’t bring him to the house until after 5:30. It’ll take some time to set up”
I smile, “Thanks mom, you’re the best”
“Anything for you and Axel, honey. He deserves the best after everything”
I frown, “Yeah, he deserves more than this universe could give”
My mom giggles, “Alright, see you soon honey”
“Everything’s all set. Are you guys here?” my mom says, and I see Axe pulling up on the driveway.
“Yeah, could you call some people out to help us move his stuff?” I ask, and I hear my mom tell Carl, our head butler, to get some people to help me out.
I thank my mom and hang up, as Axe gets out of his car and walks up to me. I smile at him and give him a kiss on the cheek.
He smiles, “Shall we start unloading?” he says and I shake my head as our butlers come out of the house and starts unloading the car.
“No need, they’ll help us” I say and take Axe’s hand, leading him inside. We pass by Carl, and I give him a grateful smile. He nods, and gives me a small smile. Carl has been working for us since I was in diapers. He took care of me almost as much as my mom did and I think of him as family.
“Ready to see your new room?” I ask Axe as we walk upstairs.
“Yeah, it’s not too extravagant right?” Axe asks and I chuckle.
“If by extravagant, you mean big, then your room’s the same size as mine” I say and Axe’s eyes go wide.
“But your room is like three times the size of my living room!” Axel exclaims.
I laugh, as we near Axe’s new room.
“Ready?” I ask and he nods, as I open the door.
Axel’s POV
“Ready?” he asks and I nod. He opens the door and my eyes go wide.
The room is as big as Jay’s, except mine had less furniture. The bed and TV were placed exactly like Jay’s, except I didn’t have any bean bags or playstation controllers. There was a desk in the corner of the room, Jay’s room doesn’t have a desk. I always wondered where he did his homework, he said he just sits on his bed to do it.
The biggest difference between our rooms was that his walls had pictures and posters on them. Instead of pictures, there were 3 bookshelves aligned against the wall that could hold all of my books and more.
I see May walk out of the bathroom of my room, and she smiles at me. “Hey Axel, how are you honey?”
“I’m doing good Mrs. W-” she gives me a playful glare, “May, thank you”
She smiles, “Do you like your new room? Jay called me earlier today to have these bookshelves installed” she says, tapping the bookshelves and I turn to look at Jay, who had a huge grin plastered on his face.
I jump up and hug him, my legs wrapping around his waist and his hands ending up on my butt. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” I say and peck on the lips in between each thank you.
Jay laughs, and puts me down. “I’m glad you like it”
“I love it, thank you” I say and smile brightly at him.
I turn and look at May, who’s already looking at us. “Thank you so much May, for letting me stay here and for doing this for me”
She shakes her head, “No need to thank me honey, I’m happy to help. You deserve so much more” she says in a sad voice.
“It’s okay, your son here has been making me forget about everything. He makes me really happy” I say and May smiles.
“Good, glad to know I raised him well” she says and I laugh.
The butlers and maids come in with all my stuff, and I continuously thank them all until Jay stops me.
“I think they get it” he laughs and I look away embarrassed, as the butlers and maids chuckle.
As they leave, May tells me to get settled in as she prepares dinner. I smile gratefully at her as she leaves the room. I go and lay down on my bed, feeling the soft mattress underneath me.
“Here” Jay says as he hands me the teddy bear he got for me earlier.
I smile, and take it from him, hugging it tightly. I set it down on my bed and go to hug him. He hugs me back and we stay like that for a while, until he pulls away.
He smiles, “You should start unpacking, I’ll help” he says and I start unloading my books and putting them on the shelves.
After I put away all the books, I look up at the shelves and sigh in content. I never thought I’d be able to have my own library in my room, but Jay made it happen. He makes everything I think is impossible, possible. I never thought I’d ever be this happy, but Jay made it happen. I never thought I’d ever feel loved, but Jay made it happen.
I turn to look at him and I smile softly. He fell asleep on my bed. I let him sleep as I start unpacking my clothes and hanging them up in the closet. I feel a sense of accomplishment as I look around the now organized room. I think I’m going to buy some beanbags, or I’ll just steal one of Jay’s.
“Boys! Dinner’s almost ready!” I hear May yell and I go to wake up Jay.
“Psst, Jay. Let’s go downstairs” I say and shake him. Jay’s eyes slowly open as he sits up, looking at his surroundings. He sees me and grabs my arm, pulling me on his lap. He lifts me up a bit and sets my legs to be on either side of him, so I’m straddling him. His arm snakes around my waist and he smiles at me.
“Hey baby” he says as he pecks my nose and I giggle.
“Hi, your mom called us down for dinner” I say and he groans, resting his head on my shoulder.
“I’m comfy” he says and I laugh.
“How comfy can you be with someone on your lap” I say and he looks up at me, smirking.
“You have no idea” he says while wiggling his brows, and I look at him confused.
“Boys, dinner” we hear May say behind the door.
Jay sighs, “We’ll be down in a sec”
We hear May’s footsteps disappear and I get up from Jay’s lap, pulling him up with me. He takes my hand and we walk out of the room and downstairs to the kitchen.
Dan’s already sitting at the table and looks up when he hears us approaching.
“Hey Mr- Dan, it’s nice to see you again” I say with a smile, in which he returns.
