Random Kny One Shots [Requests Closed] Post-death | {RenGiyuu}

A+ A-

Theme: Angst

Note: I’m in the mood for angst rn

So if I wanna be sad then YOU guys have to be sad too 🫢

the RenGiyuu is more slight and this is more so Giyuu being a brother to Senjuro bc they’re both dealing w/ the loss

“Kyojuro Rengoku is dead.”

He didn’t hear anything else. The crow rattled on about what had happened but all Giyuu could think was how Kyojuro was dead.

Kyojuro Rengoku. The man of all smiles and laughter. The man who was always so cheerful and optimistic, the person who had brought mountains of food for his lunch, the Hashira that brought the most happiness to people—dead. Dead.

Kyojuro was gone.

Giyuu looked up and waved the crow away. “Thank you,” he mumbled, turning.

The crow left, perhaps to inform the other Hashira.

Tears pricked at the sides of Giyuu’s vision but he tried ignoring them, walking quickly for a bit before breaking into a run, fighting against the wind. Against the fact that Kyojuro had died.

He slowed down after some time, unsure where he was.

He looked around and noticed a boy with flaming yellow and red hair.

Kyojuro?

His breath caught in his throat and he stepped forward.

The boy looked up.

Senjuro.

Fuck.

Senjuro tilted his head, confused. “Tomioka-San?” he said, putting his broom down against the wall. “Is everything alright?”

No. No, nothing was alright.

Did Senjuro know yet?

Had the crow reached him yet?

Giyuu opened his mouth to respond. He closed it. What if Senjuro didn’t know? He didn’t want to be the one to break the news.

He looked down.

Senjuro stepped forward, putting a comforting hand on the Hashira’s arm. They had met several times before, started writing to each other occasionally. Kyojuro had introduced them when he and Giyuu had started dating. Giyuu had met Shinjuro only once. Wanted to punch him the second he opened his mouth.

Giyuu shook his head. “I…” What was he to say?

Senjuro’s brow creased in worry. “Is it Kyojuro?” he asked.

He didn’t know. Fuck, he didn’t know yet.

There was a flapping of wings overhead. The two glanced up.

Kyojuro’s crow, Giyuu recognized. He’d seen the crow speaking to Kanzaburou sometimes in the past. The familiarity and the remembrance of Kyojuro nearly brought him in tears again and he cursed mentally, trying to bring himself together.

Senjuro stepped towards the crow that landed on the ground, it’s feathers oddly wilted. Like a flower that had lost it’s will to live.

“What happened?” Senjuro asked, kneeling down in front of the crow.

The crow, seemingly unwilling to share the news at first, looked down, its beady black eyes flicking about, attempting to find a way to lighten the information. But there was no way to soften the blow so it gave a soft sigh and looked back up at the boy whose eyes were tensed with worry.

Giyuu stepped back, wanting to give them some space.

“Kyojuro Rengoku,” the crow started, it’s voice quivering slightly, “is dead. He died fighting against Uppermoon three with the company of Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko Kamado, Inosuke Hashibira and Zenitsu Agatsuma. He let out his last breath around sunrise near the Mugen Train’s tracks near a forest. No one…, except him, died.”

Senjuro stared at the bird for a full second, his mind processing everything. Giyuu stood frozen to the side, unsure what he was to do.

“I… Kyojuro?” Senjuro whispered, sitting down—although, collapsing was a better word for it. His arms fell to his lap—previously having been lifting to stroke the bird, only to fall back down in his shock. “What?”

The crow hesitated. “Kyojuro is dead.”

“No, I know, I just… I… I’m sorry.” Senjuro stood suddenly, making the crow jolt back. “I’m sorry,” he repeated. His eyes flicked up to Giyuu whose face painted more emotion than had ever been on it, grief and guilt and sorrow written all over his eyes.

“Did you… know?” Senjuro asked quietly. “Is that why you didn’t say anything?”

Giyuu averted his eyes as he nodded, muttering his own apology.

