It was cold. Very cold. Obanai looked outside. The world was draped in blindingly white snow, coating every surface of the land.
“Goddamnit,” he mumbled. “I get cold easily, it’s going to be harder to fight.”Â
Kaburamaru nodded his agreement. He also hated cold, being a reptile and all…
Obanai found a scarf buried somewhere in his estate and wrapped it around Kaburamaru. The snake nuzzled his hand in thanks and the Hashira set out, traipsing through the snow wearily.
As he walked, he came across Mitsuri who was wearing leggings now. She waved as she saw him and she had a bright smile plastered on his face.
“Iguro-San! Iguro-San! It snowed!! Oh, I just love snow!! It’s so cold but you can do so much with it!” She lifted a small snowman she had made, her gloved hands protecting it from falling. “I tried to make you but the hair wouldn’t stick on well so it’s just a snowman.”
Obanai, surprised she’d been thinking of making him, flushed. “Oh, yeah, uhm.” He paused. “Do you want to make a bigger snowman…with me? It’s daytime and it’ll be nice to move around because it’s so cold.”
Mitsuri nodded. “Yes! I’m going to go put on some warmer clothes though… I couldn’t find my earmuffs.”Â
“Alright.”
Obanai waited in the snow, ignoring Kaburamaru who kept poking him teasingly.
When Mitsuri returned, she wore pink fluffy earmuffs and a hat. She held in her hand another hat, a green one this time, and handed it to the Serpent Hashira.Â
“I made this one for you! It took a bit of time in between all the Hashira work, but I wanted to repay you for the socks,” she said, tapping her leg to show where she’d worn the striped green socks on over the leggings.Â
Obanai’s face tinted pink from more than the cold and he quickly put it on. “Oh, thank you! Uhm, I love it, thank you, Kanroji, you didn’t have to,” he stuttered.Â
Mitsuri nodded happily, not catching the way Kaburamaru seemed to snicker at Obanai’s response.Â
“Now, let’s make a snowman!” she said giddily.Â
They started rolling up snow, pushing it together into a sphere and then repeating the process two more times. Once they’d finished, they placed the snowballs on top of each other. They found a couple of branches and pebbles around the place which Mitsuri gently placed on their correct spots. (I was afraid what ppl would say if I just wrote ‘balls’ instead of ‘snowballs’…)
The two stepped back and Mitsuri smiled. “It’s so cute!!” she said.
Obanai nodded vaguely, his gaze on Mitsuri.Â
“Hm?” she said, confused. “Do I have something on my face?”
He quickly caught himself and shook his head. “No! No, I was, uh, thinking,” he lied, flushing and turning to the snowman they’d made. “It looks good, right? Hm?”
Mitsuri tilted her head in confusion. “Are you cold, Iguro-San?” She moved forward and lifted his hands up. “Oh no! They’re red! I’m sorry, I should’ve found some gloves for you too.”
Obanai went to protest but she’d taken off her own gloves and held his hands in her closely, using her breath to warm up his fingers.
He turned red and his voice sputtered out as she fretted about how could he was.Â
After a minute she brought her hand up and lightly touched his cheek. “Well, at least your face is warm,” she commented. “The hat must of done it’s job.”
Obanai nodded wordlessly, not able to say a thing. Kaburamaru looked somehow smug on the Hashira’s shoulder and Mitsuri patted the snake.Â
“Well, let’s go inside now, hm? Iguro-San?” she said, when he didn’t respond.
“Y-yes?” he stuttered, his mind drawing blank.Â
“Are you okay?” Mitsuri’s face creased in worry and she leaned a bit closer to him. “My, your face is quite pink though it’s warm. We really should go inside..”Â
“No, no! It’s okay,” he blurted out, shaking his head quickly.Â
“Really?”
“Well, if you want to go inside you should! We don’t have to if you don’t want to!” he said rapidly, nodding and shaking his head both at once.
“We really should go inside, you don’t seem okay…” She moved closer and kissed his nose lightly. “Hm… When I was sick, my mother used to sometimes do that.” She nodded to herself. “Do kisses help?”Â
Obanai, who had been halfway through saying something, froze suddenly. Blood rushed to his face and he trembled, much less from the cold and more from the fact that Mitsuri had kissed him.Â
“Oh my! I suppose it doesn’t help,” Mitsuri said. “Let’s go inside, I’ll make us some tea with honey and we can warm up. I’ll make a little fire for us.”Â
(i almost wrote tea and biscuits but they’re not british hehe /hj)
Obanai nodded weakly, letting her pull him along.
When he came back to his senses, he found himself sitting on a comfortable chair in front of a small fire with a cup of tea in his hands.Â
Mitsuri smiled at him as he blinked and looked around.
“Are you feeling warmer now, Iguro-San?” she asked. She sat next to him, also with a cup of tea.
He nodded slowly. “Yes…” he murmured. Kaburamaru nuzzled his cheek; he’d been getting a bit worried too.
“I’m glad!” Mitsuri said, sighing gently. “I was getting very worried!”
She turned and looked out the window, a smile playing on her mouth. “Oh, look! Iguro-San, you can see the snowman we made from the window,” she said, giggling.
Obanai moved to look outside and noted the snowman sitting there mindlessly. “Mhm…”Â
Mitsuri nodded. “Yes, yes, maybe we should stick to doing things inside, it’s too cold for you!” she said.Â
“Well, if you want to we can go out.”
“You’re very kind, Iguro-San! But no, we musn’t let you get a cold.” She stood and placed her tea cup down. “We need a strong and well Iguro-San.”
He nodded. “Okay. You’re cute when you’re worried but even more so when you’re happy and if, when I’m well, you’re happy then I will stay well,” he said, not realizing he was saying this aloud until the last second. He blinked and flushed. “I mean-“
Mitsuri’s eyes widened and her cheeks grew pink. “Ehh?? Eh?!” she exclaimed.