“Hey Axel, I heard about your situation from May. She was so excited about you living here. Make yourself at home since you’ll be here a while” he says with a chuckle, gesturing to the seats in front of him.
“I’m going to go see if May needs any help” I say and let go of Jay’s hand, heading to the kitchen.
I walk in and smell something burning, and I see May running to the oven taking out a batch of burnt drumsticks.
She sighs, and is about to throw them away when I stop her.
“Hey May, could I see that for a sec?” I say and she looks at me confused.
She puts them down on the counter and watches me as I observe them. I could probably save this.
“Do you have any vinegar?” I ask and poor May looks even more confused. She nods and goes to get the vinegar from a cabinet, handing it to me. I find a spoon from the drawers and pour some vinegar on the spoon, pouring it on the chicken. I do that once more and put the spoon down, closing the vinegar bottle.
“That should do it” I say and look over and smile at May. She hesitantly picks up a drumstick and trying it, her eyes going wide.
“But- how did you- they- burnt- WHAT” she exclaims and I giggle.
“Pouring around two tablespoons of vinegar on the drumsticks makes them edible again. Is it good?” I ask, nervous since I just added something to her food without permission.
She puts the drumstick down and wipes her fingers on a cloth. She grabs me and pulls me in a hug, “You, young man, are amazing. This saves me so much food! I burn drumsticks constantly since I can’t quite grasp the right temperature and have to throw them away. But now I know what to do, thanks to you! Where’d you learn that?” she asks, pulling away and looking at me.
I shrug, “I’m a huge fan of culinary and baking, and I’ve had to cook all my meals since I was 4. I learned a trick or two from that” I say and she gives me a surprised look.
“You need to make us a meal next time” she says and gives me a motherly pat on the cheek.
I smile, “It’d be my pleasure” I say, and help May bring the dishes out and set them on table. We sit down as Jason enters the room, sitting down beside May.
We dig in, and I almost moan at how good the food is. May’s an amazing cook, guess there’s no need for me to take the kitchen anytime soon.
“You’ve got yourself an amazing boy, Jay” I hear May say and I blush.
“I know, but what’d he do this time?” Jay asks as I see all eyes are on me.
“He was able to save this burnt chicken, and he’s been cooking for all his life! You’ve found yourself a good one, unlike your ex-girlfriend. She was rude, and didn’t know how to do anything. Thank God you broke up with her before-“
“Mom!” Jay interrupts and I let out a small laugh.
Jay turns to me and smiles, before turning back to his mom. “I know, she was horrible. So please do not bring her up, she’s someone I’d like to forget”
We continue eating, and his parents ask me some questions about school and my extracurricular activities.
I was about to answer when Jay beats me to it, “My baby is at the top of the grade, and he’s the best player on the basketball team” Jay says smugly, and I slap his chest lightly.
“I could’ve answered you know, and I’m not the best on the team. I haven’t even started with them yet”
“I know, but I just want to show you off. And don’t lie, you’re definitely the best” he says and I giggle.
“So you’re the one that has better grades than Jayden. He always talked about how impressive you were since everyone at your school is -as he puts it- dumb as a rock” his dad says and I blush, and I see Jay nod.
“Yep, he’s the only guy in the whole grade who can get better grades than me. He’s most definitely going to be chosen as valedictorian” Jay says with pride.
The rest of dinner passes like that, his parents asking me questions and Jay answering for me when he sees an opportunity to show me off.
I go to help with the dishes when Jason stops me. “What do you think you’re doing?” he asks and I look at him confused.
“Doing the dishes..?” I say as I remember when Jay said the exact same thing yesterday.
“Nuh-uh, I forgot that you’re new here. We have people to do that for us, so you can just put that down and let them do their job” he says as he takes the plates from my hands and puts it back on the table.
“Jayden! Come pick up your boyfriend, he was about to do chores!” he says in a disgusted tone, as if I was about to commit a murder.
I hear Jay laugh as he enters the dining room. He grabs my hand and turns around to leave the room when he suddenly stops and turns to look at me.
“Can you make your pancakes tomorrow?” he asks and I nod.
“I just need ingredients” I say as he leads me to the kitchen and opens the fridge and cabinets. My eyes go wide at the amount of food they have.
“Is this enough?” he asks and I look around, seeing all the ingredients needed to make my pancakes.
I nod, “Yeah, this is plenty” I say and he smiles.
He tells the maids that there’s no need to make breakfast tomorrow morning, and they all nod.
“I thought your mom cooked around here?” I ask as he takes my hand and leaves the kitchen.
“She just cooks dinner since she doesn’t have enough time to make breakfast for all of us before work. We always eat our meals together, with the exception of lunch, but she only cooks dinner. The maids make breakfast so that she can sit and eat breakfast with us” he says and I nod.
“Though, I’m sure everyone will want you to start making breakfast more often when they try your pancakes” he says and I laugh.
“Are they really that good?” I ask. I’ve eaten my pancakes for breakfast countless times, but I didn’t think they’re as good as Jay makes them out to be. They are good, just not as godly as Jay seems to think they are.
“Yes! They’re the best thing I’ve ever tasted and I swear I can just live off of them for the rest of my life” he says and I giggle.
We walk into his room, and he pulls me onto his lap as he sits on a beanbag. He turns on a movie and we spend the rest of the night like that, watching a movie and cuddling until we fall asleep.
I have a feeling I won’t be sleeping in my room too often.
