I couldn’t believe that I almost lost him, he was my world and yet I almost lost him, I knew I should’ve kept him by my side ever since the killing of the couple, but I understood that even if he was my mate, he still needed his freedom, he still needed to do the things he love, so I let him be, and sent someone to guard him, that was a rational part of my plan and I would always be grateful to Koda for what he had done for me.
How would you repay a man who had saved your entire world, I surely had no idea and therefore only my actions and words would suffice, if ever he needed me I wouldn’t fail him. I walked up to our bedroom where Matty was asleep, the doctor had sedated him, stitched his arm and made sure he wasn’t infected by anything, when we got home our parents were there and dad wasn’t exactly in control of his emotions, even if Matty was the second oldest to the whole family he was the last born, he would always remain the baby, so dad didn’t take it all that great seeing his wounds.
“He’s going to be fine.” Papa reassured dad who he held close to him sitting on the bed, beside Matty who was asleep, the sleeping pills would work till morning so that the healing wasn’t interrupted. I sighed and moved to sit opposite my parents. “You did good.” Papa commented but I felt as if I hadn’t done enough to make sure my mate was okay. “If you hadn’t killed the rogues surrounding him and the ones chasing him, he wouldn’t be here or escaped, with Koda, so you did do your part in saving him.” Dad asserted as he moved from Matty’s side to me and caressed my cheek.
“Im proud of the alpha you’ve become, you protected your mate, and now you’re protecting the pack and that to me is only the smallest of things that make me proud of you, it’s not the achievements baby, it’s just you as a person, and how you’ve grown, that’s what I’m most proud of, you don’t waver and you never back down.” He exclaimed placing a kiss on my cheek and I hugged him back, I loved my parents, they were everything to me and I wasn’t an alpha to them, I was just their overgrown mischievous child. “Thanks dad.” I mumbled in return after we let go.
“Your dad needs to get some sleep, and I’m sure you do too, so we’ll use our room, Ralliel is in the bedroom downstairs and Xander is over at Alexis’s house, those two need time to talk since everything that happened.” Papa explained as he led his pregnant mate out of the bedroom, I nodded to him and made my way downstairs just after looking at Matty one more time to make sure he was okay. When I got to the lounge Ralliel was in shorts and barely anything else, wolf tendencies, in his arms was baby Alvares, Alexis was in the kitchen and Xander was helping him.
“He’s gonna be alright?” Ralliel questioned and I nodded, only a few people who were close to the Everlins could notice the difference between Ralliel and Luciano, they were identical in every aspect, they even had the same birth mark. I flopped down next to the alpha of the Ryeland Pack and immediately he had laid his head on my lap with baby Alvares still in his arms, blissfully asleep. “I miss this.” He mumbled with a sigh as Xander snickered and sat on the opposite couch.
“How are the kids?” I questioned and he groaned. “What happened?” I asserted and he laid himself on the couch with a heavy sigh. “I didn’t come here to just check on Lexi, taking care of the kids on my own is just taxing along with taking care of the pack, I’ve become overwhelmed by everything.” He confessed honestly and I wondered if this had something to do with his mate disappearing then turning up dead the next morning.
“Youve been handling it fine for some years now, what’s really going on?” Ralliel mumbled as he sat up and looked at Xander, this wasn’t just about him being overwhelmed. “I miss my mate and being around my family and a pack with happily mated couple is killing me, I moved on and physically I’m fine, I just miss Val.” He replied whilst Alexis came into the lounge with plates filled with cake, then ice cream on the side, definitely comfort food.
“Im sorry I left you to deal with everything alone.” Alexis exclaimed as he sat next to his brother but Xander shook his head in refusal. “With what happened, if I were you I would have left a long time ago, it just pissed me off that I wasn’t there to share the burden with you and to beat our brother into a pulp.” The alpha replied his brother and the two nodded to each other, Shadow Creek Pack, one of the largest packs because it was originally two packs which merged into one was calm and peaceful for its members, but every pack has it’s darkness and the alpha families definitely had darkness.
Val died, left Xander to take care of their kids, Marquis cheated on his mate and impregnated another wolf, Alexis ran to us in hopes to find peace which meant he had rejected his mate the beta, how truly heart breaking for all of them. “You could always bring them here.” I suggested and Xander turned to look at me quizically. “Or we come help.” Ralliel added as he took Xander’s hand. “Just like we’re doing right now with Savage, we’ll help him and when everything is fine I will go back with you or Savage does whichever way and we help you, that’s what friends are for.” Ralliel explained and Xander nodded gratefully.
“How is Koda, Alexis?” I questioned and the wolf in question blushed, I see. “Thats a very interesting development.” Ralliel mumbled as he looked at Lexi mischievously. “Its still in the early stages, we went on a couple of dates and yeah he’s fine, he’s exhausted but fine.” Alexis replied with his cheeks tinted red. “Ofcourse he would be exhausted and also are you sure it’s a good idea dating a single wolf, what if he has a mate.” Xander interjected and Lexi shook his head in refusal. “He doesn’t have one, she died two years ago.” I replied for Alexis, she was indeed a lovely person but her mind wasn’t stable and when she finally succumbed to lunacy dad said it was better to save her the misery of killing herself.
“Alright then, just looking out for you little brother.” Xander conceded with a smile and Lexi nodded back, we ate the rest of the comfort food in comfortable silence until Alvares started wailing and Alexis had to go home and make his bottle since he forgot his baby bag. It was just the three of us now. “I never got to congratulate you Reece, I’m glad you’re with Theo.” Xander announced and I smirked proudly. “Yeah man, I mean really great looking couple.” Rallie added making me chuckle, I had missed hanging out with both of them and forgetting we were actually alphas with packs.
“So what do we do with this rogue problem, which I’m glad I came here in the midst of too, I really missed killing.” Rallie mumbled with a look that not many knew, he was still a wolf and peaceful times didn’t exactly have blood baths and having one now, he was already craving it, I for one was also. “We can plan everything in the morning, with the pack territory already secured and all the wolves safe, we just need to prepare for a fight, flush them out and kill them mercilessly.” I explained and it was good enough for them, so the rest of the night, I knew all we needed to do was rest and find solace in relieving each other of our burdens.
Like the old days.