Senjuro shook his head. “No. It’s… fine,” he said, his voice coming out tight and scared.

Giyuu went to step back, unsure if he should stay, but Senjuro ran forward suddenly, throwing his arms around the Hashira as he bit back tears.

Giyuu’s arms wrapped around the boy’s small structure awkwardly, hesitantly.

A sob broke out from Senjuro, coming out choked as if he was fighting it back.

Giyuu patted him gently. “Do you want to go inside?” he asked quietly, figuring it would be best to not attract attention from other people.

Senjuro nodded against Giyuu’s haori and the Hashira led the two inside, the crow hovering behind them as they walked.

The door closed and another opened almost right after.

“What’s all this racket?” a voice shouted, though he was making more noise than anyone else.

Shinjuro stalked forward and took in the sight of Senjuro crying, clinging onto Giyuu whose expression flitted from worry and sorrow over Senjuro and Kyojuro to fury at Shinjuro who had no right to shout about anything to Senjuro.

“I’m sorry, father,” Senjuro mumbled.

Giyuu went to say something but the crow—who had flown in before the door had closed—spoke up, it’s voice loud and interrupting as if it was similarly angry with Shinjuro.

“Kyojuro Rengoku has died this morning fighting Uppermoon three. He was accompanied by-“

The crow was cut off by Shinjuro who glared at it, snapping, “I don’t care. Senjuro, this place is a mess. Clean it. And stop crying.”

Taken aback, everyone stared at him for a minute.

Shinjuro grumbled and turned away, muttering something about idiocy.

“Did he… hear me?” the crow asked uncertainly after a beat of silence once Shinjuro had left.

Senjuro looked down. “I’ll tell him again later,” he said quietly. “You can… rest now. Do you want me to get you some food?”

Giyuu stared at the boy who looked so much like a mini version of Shinjuro but was the complete opposite. Senjuro and Kyojuro were both similarly kind and selfless as fuck, never thinking much about themself until everyone else had been attended to. It had been a feature of Kyojuro’s that Giyuu had always admired, been jealous of even.

He felt a pang of sadness hit him and he quickly turned his attention to Senjuro who was trying to convince the crow to let him care for it.

“I’m okay! I just need water! I can get water myself,” the crow insisted.

“No, I want to help you,” Senjuro said.

“You have enough to work with!!”

“It’s okay! It’s not that much to do!”

Giyuu sighed and placed a hand on Senjuro’s shoulder. “I can take care of the crow. You can rest.”

Senjuro pouted. “I’m… not tired,” he said, rubbing his eyes quickly. They were red from crying and it looked like he still was on the verge of breaking down.

“Go to your room, I can make sure your father knows. I’ll check on you before I go, alright?” Giyuu said. He felt responsible for Senjuro now, given that Shinjuro was a shit father and Kyojuro, who had done a wonderful job raising Senjuro before, was…

He couldn’t bring himself to think it, so he ushered Senjuro away.

He quickly filled a cup with water and placed it on the floor for the crow to drink out of.

As he waited, he stared at the wall, his mind racing. Fuck, he wished he could turn back the time be he couldn’t. He needed to care for Senjuro and… himself, too.

Kyojuro had mostly been the one looking out for both Senjuro and Giyuu.

Giyuu hadn’t really given enough time for himself, especially for his mental health. Mostly just tunnelled through the days, hoping he got through it well enough. Kyojuro had made him rest more, relax, have fun.

But how was he supposed to do that now?

He rubbed his eyes, wishing he could rub out his emotions so he would just not feel anymore.

He stood, taking the cup once the crow had finished.

“Will you be alright?” he asked it.

The bird nodded, fluttering about. “Take care of Senjuro,” it said, turning and flying out a window.

Giyuu stared after it, the cup in his hand. “I’ll do my best.”

×××

Silly deleted thing I wrote:

“How… did he die?” Senjuro asked quietly, blinking furiously.

The crow looked up at him. “He was… hit in the solar plexus. Right around… here,” he said, pecking Senjuro’s stomach.

“Ow-“
