Random Kny One Shots [Requests Closed] I lay my trust in you | {SaneOba}

A+ A-

Theme: Flufffff

Note: Fun fact! I have a headcanon that Sanemi is the only person Obanai intentionally showed his scar to, having trusted him enough to not tell anyone nor run away screaming. Doesn’t matter the AU, as long as they’re friends he probably showed him (headcanon)

I think Shinobu might know about the scar, though, having treated Obanai a lot

“Shinazugawa?”

“Yes?”

The two Hashira stood, side to side, staring off into the horizon. They were on the edge of a cliff, having been walking silently for a while until they’d reached a dead end.

“I trust you.”

“…Thanks?” Sanemi glanced at Obanai, a curious expression plastered on his face. “The hell are you telling me this for?”

Obanai rolled his eyes. “No need to sound angry.”

“I’m not. Just confused.”

“Right.”

Their eyes flicked back to the scenery, watching the sun as it made it’s slow ascend into the sky. It was early morning, both Hashira recently having finished their missions.

“You going to explain, or should I just forget about all of this?” Sanemi asked, after a beat.

“Mhm.” Obanai turned to him. Kaburamaru slipped off of Obanai’s shoulders, entangling himself in the dark locks of the Serpent Hashira’s hair. “I think I can show you now.”

“Show me… what?”

Obanai motioned to his mask. “I trust you,” he repeated.

“Ah.” Sanemi paused. He’d never asked Obanai about the mask, had let him off without saying much about it. “Are you sure?”

“What, will you go out to the world and shout it for everyone to hear?” Obanai asked, raising an eyebrow.

“No.”

“Exactly.”

“I mean, are you comfortable with this. If not, you shouldn’t show me,” Sanemi said, crossing his arms loosely.

“I’m… fine. Are you comfortable, though? Now that I think about it, I should’ve asked you that in the first place,” Obanai said, his hands falling to his side.

Sanemi shook his head. “I’m fine with seeing, as long as you’re fine with it too.”

Obanai nodded. “See, this is why I’m showing you!” he said, almost laughing.

“What?”

“Most people would just immediately… say yes. Not give a fuck about how I feel at the moment.” He sighed. “Anyways. I’ll show you.”

Sanemi nodded, turning his gaze back to where the sun was peeking out from behind the trees somewhere far off in the distance, wanting to give Obanai a bit of space in case he needed it.

Obanai watched Sanemi for a moment before slowly undoing the bandages, letting them fall onto his shoulders. Kaburamaru nudged him lightly, as if to ask if he would be alright. Obanai smiled at him, patting the snake’s head gently, before tapping Sanemi’s shoulder. “You can look now.”

Sanemi turned, his eyes taking in the jagged scar that ran deeply across Obanai jaw. “Can I ask something?” he said.

“…yes,” Obanai mumbled. “No promises I’ll respond, though.”

“Fair enough. Do you cover it because of infection of some sort, or because you dislike anyone seeing?” Sanemi asked, although he assumed it was the latter.

“I just… don’t like people seeing. I hate when people stare and that’d be… kind of unavoidable if I were to not wear my mask,” Obanai said.

“I get that.”

They went quiet for a moment, Sanemi’s eyes tracing Obanai’s scar as he took in the information. Then he quickly turned away, as if realizing something.

“What?” Obanai asked, concerned Sanemi was disgusted or something.

“Sorry. You said you hate when people stare, I wasn’t… exactly helping,” Sanemi apologized, his gaze flicking down.

Obanai could’ve laughed at the irony. Of course Sanemi was worrying about that. No, not of course. It would’ve seemed odd, if it were from the perspective of anyone else. But Obanai had grown used to—and quite fond of—the way Sanemi could be so aggressive and yet so caring and considerate. “It’s fine. I don’t mind if it’s from you,” he assured him.

“Oh, okay.”

“Thank you, though.”

“For what?”

Sanemi turned back to Obanai, tilting his head in question.

“Not… overreacting? Or retreating in disgust or whatever,” Obanai said, a shy smile creeping up his lips.

“Nah, I wouldn’t do that. Not unless you took off that mask and suddenly had the face of Uzui or some shit,” Sanemi said, laughing.

Obanai shook his head. “Fuck off.”

“Nuh uh, I’m not going anywhere,” Sanemi said, stomping a foot down for emphasis.

“Suit yourself.”

Kaburamaru had went back onto Obanai’s shoulders, settling comfortably on the unraveled bandages as if they were a nest. His beady, red eyes were focused on Sanemi, judging him.

“The fuck is your snake looking at me like that?” Sanemi asked, cocking an eyebrow.

Obanai glanced at Kaburamaru who quickly looked away. “What?”

“Nevermind. He really cares for you, no?” Sanemi said, his lips quirking in a smile.

“Mm, well we’ve known each other since I was, like, I don’t know. Seven? He’s lived about a third of his life already, I think. He’s been with me since forever,” Obanai said, lifting a hand to Kaburamaru who slithered down to his arm, resting his head gently on the palm of Obanai’s hand.

Sanemi nodded. “That’s… nice.”

“Mhm. Mind if you, uhm, help me put my bandages back on?” Obanai asked, as Kaburamaru refused to move off his arm.

“Sure,” Sanemi said, moving forward. He took to bandages, lifting Obanai’s hair up with one hand and wrapping it back around the smaller Hashira’s jaw tenderly.

Obanai watched him as he did this, his multi-colored eyes flicking up to Sanemi’s face.

“Done,” Sanemi said.

When he didn’t get any response—verbal nor physical—he waved a hand in front of Obanai’s unfocused eyes.

“You alright?” he asked.

Obanai blinked. “Huh? Yeah, sorry, thanks,” he said quickly, flushing. He turned away from Sanemi, his eyes back on the horizon.

“No problem.”

The sun had risen considerably in the short amount of time, marking about 6-7am now.

“It looks beautiful, no?” Obanai said, talking about the sunrise.

“Mhm…” Sanemi murmured, still facing Obanai. “Beautiful.”
